Unfortunately, when people don't understand something rather than take time to ask questions they jump into making baseless accusations.

The same way anyone with enough cash can get discounts for goods and services and those that buy at retail prices don't.

How will subsidizing the cost of goods and services for club members and may be assisting the less privileged bring about a New Nigeria. Putting a band aid on the cost of living does not address the basic problem of democratic government and accountability. Back in the day, our father's generation formed cooperative societies, and in Eastern Nigeria, even set up a Cooperative Bank. All their lofty goals are extinct because these ideas do not address the underlying problem of a representative government.

Actually, arrangements are currently being made with GTB (arguably the biggest/best bank in Nigeria at the moment) on something the management wants done for all club members - Naija Branded ID cards with interswitch magnetic strips, personal identity and hologram. Hopefully, this will become available when we're in full launch.

I appreciate your sense of maturity.  Even though you guys have your doubts, I'm glad you're wise enough not to descend to the level of name-calling.

The concept of the NNC is actually to use a sort of social networking to build a critical mass of 5,000,000 Nigerians, who will be active participants of the nation building.  Through this networking, members will be able to share ideas, proffer solutions, and execute these solutions.  We'll not only be talking, we shall ACT as well.

Amongst the many projects we will be embarking on, is the community development.  The club will, in the little way it can, help develop areas where government has paid little or no attention to.  This will involve giving to the needy of such communities to cater for themselves, funding neglected public schools, offering scholarships to public school students, etc.  Already, we're working on this, and the school concerned for now is Ojodu Community Secondary School.  Someone also suggested, in the first meeting held, that some sort of "Shadow Government" should be formed. . . I believe this is currently being looked into.

The benefits I highlighted previously are just there to add value to the membership, and to get more people interested.  We realise that Nigerians would naturally hesitate to partake in anything productive, unless there is a motivation/reward for it. So for taking a conscious decision to be a part of this national reform, the club management feels that club members deserve these benefits, and they're working frantically on getting the other deals available to the members (at the moment, there are just 3 deals). Whether this is elitist or not, is debatable, depending on the way you see it.

Moreso, the club currently has some N1.3m available, and members are being asked to vote on which project they want the money to be used on (there are about 8 options).  The one with the highest vote gets the money.  This project will be embarked on this week, I think.

@Blatant, I'm neither their secretary, nor the treasurer.  I'm just an ordinary member of the club.  Besides, we already have many Nigerians in diaspora joining already, so I'm definitely not here for any foreign currency.

There isn't any much difference, as far as using it in an ATM, goes.  But with the card, you're recognized as a bona fide member of the NNC wherever you go.  It also helps to reduce the levels of bureaucracy involved in getting the deals being offered to members.  Moreso, if you read the content of the link I put there, you'll see that those that choose to partake in the health deal before December 20, will have health access codes on their cards, which will give them access to first class medical care at over 80% discount.

Based on the votes of the members, we have decided to add value to 4 Cases this week. Two of these cases are critical public health cases that we can donate money to without any major paraphernalia. Some of our delegates will go ahead and do this ahead of us.

The rest of us will be going to two places on Saturday. Remand Home Boys Oregun and Modupe Cole, Okota. We’ll be giving them some of the items they have requested for as needs, spend some time with them and help them refurbish some of their dilapidated structures. In Modupe Cole we’ll be helping them to build a shed, as some of the workshop exercises they have are being done in the sun. In the Remand Home, we will confirm with them today whether it is renovation of one of their hostels that is urgent or helping them with an internet ready computer room.

We will be having coverage for the event from 12 Newspaper houses and 3 Television houses. The News Agency of Nigeria that supplies news for international stations will also be present. Like we confirmed to our members, we want to add visible value.

Modus Operandi

1. All members will need to go to their members’ area and click on the events link and chose to join to be a part of this event. This will help us know how many people to prepare for.

2. We will be renting a bus or buses depending on our numbers. This bus will convey us from 71 Allen Avenue, beside UBA to our destinations. We will depart from this venue at 3pm New Nigeria Time.

3. All interested members should dress in casual ware with a New Nigeria T-Shirt. If you don’t have one, there will be some available for sale at departure.

4. We will be taking some carpenters; painters and other specialists along, these ones will lead the refurbishing projects and will continue after we are gone.

Don’t just wait to hear about how this went, be a part of it. This is one of the things the New Nigeria is about… working together to make the lives of others better.
