I am a lawyer, called to the Nigerian Bar 20 years ago, I remember the pride with which I set off to Chancery Lane in London to get fitted for my wig and gown at 20! My colleagues from the USA and other non ceremonial dress countries, while they initially laugh at the pomp of it all, also admit that they do so with a certain sense of envy. There is a certain prestige and identification associated with the wig and gown, when properly made and worn, that makes all the years of studying and abuse worthwhile! I agree that not everyone can afford a wig and gown from Ede & Ravenscroft, but the folks who make them in Nigeria cut corners and produce sub standard end products (as evidenced by the jacked up wig on 1st page).

I will admit, the heat makes it a bit uncomfortable, but I can deal with a bit of discomfort. Besides, if all things were equal in Nigeria, all court rooms and hallways really should be air conditioned, at this point in our post-independence history.

I LOVE my wig and gown, and I humbly submit that I look fabulous in it!
