missmishel: Have anyone use kipocin capsules to cure pimples during breastfeeding? i went to the pharmcy to buy clarexTen for my face, then the pharmacist prescrib this drug for me that it cure pimples from inside and will not effect my baby. i've been taken it untill yestady when i went to buy another pack from differnt pharmcy. but the woman told me it's not good when breastfeeding. i've been so worried since yestday. although my baby is healthy but am not happy it seems am bcoming a careless mother.
My Dear I thnk u shd dscontinue the use of dt drug 4 the sake of ur baby's health. U can battle pimple leta not now u are breastfeeding. Baby's health is paramount now pls.

I'm truly sorry.Mayb d tone was wrong but its nothin personal ok? I apologise.U'r a vry intelligent lady&i applaud u.What u said makes a lot of sense.Kudos

Hello ladies!

How are you all? I have been on NL for a few years. I struggled with infertility and was in the PCOS and trying to conceive thread. Thank God who is so faithful, I just recently gave birth to my first baby, a boy who is now 6 weeks.

It's been great sofar, not as challenging as I thought it would be and we (hubby and I) have adjusted very well. The only problem is the colics. It's not as bad as a few weeks ago when he would cry and cry at night, now he mostly grunts (very loudly) and stretches and moans a little bit when he is crampy which is mostly when he sleeps. What can I do?
I have tried gripe water, doesnt work. I had been told abt bitter kola nut (grind it, soak it in a little bit of water and give it to the baby and he will poo alot and it will stop) but didnt want to do it (i hate the taste myself) plus I wanted to read about it first but of course3 I didnt find any info about it since its more like a traditional remedy. At wits end I did it yesterday, I gave about 10ml (2 teaspoons or a little over half a tablespoon) of the kola nut water around 11pm yesterday but nothing sofar. Baby does poo a few times a day, sometimes a lot, sometimes just a little and sometimes stringy and seedy. I breastfeed exclusively but no particular changes and he still grunts, moans and stretches from the tummy discomfort.
Please share what has worked for you if anything. I know its not that big of a deal and it will overgrow it but its still painful to see him like that. However for the first time since he was born he slept from 1am until now (its noon
and he is still sleeping, and woke up only at 6am and 9am to feed) so that comforts me.

trinity042: Pls I'm so confused, I dnt think I'm producing enough milk for my baby, wat shud I do, wat can I eat?

I have the same problem. In addition to that my baby throws up and spits up alot, sometime a large amount at almost half of his feedings. But I have read, and several lactation consultants at the hospital who were helping with latching and breastfeeding when I first gave birth told me also that as long as you follow a normal balanced diet with 3 meals and 2 snacks, you will produce what your baby needs and the milk production will adjust to the baby's needs. I feel like my newborn is not always satisfied and often shows signs of wanting to suck some more shortly after a feeding so thats why I feel like I might not have enough. But so long as your baby poos normally and gains weight consistently there is no need to worry as it will soon be time to introducing other foods (however breastmilk and/or formula will still need to be the main source of nutrients until about a year's age from what I was told).

A big congrats 2 u for ur new born,I'm so so happy 4 u considering d fact that u struggled with infertility n now God as blessed u with a baby boy.I also used gripe water 4 my first child and it didnt work 4 her until d pain went on its own,my 2nd child didnt use any drug cos she wasn't given any from d hospital they said non of d colic drugs work n d colic stopped on its own.Other mothers lie their baby with d stomach facing down n said it reduces d pain but I couldn't cos food comes out of my babies nose n it wasn't advisable. I know u feel bad seeing him in that pain but it wud stop on its own, just try n sing n play with him n play cool music that wud calm him down (it helped my kids right now they r music lovers). Its well!!!

hello mum.. I know some peeps think it is not necessary but have you tried massaging his navel with hot water?(Not burning hot o!) My older son was that way until my mum pointed out that their navels takes time to close up and heal after the cord has fallen off, that I was suppose to massage and use the baby mentholata till three months. I did that to my son and the whole crying, wriggling, grunting everything stopped. With my newborn I am still doing it and it is working fine for me.
It is well with us o!

To add to this contribution, pls get ORS (I use oral cossy) and use a pack to a litre of cooled boiled water or bottled water. Try to give her as much as you can until the stooling subsides. This is for her recover any lost electrolytes so she doesn't become weak.
And pls take her to ur paed fast!.

Very true! Truthfully I forgot this, maybe as I am not used to the colic word. Yes, I'v always known navel disturbs babies real good! My mum also emphasised the use of mentholetum, I remember refusing initially bc Pead said not apply anytin. I couldnt help it once when I couldnt figure out the cause of my boy's continous crying(and stretching pushing up his tummy)and as soon as I applied it the crying stopped and he slept. I did consistently till 5months oh(if not more self)

Wafibabe, do U know the amusing thing? mum said while applying the mentholetum, they normally put a finger around the.navel and apply in anti-clockwise direction for boys and clockwise for girls grin grin grin wetin concern me wit direction....elderly people's ideas can be very funny grin.

grin your mum and mine must be from the same village.. The things all these elderly women make us do ehn? When i just newly had my present baby, he was very pale looking, and couldn't latch on to my boobz nor pass out the mecomium for 2 days, my gynae could not figure out what was wrong so he suggested calling a paed. As soon as he left my mumsy just went to the pharmacy and bought glucose. We applied little to warm water and fed him with it. Before 1hr sef he started passing out the greenish stuff. By evening he was boobilizing.
When he was around 3 weeks old, we discovered his has little jaundice and we started the glucose water which my paed didn't object to. Then my mum just went to the market and bought lemon grass and scent leaves, and pepper soup spices. she said 9 long spices for boy and 7 long spices for girls (whatever that means I still don't know). We boiled all in a kettle which became his bath water for 1 week. Believe me, my son whom I thought has a light skin turn to brown like him papa own.. Lol!.. And every thing cleared, him eyes come dey over white like torch...

Now about the colic thing, I read that the oyinbo ppl could not figure out why their babies wouldn't stop crying, they decided to call it colic. Wetin be COLIC? It aint got a thing on my children cus I massage their navels (very important), massage their shoulders (due to carry carry), their backs, I EBF with water (its me o! Pls don't quote me). They sleep very fine and me sef I get my peace of mind.

^^^ no be lie! grin grin same village oh!!! lol@ 7for girls 9for boys.lol. The massaging is very important for me! Mum do say because they'v not learnt hw to turn conveniently, they tend to hav body aches from sleeping long on a position and also additional fat can make the nerves tight so U loosen it by massaging and give room for easy expansion and added fat. Sometime if my boy becomes over active and refuses to sleep early, even till 12midnit, I'll just grab him and give him a relaxing massage and everybody can sleep in peace. aba!.. but I do the thing the way am comfortable with oh.lol....thinking of it now makes me laugh!

Hello mummies in the house?, hope u all are doing great?. I EBF my son who is 3 months old. He poops normally but for 2 days now he has not pooped. I tried giving him water this morning to see if it would help but he rejected it and was crying, so I had to breastfeed him. What can I do to make him poop?

The 1st time I gav my son milo,he also pooped,I figured it was cos his system wasn't used to something so sweet(same thing happened when I started giving him bananas),so I gav it a space of bout 3days and I tried again, gradually d pooping stopped.

Dunno much bout beverages for kids though,I just waited til he was a year old when I cud be sure that to a certain extent his system cud handle wholemilk and adult beverage

If he is still feeding n not having fever then there is nothing 2 worry about. My kids went thru it,elderly mother's around me said it makes children add weight n it was true they were really blowing up but when is d 3rd day n they don't stool naturally we put cotton bud in mentholator not Robb n put it gently in d baby's anus n within 3-5 mins, boom!!! big, smelly stool.Try it,it works but u can let ur baby's Dr know. Good luck!!!
