Some aggrieved top officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA are poised to fight dirty with the FCT minister’s wife, his sister and the ministry’s Director of Finance and Administration over a N100 million gift to wife of Nigerian President, Dame Patience Jonathan.

According to two aggrieved officials of the FCT ministry who spoke with ireports-ng.com in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja today, on the condition of anonymity for fear of being sacked, the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed had soon after his appointment as minister by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2010 authorised the payment of N100 million to the first lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan. The payment, it was learnt, must be made in cash.

Suspicious of the implication of obeying such ministerial order, some officials were said to have refused to implement the directive. A few of them critical to how the money will be moved out of the treasury were later said to have been promised some percentage of the sum, after which the money was processed and transferred into the personal bank account of the Minister’s sister, Mrs Hafsat Saidu Mazila who lives and works with the minister.

The FCTA officials who were part of the team promised “some percentage of the deal” which they never got over a year after, the N100 million was moved at once to Hafsat’s account number 0186110000194749 with Intercontinental Bank branch in Cadastral zone, Wuse 11, Abuja on October 7, 2010, the same day the necessary documents and vouchers were prepared.

According to one of the officials, “because God knows their intention to use us to steal the money, the fund movement started having problems when for almost a week, Hafsat could not withdraw the money from her account because the bank refused to release that huge sum of money moving from a government account to an individual’s account who wants to withdraw it all at once. It was at that point that the minister directed that the money should be returned to the FCTA account. The money was eventually returned to the FCTA account number 0005001000030446.”

The sources revealed that soon after the money was returned to the FCTA treasury,”it was then decided between the minister and the Director of Finance to take it out again through the personal account of DFA who was able to manipulate the bank process to withdraw the money which he later delivered in cash to the minister’s wife, Mrs Bala Mohammed for onward transfer to the first lady.”

The FCTA officials are however miffed and determined to spill the beans “because we felt used and cheated almost one year after the deal was done and none of us even knows how much was eventually delivered to the first lady.”
