Jakumo: Anyone driving a civilian status symbol Hummer SUV in a Third World country such as Nigeria should not expect pity from the vast majority of bystanders in the event of a car-jacking. Even if the Hummer happened to have been purchased at a bargain price off a used car lot in Dallas before being shipped to Nigeria, it becomes, on reaching African soil, a vulgar status symbol signifying conspicuous consumption amid the squalor of abject poverty.

A Hummer reeks of BIG money, making it natural prey for prowling road-pirates on the lookout for that big score. The kidnapping of a politician’s wife described in this report is a natural consequence of the instant monetary VALUE that gets assigned to all passengers conveyed inside high-end vehicles that get commandeered, be that on the mean streets of Mexico City, Bogota, Colombia, or Lagos, Nigeria.

By showing off a Hummer on the roads of Nigeria, the person being chauffeured is saying a sneering "phuck you" to the starving hordes gawking outside that air-conditioned cocoon of decadent luxury. That rich person is telling the huddled poor to eat cake instead of going hungry, if their anguish is about bread shortages, but most importantly, Hummer owners immediately identify themselves as members of Nigeria's looting political class, whose embezzlement careers DIRECTLY cause the medieval deprivation and suffering around them.

And yet, even in the face of the perils they attract by ostentatious living, Nigeria's idle rich simply cannot resist the temptation to show off before the poor, while maybe tossing them a few coins, before resorting to pleading and prayer when they do inevitably fall victim to the Universal Laws of Karma, as exemplified by this press report.

Jakumo you forgot yahoyahoo, drug pushers and contractivs hummer, hummer no be new thing for naija. Dem de buy brand new cars ooh sometimes dem no go remove the polythene for like two weeks, so that you go know say na tire leather.

pDude: From all these, it is clear that Nigerian leaders haven't learnt a single thing from history. Ask the Boers of South Africa and they will tell you a bit about the backlash effects of oppressing the citizens for too long.

So she was cruising a hummer jeep eh? Good! In the midst of poverty and pain, public servants are cruising around in powerful automobile with prices that can cater for thousands of hungry mouths for many months. sad how sad.

Well, Nigerian leaders have laid their beds for decades and should now prepare to lie upon the thorns they have sown into the bedding. The fractures which have been appearing in the fabrics of this nation have now become gaping holes of destruction.

Nigerian leaders can't even cruise around safely in the bullet-proof hummer jeeps they invested so much in.

Things have finally fallen apart. sad

GBAM!

Am surprise at how happy people are supporting crime.Everybody can not be reach.you can ride a hummer too if you work hard. There are so many people that have worked their way to the top.some of us appear to have given up on life and. Used every opportunity to bashed the rich.Even in developed countries where we assumed standard of life is perfect, politicians still live in oppulance.let's channel our energy towards working hard instead of playing the blame it on them card.

Thats good.

Looking at the response of people on this forum it is obvious that we have alot of failed people on Nairaland.
People openly supporting violence and crime against the wife of a senator, just because they are wealthy.

Kidnapers are no body's friend. I know a married woman who was kidnapped on this same route 3 weeks ago. She has nothing to do with politics, she was driving a kia, a cheap car for that matter, yet she was kidnapped with her 2 kids, she was raped, made to sleep among dead people in the bush, she was made to lie on graves of other victims who died from the torture they recieved on being kidnapped and she was severely beaten.

She passed through all these horror for no fault of hers, yet idiots are coming online to encourage these kidnappers. For those of you that are happy at the kidnap of other peoples wives, may your wife , sister and mothers be made to pass through kidnap experience
Re: Gunmen Kidnap Senator George Sekibo’s Wife In Port Harcourt by Jakumo(m): 8:08am On Mar 25, 2012
Ogb5, you have bought up a very important point, namely that there are in fact TWO categories of kidnappers in Nigeria.

The most prevalent variety of Nigerian kidnapping gangs are NOT particular about selectively capturing only members of the filthy rich plundering class in order to demand cash ransoms from relatives. For this "traditional" variety of kidnapper, the victim is the commodity they seek, because their primary focus is the harvest of human organs to be used for pointless and futile fetish rituals that seek to conjure up cash from fetid human remains. The net worth of victims brought in by these gangs relates to the market value of their innards, and not the content of their family bank accounts, meaning of course that impoverished victims are valued equally with rich ones, given that all humans are identical when dissected for spare parts. As Ogb5 pointed out, NOBODY is safe from organ harvesters, regardless of social standing and asset portfolios.

The modern updates of the human-parts harvesters are of course the kidnappers who ply their trade for the purpose of demanding ransoms in exchange for the release of kidnap victims un-harmed. These abduction gangs are HIGHLY selective in the victims they grab, in order to maximize the ransom amount they can demand from to relatives or employers of their captives. The purchase value of the car used by any given motorist is THE most reliable indicator of social status and wealth, and as such is the PRIMARY criterion that informs decisions to trail, waylay and abduct motorists who are needed for ransom demands. The woman kidnapped while riding in a Hummer was taken by this second category of kidnapper whose focus is the ransom to be collected, and the simple fact is that the victim would most likely have driven past the kidnapping gang without incident, had she been in a cheap, dented car, and not a Hummer.

Personally, whenever I am in Nigeria, my oracle forbids me from so much as setting foot in ANY car that is newer than 15 years old. Yes sir, I drive a chit car on Nigeria's mean streets, and carry at all times my valid Nigerian firearms lisence, along with my trusty Winchester 12-guage pump-action shotgun, loaded for bear, so as to be fully prepared for unexpected dialog with organ harvesters who are not deterred by my crappy looking car, and who are also able to keep up with the ferocious power of its finely tuned 5-liter V8 engine.
