No real wise person or right thinking person comes to a funeral and start throwing insults and blames on the dead no matter what circumstances sorounding his death, think about the relatives.

Sunday Badung died a fool's death
I know that's hard to say but that's the truth
How can you handle an explosive device with your bare hands?
Dumb and dumber

I wanted to say something similar, Theirs a reason we have anti bomd squad and specialist, why would you attempt to deactivate a bomb with your bare hands! am sorry that is not bravery more looney to me! what now? what would happen when they discover the next device? do you honestly think anyone would go within a 100 yards of it? I saw the video this morning, it sent shivers down my spine,

National Hero or National fool, (am sorry it may sound harsh)

The fact remains their procedures to take when dis-arming a bomb! you dont just walk up as if its a box of chocolate! they are procedures,

if Nigerian police havent got the robot or device, The US Army are based all over the world, its one phone call it would take, a Stealth plane from the Middle east would reach Nigeria in less than 2hrs

Paying Tribute to someone who committed suicide? You must be freaking kidding dude
Re: PAY YOUR TRIBUTE TO SERGENT SUNDAY BADUNG by Ganjafama(m): 4:06pm On Feb 17, 2012
The Nigerian police force killed this man. he wasn't trained in handling bombs (i doubt if NPF trains anyway) .I know because as a sergeant in the force one is more or less a messenger. The real people to handle bombs should be engineers who must have gone through scientific training to be able to know chemicals and bomb devices by sight and smell. I doubt if this man had even an OND. This should be an eye-opener to the NPF to go scientific.

To answer your question a  B-2 stealth bomber flyer goes at the speed of 1604 mph, which make New York to London in just a little over 2hrs

He was a victim of nigeria systematic waywardness. Same waywardness that makes the police to waylay,harrass and extort innocent citizens with impunity is what made him to walk up to suspected bomb package like a spiderman. Same waywardness that makes nigerian government officials to cause tragic road accidents in the name of tax collections,revenues that they will eventually share ammg themselves and their superiours is what killed him.

I remember reading somewhere that the B-2 Bomber isnt supersonic. Haba, the distance between Nigeria and S. Arabia in the Middle East is slightly over 4200 kms. There is no plane in existence that can cover that distance in less than 2 hours, not even Roger Ramjet's!

After watching the video one feels a sense of deep sadness that a SERGEANT in the Police force would make such an elementary and disastrous error of judgement. But what gives me the shivers are people actually gathering round taking pics of the gory sight with their phones, he's colleagues don't even put a blanket over his dismembered body. Scarier still is the fact that the bombers could have actually being among the crowd watching as he took those disastrous steps towards d bomb. IG pls get ur men properly trained you have admitted that training facilities of NPF are woefully inadequate.

Sad to see a fellow human blow up like a piece of rubbish.
If he never went there, probably another would have died.
Sad to see how ill equiped our police is .
Sad to know your family is there mourning.
I saw a bold walking guy and the next second he was no more.
God , please have mercy on his soul.
Help us come out of this time.
Touch the soul of the heartless and restore our hope and safety.

Badang, some say you were stupid, some say you were naive while some say you were bold.
Whatever we all say, I think I respect you and I really wish it never happened.
May the Almighty permit you a joyful experience in the beyond.
You did not deserve this neither did your family and friends deserve to lose you.
Bye.

Sgt Badang was a great man. Pple raining insults on him are being insensitive. The confidence with which he approached the bomb was evidence that he had been doing the risky business before now. In the force u take orders and do Ɣ☺ΰ‎‎r job. If u are to rain insults or blame anyone then blame the FG for not providing state of the art equipment to tackle this menace, despite the huge budget on security NPF defuses bombs with bare hands and ₪☺ protection (fact). Bear also in mind that the bomb was remotely detonated, do not assume it was his touch that detonated it as someone placed it in the said location. My only prayer is for this video to get to the relevant qtrs and the govt takes proactive steps to stop a reoccurence else his death wld be in vain.
May his soul rest in peace.

RIP Sergeant !!!

For all taking an all out swipe at the sergeant, I think you are a bit unfair and idealistic.

It is no gain saying that many bombs have been defused in similar fashion by Nigerian police men in time past. Is it the right thing to do? No. Was the protective gadget available and he refused to put it on? No.

What he had done is similar to how many policemen with inferior fire power have face armed robbery gangs with superior fire power and many times saved the day !.

O ye people where is your empathy?

What that, probably, video doesn't show:
- The policeman volunteering when others refused;
- The policeman checking tens of other similar bags that turned out to be bags of rice etc;
- The policeman's oga giving him instructions;
- Pictures of his loved ones and dependants mourning him and contemplating life without him; and
- The policeman being briefed that he could use his "metal detecting wand" to check if a package is a bomb or not.

This man has given up his life so others may live. A high price to pay and deserving of respect and sober reflection.

If we feel he was 1) rash; 2) inadequately trained; and 3) poorl equipped, let's take it up with the Authorities.

I pray should any of us have to make that difficult decision, others may at least appreciate the sacrifice made and work together.

Re: PAY YOUR TRIBUTE TO SERGENT SUNDAY BADUNG by DuduNegro: 1:29am On Feb 18, 2012
Here is what an ill-equipped but reasonable person in similar condition and faced with same circumstance would have done. . . . .  aim your gun at the package and shoot it.  If it's not a bomb, it does not explode and since no human is in it, the bullet does not cause casualty.  A bag of rice might get a hole and start leaking but there is remedy for the hole.

If its a bomb, the bullet will set it off and successfully detonate it at a safe distance.

If everything else fails, I hear rats infested Lagos secretariat. . . . get the bastards trained to sniff bombs.   They get cheeze for productive work, not for free.  If a rat trips and his a_ss sets a live bomb off, then humans learn from his mistake and know not to approach a suspecting bag without first bribing a cheeze addicted rat to inspect it.  Get smart guys. . . .  tell IG of police I can import rats for him if he prefers yankee trained ones,  . they come with sophistication that their Naija counterparts lack. shyyt!!

Your planned action only looks reasonable with the benefit of hindsight.

When you see a bomb, you dont detonate it, you defuse it.   Shooting at the package is crude, No point creating a huge crater along the road and causing scare and panic if truly it is a bomb package,

The sergeant ought to have gone with the right protective equipments , that he failed to do, or better still robots could have been deployed, no need spewing rubbish on the  late soul and calling him names, because he didn't protect himself as he ought to.  His motive was clear and well intentioned.

Many of his colleagues have tried defusing bombs in the same way, and "fortunately" succesful
Re: PAY YOUR TRIBUTE TO SERGENT SUNDAY BADUNG by ACM10: 3:17am On Feb 18, 2012
After all said and done. The action of Sgt. Badung is idiotic. He's probably one of these poorly educated men that got recruited into the police. An educated man should atleast think before approaching the package. Can u see the confidence he exhumes as he was approaching the package as if he's the one that kept it. He is a poster child of what we suffer in Nigeria in the hands of the police. When these people who thinks with their cauda equina are armed with Ak47 and Kalashnikovs, what will become of ordinary citizens. Methinks that police is a danger to the Nigerian society. Government is deliberately swelling the ranks of police with these poorly educated or educated-illiterates, because they can be easily manipulated. They displays robotic obedience too. Why wont they, since they hardly understands the implications of their action.

Last 3 yrs when I was driving down from Nsukka to Enugu, I met a mopol officer who used to be a marijuana addict and a known petty criminal at one of the check-points. You need to see the enthusiasm with which he was brandishing his AK47. I was like "how on earth did any right thinking man arm this dude"? I suggest that police should swell their ranks with educated graduates and not 3 credits O'level holders. An educated graduate will on the very least understand the implication of approaching a suspicious package in a terrorist hotbeds.
