Counted about 6 slam dunk red cards and a couple of assault charges in the first 5 minutes.
I am not sure the ref booked any player in that period.

Everyone has his style. Baresi, Maldini, Adams hardly tackled, however Paolo Montero was top class even with his agbero ways. Despite all his cards, he was a sure banker for Juventus for 9 years, and they were (arguably) the strongest and most consistent club side in the world during the period Paolo played for them. The triumvirate of Mark Juliano, Paolo Montero and Ciro Ferrara were like cash in the bank, with Alessio Tacchinardi sometimes dropping in. Of those, Montero and Ferrara were the most respected.

I agree we cannot use football standards of now to measure footballers of those days. Footballers are faster and more tactical now, Those days it was pure natural skill and less of fitness.

There were more specialists, Defenders arent expected to pass, its just to hack down attackers, Same with DM they arent expected to pass just twart attacks, Number 10 are just expected to dribble and create for the whole team and 9 to ghost around and poach.

Most footballer and coaches of those days smoke heavily drink and some might even struggle to run 400m.

But Juventus dominating the Serie A and making 3 back to back CL finals while having defence as one of their major strong point, that has to count for something in the book for Montero, Ferrara and co
