Jonathan Calls For Attitudinal Change Among Nigerians To Tackle Insecurity by Nobody: 9:30pm On May 08, 2012
President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Monday called for attitudinal change among Nigerians to tackle the security challenge in the country.

The President, represented by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Edem Duke, made the call at the official launching of “Do The Right Thing: Transform Nigeria”, campaign by the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

He said all Nigerians must see themselves as one and pay allegiance to the country through responsible behaviour.

Mr. Jonathan said his administration would continue to address the daunting challenges posed by insecurity. He added that the citizens must play their part in the fight to restore peace.

He said the campaign by NOA is another major effort by the government to inculcate attitudinal change in the people.

“This is a moral re- awakening programme that will galvanize the people to greatness which lies in the right attitude,” the president said.

He said the charge is to offer the nation a new lease of life as no nation can grow without a remarkable change in the citizens' attitude and advised NOA to ensure that all Nigerians bought into the transformation agenda of the administration.

The president said although the task could be difficult, it would get support from the administration.

Earlier, Mike Omeri, the Director General of NOA, noted that the programme is to make all Nigerians, irrespective of class and status, to always do the right thing.

“It is a value orientation campaign that seeks to create a deliberate consciousness in Nigerians to do what is right,” Mr. Omeri said.

He said the logo of the campaign is to strike the conscience of the people on the need to join hands in the development of the country.

According to him, it is the beginning of a new thing that will daily remind Nigerians of the need to be part of the building of a fatherland where justice and progress are assured.

Mr. Omeri urged Nigerians to always examine their conscience while undertaking a task in the name of the country.

The director-general urged Nigerians to cooperate with the president to transform Nigeria by ensuring peace.

“There is hope for Nigerians if we work together to transform the country,” he said.

He said the campaign would seek the partnership of stakeholders as it would involve house-to-house engagement and around the neighbourhood.
