Lagos State Government will launch the first consumer focused Household Energy and Emission Calculator in Nigeria at its 2012 Economic Summit (Ehingbeti 2012), which would commence on Monday.

General Manager of the State Electricity Board (LSEB), Mrs. Damilola Ogunbiyi, unveiled the plan to launch the energy emission calculator in a statement, saying it was designed “to calculate the energy usage and emissions, which households in the state generate”.

Ogunbiyi explained that the energy emission calculator project was an initiative of the State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and LSEB, which she described as the ministry’s implementation agency.

She said the energy emission calculation “will be done online via a user friendly self help tool. Individuals will be required to log on to LSEB website and calculate their estimated energy consumption by simply inputting the number of appliances located within their homes”.

She added that it “is important for Lagos residents to understand their energy needs, as well as being able to calculate their energy consumption as it helps promote an energy awareness culture.

“The calculator is part of the State's government Power Sector Development programme which will also feature an energy policy, independent power projects and electrification of industrial estates, renewable energy initiatives, public lighting, energy programmes for schools and graduates and the State-wide energy audit programme.

“The state government is highly committed to seeing through its power sector development plan. This initiative is another step towards the preparation for the increasing energy demands of the state,” she said.

In a statement, Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ben Akabueze, explained that Ehingbeti 2012 “is set to lift Lagos residents out of poverty with a focus on four key areas namely: Power, Agriculture, Transportation and Housing & Urban renewal (PATH)”.

You are right. I just don't know how else to get this done and still get the desired results. send checklists to every house in lagos for lagosians to fill out and return by mail?

Send state workers to go from door to door to collect the same data?

Both options are costly and time consuming.
