GEJ Angry Over Oba's Action by ifihearam: 8:12am On Jul 02, 2012
We gathered from an impeccable source in the presidency that the President is very angry over the actions of the Oba of benin courtesy of his last visit to Edo state. The president who expressed his anger to close friends said the Oba is a father to all and should respect all as he(oba)is been respected by all. He sited instancces to the ill-mannered reception given to him at the palace as well as the obas open support for a particular candidate over others. His words. "The oba is like a father to all in edo state,he should give blessings to all and not openly annoint a particular candidate over the others."

IMO,what the oba did is not good, should the president have entered benin without visiting the oba you will all crucify him,no oba can do this to abacha and remain there, but seriously the oba did not do well.

Indeed. Why can GEJ, for once in his mediocre and compromised existence, not ponder on the obvious reasons the most respected Nigerians (Achebe, Soyinka, Balarabe Musa et al) never respect or support him?

Instead, like a child unable to see his own wrongdoing that loses him respect and support, GEJ prefers to see "disrespect" and "ungratefulness" everywhere to the extent he can despatch his shameless dogs like Abati to childishly attack those (like Achebe when he refused GEJ's National honour) who are part of the few international positive image of Nigeria while GEJ continues to disgrace our Nation with his "one scandal a day" leadership.

Does anyone, for example, know why Otedola has not been kicked out of the Presidential economic management team regarding his soap opera antics that must , in almost all nations on earth, have made his position untenable?

GEJ unfortunately does not respect traditional rulers, even when he expects them to respect him.

Infact, he has no respect whatsoever, i.e the MAULAG case.

Traditional leaders have their own duties to attend, but then GEJ wouldn't understand the degree of consequence that comes with leaving duties unattended .

GEJ disrespectfully embarked on Oba's palace without employing the slightest manner to atleast let Oba or Oba's attendance know that he's coming to visit.

If anyone should come to my house without calling me ahead of time, I'd be pissed. It's pure disregard of etiquette.

The point is that GEJ is always too quick to take offence against those who oppose him without ever looking at himself. A truly decent leader , if erring, will not persecute opposition many Nigerians adjudge and appreciate as consistent "good guys" who have always meant well for their Nation. It is simply impossible to make enemies of so many of those sort of people if a well-meaning President.

If leading correctly, why would any President gain the condemnation of the likes of Achebe, Soyinka et al let alone box himself into a situation he has to malign and attack those sort of folks who are icons of all that is good and positive about our Nation and should be carried along in any genuine march towards progress and National greatness?

Why should GEJ embrace anger at the action of the Oba instead of to look at his own leadership that sees him getting resistance where he should gain support? What sort of Oba, after witnessing many years of PDP misrule, would sit back and watch GEJ and Anenih's "PDP must capture Edo" show that is seeking to replace a man who is performing with one who left the Army Barracks to seek political office? Some of you don't realise, because you pay zero attention to what obtains elsewhere, that Nigeria is led like an aberration with negative practices/ideas long extinct worldwide and only seen in failed Nations like Somalia.

He is the president and the oba regardless is even under the governor who is answerable to the president technically. It should be recalled that no oba or king has constitutional role and so respect must be accorded to the president for deeming it fit to pay a visit to the oba in the first place.

WHAT WAS HIS MISSION IN EDO STATE? SHEA HE IS THE FATHER OF THE NATION ACCORDING TO PDP SLANGS AND HE WENT TO CAMPAIGN OPENLY FOR A CANDIDATE FROM HIS PARTY AND DINT SEE ANYTHING WRONG IN THAT AND NOW THAT THE FATHER OF EDO PEOPLE HAS DECIDED TO CHOSE AMONG HIS SONS, WHATS WRONG WITH THAT?

ASO ROCK IS D SEAT OF POWER AND NOT THE OBA'S PALACE SO WHAT EVER TREATMENT HE GETS THERE SERVES HIM RIGHT AFTER ALL HE MIGHT JUST VE BEEN AN UNWANTED GUEST. I HOPE THIS STORY IS NOT TRUE BUT IF BY FATE IT HAPPENS TO BE THEM THE OBA IS A MAN OF HONOR UNLIKE OTHER TRADITIONAL RULERS THAT ARE NOTHING BUT PSYCOPHANTS.
Re: GEJ Angry Over Oba's Action by PapaBrowne(m): 11:46am On Jul 02, 2012
I think the Oba took his support for Oshiomole too far. Even Oshiomole received the President wella. Interestingly too, Oshiomole recieved Anenih(who he accused of attempts on his life) at the previous PDP rally where the Vice President was president.

PDP at this time has no business in Edo State. Oshimole is doing a good job that sometimes you wonder where he gets money. He is rebuilding the destruction that Igbinedion and the Anenih crew visited on Edo state for 8 years. In this regard, I don't blame the Oba. And I even go further in commending the Oba for supporting a Non Benin candidate over a Benin candidate. Tells a lot about the detribalized nature of the state.

Can one also modify the highlighted part of your post as follows:

'The President is like a father to all in Edo state (and indeed Nigeria) and should not openly campaign for a particular candidate over the others'?

Although this may sound controversial, but why can't the President stay away from local politics, at least openly, especially after his own election as the President?

Mr Jonathan Goodluck is supposed to be the President of all Nigerians. He is not the 'president' of PDP alone. Why should he spend his time and the country's resources and paraphernalia of office to advance the progress and fortune of one of the political parties in the land? Yeah, you might say he rose to power on the platform provided by the PDP but is this fair?

In my opinion, in other to preserve the respect and awe of the President, and even the Vice President, he should be protected from local campaigns (at least openly) or local politics.

The presidents cammpaign does not automatically make the candidate a winner but a sort of solidarity to the party as he is a product of the party.

I agree that the Oba should not openly play politics. But should the President, who is a father to all, openly play politics especially at the expense of state duties?

By the way, the issue is beyond whether or not who the Oba or the President endorses emerges the winner.

We should be asking questions, why should the President or the Oba throw himself headlong into local campaigns? If you say this is right for whatever reason then you should not complain of the backlash of such a decision.
Re: GEJ Angry Over Oba's Action by ifihearam: 12:17pm On Jul 02, 2012
Osho played a very matured role by still welcoming the president and his entourage even if their chief aim was to campaign against him. Perhaps he is confident of winning the election in a landslide. That's a true spirit of sportsmanship and practising politics without bitterness.

Yes, he displayed a good spirit but does our President need to put himself in such a 'difficult' position or put his host in an uncomfortable position? What if Oshiomole refused to welcome him? Any affront on the office of the President transcends the person occupying the position. Why should we have a system that kind of exposes the president to ridicule?

I think the President and his Vice should stay above the fray of local campaigns. It will always expose them to the mud from the murky water of politics.

Why do people keep peddling this lie?

Onyearugbulem suspended the Oba from the chairmanship of the council of traditional rulers on the basis of rumors that the Oba preferred Lucky Imasuen to Lucky Igbinedion as a candidate for governor and was therefore interfering in the politics of the state. He had no authority to suspend the Oba from being Oba and didn't even try it.

Onyearugbulem died in a hotel at the age of 47 under unclear circumstances. The guy was a dunce.
