Some people has described today, the black Sunday for many governorship aspirants under the umbrella of Action Congress of Nigeria in the forthcoming election in Ondo state. Today, Asiwaju Bola tinubu and ACN chieftains will pick the candidate that will face incumbent governor; Olusegun Mimiko in the next governorship election. ACN has over 30 candidates jostling for the seat at Alagbaka.

AKURE – INDICATIONS emerged, yesterday, that the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, may have picked the former Nigerian Bar Association, President, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, as its governorship candidate for the October 20 election in Ondo State.

This came as an in-law to the immediate past governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu and former Okitipupa Local Government chairman, Mr. Segun Ayerin and hundreds of the party’s supporters have defected to the ruling Labour Party, LP.

Sources within ACN said the leaders of the party met in Lagos, yesterday, and finally picked Akeredolu as the party’s flagbearer.

Another source said the choice of Akeredolu has been communicated to other 30 aspirants jostling for the ticket.
It was learnt that the aspirants were from five shortlisted to three before the leaders finally agreed on Akeredolu.

The three shortlisted include Akeredolu, Segun Abraham and Saka Lawal while Dr. Olu Agunloye and Professor Ajayi Boroffice were dropped by the leaders.

Vanguard learnt that the choice of Akeredolu irked two of the aspirants, who immediately after leaving the meeting, initiated plans to join other political parties to contest for the governorship positions.

This,according to sources, was after their suggestion that instead of imposition of Akeredolu, a primary should be conducted for the most popular candidate to emerge, was rejected by the leaders. The leaders, it was gathered, insisted that the seat should be zoned to the Northern part of the state.

Prof. Robert Ajayi Boroffice

The Emergence of Prof. Robert Ajayi Boroffice as the Chairman of the Nigerian
Senate Committee on Science and Technology seems to suggest that the Senators mean
business as far as Science and Technology is concerned.

Unless of course they regard
the Science and Tech Committee as not one of the "Juicy" Committees because Prof
Boroffice is from a minority Party, The Labour Party which controls only one State,
Ondo State.

But I think Boroffice is a round Peg in a round hole .

Boroffice a PhD in Zoology has spent the better part of his professional career as
a Science Administrator, from Head of Department , to Dean of Faculty, to Chairman
committee of Deans at Lagos State University, to co -ordinator Science section of
the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure(NASENI) to Pioneer
Director General, National Agency for Space Research and Development.

Born on April 23 1949 he is reminding of another Robert, John Robert Oppenheimer, Sceintist and
Administrator( born April 22 1904. died February 18 1967), who presided over the
Manhattan Project involving 100,000 scientists and Engineers.

Unlike Oppenheimer, Boroffice would not have to build an Atomic Bomb this time
around ,what he would need to do is to use NASENI to develop tools and techniques to
wage a successful War against poverty and disease.

Further more , in Professor Borofffice, Science, technology ,Culture and Tradition
meet in one man for he is also the Asiwaju( Leader) of Akokoland comprising 48
kingdoms in Ondo state perhaps this could translate into some good will for our
scientists researching Traditional healng practices and Herbal remedies.

As oshiomole had won d election since pdp primary election in Edo, i'll also want to congratulate Gov. Mimiko for his second term in office (in advance)... Akeredolu might have possibly won a LGA Election in Lagos but in Ondo he's no where to b found for councillorship post.... As for PDP its a game lost already.... :-) congrat iROKO.

Why is the romour monger so eager churning out falsehood to deceive the people, this is propaganda from Rotimi Akeredolu's camp. We expect the ACN leaders to present a mass appeal candidate that can win Oct 20 election. If the Zoning of the Governorship to Ondo North Senatorial District is to be completed, the 3 Fed Constituency should zone it to the Akoko North that has not produce a Governor before, this is fairness and equity.

Owo Fed Constituency has produced Chief Adekunle Ajasin and Akoko South Fed Constituency has produced Chief Adefarati. Rotimi Akeredolu is from Owo, Prof Ajayi Boroface is from Akoko South, while Saka Lawal, Segun Abraham and Dr Olu Agunloye are from Akoko North Fed Constituency. It is Akoko North's turn, not Owo!
