chrisley024: One-on-one with Neuer? that was what ruined welbeck's career. i was told by fredthered that it was that moment fergie lost hope completely in welbeck's progress & was earmarked as one of the players to be sold..... before the game, united's analysts had studied neuer for hours & they noticed the average position of neuer in most games is outside the box. they instructed welbeck that a chance might come where he would be one v one with neuer & he must shoot low to get the better of him. they recreated different scenes at carrington. they worked at it for several days telling welbeck which side of neuer he must shoot when the chance comes. lo & behold, that chance came at old trafford. welbeck ignored the instructions he was tutored for several days & opted to chip neuer instead. united crashed out & welbeck's stock dipped. |

Four minutes video on all Welbeck 13 goals and 1 assists last season for club and country. He chip the goalkeeper for about four od the goals. Three of his goals for Man United came from a through ball by Rooney which set him one-on-one with the goalkeeper. I think he is good at converting big chances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thu8MA8ctYw |

chrisley024: One-on-one with Neuer? You can't get it right all the time. When I checked last season, he was doing 85% conversion of his clear cut chances in the EPL. There was no one close to him. Suarez was around 55%. |

chrisley024: So he becomes useless when one-on-one doesn't show? That's his problem. But if he plays for Liverpool where one-on-one is much, he would score 20 goals at least. |

Dadehmola: That Welbeck is far better than what you paint on this thread. Last season he scored almost every time he was used as the number 9. If he had been trained as a 9 all these while, he would by far be a better finisher. |

elampiro: ......only to dump us out of the champions league with that 1diotic chip - a testament to the moronic decision making he has always been synonymous with all these years. Aside the slight improvement we saw in his GS record last season( after registering 2 goals in 40 appearances the previous season ), his overall game play wasnt better than that of jozy altidore, bobby zamora and the likes. elampiro: how could he have been trained as a 9 when he was more interested in galloping up and down the flanks like a castrated mule? baba, if you like welbeck reach that level, you fit port go arsenal. its not too late |

Dadehmola: * in 2012/13, Welbeck scored in Madrid and RVP missed chances in Santiago Bernabue and Old Trafford to bury the match completely. * Welbeck missed a chip last season but Rooney also missed one or two chances in Allianz Arena. Why is it it's only Welbeck's own that lingers in your memory? * In 2012/13, if Welbeck wasn't so important for us, why did SAF play him through out the season and we won the league? His work rate must have compensated for RVP/Kagawa/Chicha poor work rate. If you played football, you would understand how important some players are. * In 2011/12, Welbeck first real season, his goals return was cool. It was only when Welbeck started playing with RVP that he became goals shy. That's because RVP always wants to be in the box, so others drift far to hunt for him. |

Brisingr: * How can they create many chances when Sturridge is away. * How can their chances be much when Balotelli himself has no good build up play? At Man City he had people working for him. Then he muscles himself for the kill. |

Sub-standard Chicharito no rival for Madrid match-winner Benzema Oct 1, 2014 22:15:00 The Mexican was given a chance to impress by coach Carlo Ancelotti, but looked lost for long periods and Real improved immensely after he was replaced by the Frenchman By Ben Hayward | Spanish Football Writer Carlo Ancelotti was true to his word. The Italian coach claimed in August that there would be rotation in 2014-15 - and that all of Real Madrid's players would receive opportunities in the starting XI this season. But Chicharito's chance came and went with a whimper on Wednesday. The Mexican striker started up front alongside Cristiano Ronaldo away at Ludogorets in Sofia, with Isco and Asier Illarramendi included as well in a 4-4-2 formation which featured Gareth Bale as an orthodox right winger. So prolific in their last few games, hitting 20 goals in their previous four fixtures, Madrid played poorly in this one and never really found their rhythm until right at the end. Ludogorets proved a tougher nut to crack then many had anticipated - just as the Bulgarian side had done in the first round of matches against Liverpool - and the home team went ahead early on as Madrid once again failed to deal with a set piece. Javier Hernandez then won a penalty at the other end in what was his only meaningful contribution of the entire evening. But Ronaldo saw his spot-kick saved by Vladislav Stoyanov and the local fans could not believe what they were witnessing. Ronaldo also saw a strike ruled out incorrectly for offside and then looked for - and got - another penalty with a blatant dive which followed a neat turn in the area. Against a side considered perhaps the weakest in the entire competition, the European champions had reverted to desperate measures. Ronaldo scored this time, but Stoyanov guessed right and was close to a second save. With that goal, the Portuguese moved to 69 strikes in the Champions League, now just two behind Raul's record of 71. Cristiano was invariably involved in Madrid's best work after that and saw a second-half shot cleared off the line. But Chicharito was largely lost, attempting just 10 passes in his 67 minutes, completing a mere five and never looking like a real goal threat with only one shot on target. Ancelotti had seen enough and sent on Benzema in his place. "I wanted to give Karim a rest because he has played a lot up until now," the Italian said afterwards. "Chicharito played well. He didn't score, but his game was good." Following the change, however, Madrid improved immediately as the Frenchman linked up with his fellow forwards and scored what turned out to be the winner as he found space to fire home from close range. It was his 38th Champions League goal in his 66th appearance in the competition. Only Ruud van Nistelrooy (45 games) and Lionel Messi (59) reached that mark in fewer matches. But Benzema does so much more than that and the former Lyon man later set up substitute Toni Kroos for a fantastic chance which the German blasted over the bar. Chicharito offers none of that and rarely creates for others. It was a sub-standard showing from the Mexican and his performance proved he is better off on the bench, coming on as a late substitute when defences are already tired. For all his hard work and good will, Hernandez highlighted what many already suspected - that he'll never be the first-choice centre-forward at Real Madrid. http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2014/10/01/5148641/sub-standard-chicharito-no-rival-for-madrid-match-winner?CMPID=FBINT_141001_RealEd |

The above writer said Chicha completed only 5 of his attempted 10 passes in 67 mins. * This has always been the problem with Chicha, if he is not scoring he is not part of the game and becomes minus one. He also does not do well when started. He's better off a super sub when a goal is desperately needed and he stays in the box, everyone else pushes forward to throw plenty balls into the box to find Chicha. * How can one make only 5 successful passes in star studded Real Madrid? Dadehmola, you see the difference? Welbeck had plenty passes, he had 5 dribbles, he had a tackle, he won aerial duels. Even if Welbeck didn't score yesterday, he already did well. This was why SAF preferred him, and any coach in his right senses would. Gaal didn't even want to sell him outrightly but Welbeck decided he needed to go. |

SIRcumalot: Am happy for Welbeck, let him develop at Arsenal and if he becomes a 30 goal a season striker, I don't see him developing into that. His ability on 'half chances' is weak. But in football never say never. * But I love his overall play in the build up process. Immediately he got injured in the preseason, we were no longer dominant. If he started our season, we wouldn't have lost to Swansea. 4 Likes |
