Fulani invasion: Death toll rises to 43

From ROSE EJEMBI, Makurdi
Thursday, March 08, 2012
Death toll in the early Sunday invasion of Tiv settlements in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State by armed Fulani herdsmen has now been put at 43, even as 15 villages were sacked.

This is just as the people of the area have called on the state and Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency set up an independent judicial commission of enquiry to investigate the killings with a view to identify and bring the culprits to justice.

Addressing newsmen yesterday at the NUJ House in Makurdi, indigenes of Gwer West, at the end of their meeting, lamented the incessant invasion and gruesome murder of their people by Fulani herdsmen.
In a communique signed by the President and Secretary of Tyoshin Youth Association, Joseph Mom and Dr. Joseph Kerker, the indigenes expressed shock over the scale of destruction of lives and property by the Fulani invaders without any provocation.

They disclosed further that thousands of people had been displaced and were taking refuge in various locations while foodstuff worth millions of naira were also destroyed in the melee. Armed with some gory pictures of those who were gruesomely killed during the invasion, Mom said: “We consider this as a cruel and barbaric act, since we do not share any boundaries with these invaders.”

Mom, who was supported by the council chairman of the local government, Andrew Ayande and some prominent elders in the area, maintained that the Gwer West FADAMA area by the south bank of River Benue was the higest source of agriculture and economic activity of the people of the area especially for rice production and other cereals thus rendering the area highly unconducive for grazing activities.

“We are concerned that despite the effort by the state, local government and security agencies, the invaders have displayed superior military capabilities to overcome and overwhelm our communities.”

In another thread, I said that Fulani invasion is a form of scoping insurrection whereby these fulanis are conducting DETAILED MILITARY operations to mark their future territories.
Anyone caught sleeping by these stratagems will be sorry.

Fulanis own all the lands in Nigeria, including the land in Gowon's hometown in Plateau state. They have a right to kill and pillage as they like, isn't it what thet civil war was all about?

My main concern is this quote:

“We are concerned that despite the effort by the state, local government and security agencies, the invaders have displayed superior military capabilities to overcome and overwhelm our communities.

Basically, I have concluded that, either these are regular military men from the Nigerian army, which would make this very troubling, OR these may be TRAINED insurgents, which is even more troubling. Either way, my MAIN concern is that other groups in Nigeria may be sleeping and chanting one Nigeria, while a precipitous escalation (triggered by anyone) could lead to a new form of OPEN internal colonization in Nigeria. Ndigbo, it is time we start meeting with our SS neighbors to devise a reliable counter measure.

^^
Your are right, the thing about Fulani's tribes they are mostly nomads and the thing about nomad is that because of their nature of moving from one place to another they use the advantage to conquer their neighboring  towns and villages; they come on announced and attack and they can quickly retreat back and attack again that's their advantage, only way to check mate them is by air you can pin point their hidden place easily and the military are not using that advantage is very dicey, this is just common knowledge beacuse fulanis still use an ancient  tactics which was initiated  by Osman Dan fodio  angry

Why are southerners so naïve about Nigeria and what it represents? Nigeria is a funny entity for goodness sake. The Fulani, Hausa and Kanuri have known for a long time Nigeria is a practical joke and had behaved to form. They have deceived all the ethnic groups in Nigeria to believe Igbo were the dangerous breed and were very much out to dominate others. My headache is Ndigbo seemed to have fallen into the slumber trap and have forgotten that internal vigilant is solution to deceptive foreign aggressor.

Seven years ago, I read a detailed essay by Col Umar in which he warned the people of southern Kaduna, Middle Belt and other southerners to look out for future incidences of incursion in their territories by certain elements in Nigeria. It is absolutely funny to see southerners label these raids as handiwork of Fulani herdsmen. These so-called unprovoked raids are litmus tests to check the resilience of certain group of people. What is happening is well-coordinated scheme with a pattern and path. Atlantic Ocean is the destination of this ominous scheme.

Ndigbo must, as a matter of urgency, developed tactics for ruthless pre-emptive measures to stale the southward schemes in disguise as isolated Fulani herdsmen attacks. States in Igbo land must decreed all cattle destined to markets states Igbo land must be transported. Anybody who did not heel to the law must be an unfortunate road kill.
