Many of you who have negative view about Gaddafi? Let me ask you this: If he was a dictator and reportedly stole billions of dollars as they claim he did, why would he sacrifice his life? He would have taken the ease way out, take all the money and fly to Zimbabwe, Venezuela or neighboring Niger and enjoy his life. But instead, because he knew these people he was fighting with and chose to die for his country.  Don't forget 3 of his sons died also. Why would these young men with estimated billions of dollars under their belts want to die for country/father? They too, especially young men like them with many more years to enjoy in this world,  would have chosen to fled like their brothers to Algeria or Niger and enjoy. However, when you know the enemy you are dealing with and understand that they don't give a damn about you or your people, its better you die. However, If you choose to live, they are coming after you.

Gaddaffi was a hero velo2011 and danka7777 are right.Gaddaffi wanted to unite Africa under one against the imperialists. He wanted the single African language, African currency, African monetary fund, and African central bank. In December 2010 the EU tried to invest in the AMF and the AU declined and 3 months later there is a war in Libya. I guess he wasn't secret enough. The entire revolution was staged by America to get rid of people they didn't like and ultimate get Gaddaffi. They froze billions that were going to be used to unite Africa but the imperialists don't want that. And Obama who has a kenyan father is trying to replunder Africa.

The South Americans united and now their economies are BOOMING and America won't mess with them. Middle East are rising up and the Occupy Nigeria movement was a good start but there needs to be a true revolution in most African countries (besides Zimbabwe) in order for it to work. Most of the African leaders serve foreign interests. Africa would have to unite with a military power to be saved. Most Africans don't even kow this sadly.

Yeah you're right. The voice of the people should dictate a nation not the voice of a person or his family. However, in Libya's scenario the situation was different.

1. The people who you saw on the streets were those who weren't from his tribe and from the East with many histories of rebellion against Gaddafi. Those were the people from Benghazi, Misrata and some parts of Tripoli. Else from these cities, the rest were forcefully coaxed into refusing to support Gaddafi especially with the onset of the NATO bombings. Sirte (Gaddafi's hometown) and Bani walid, which stood with the Gaddafi government to the end were seriously pounded with NATO bombs and NTC artillery as a punishment. So you're right about it being the people, but it wasn't the voice of majority of the people. Please search youtube and input "rally for gaddafi" and you'll be amazed with the support he had.

2. Gaddafi was stubborn yes, but he knew it was a foreign conspiracy. Quitting power then would cause a lot of unrest like it has already done and sell Libyan oil cheap to the West. Libya would no longer be controlled by Libyans but by western powers who come with the facade of "giving them freedom"

The citizen sold their country finally. Gaddafi is no more there to protect the country from the external forces Vampires what a shame. But this is the time for Nigerian government to interven to avoid violence spread over North Africa Libya is just a stone throw to Nigeria. Nigeria will be attacked in the name of "humanitarian aid" and they will bomb the north and steal oil. They want Nigeria to disintegrate so it is easier to control. They also want to kick the Chinese out like in Sudan and Libya. Then they will steal oil. As soon as Goodluck starts to find vision and goes his own way then America will attack.
