Comptroller Bot admitted supplying bullets to Jos
renowned robbers’ hunter, Ali Kwara, said Customs Comptroller Jack Bot, who is being accused of supplying weapons to his tribemen in Jos, has admitted the crime.
Kwara, who led the team that arrested Bot and his accomplice, told the BBC that Bot told him that he supplied thousands of bullets and other weapons to his tribesmen in Jos in order to defend themselves against their enemies.
He spoke against insinuations that Bot, who is being investigated, was wrongly implicated by him.
“He admitted supplying thousands of bullets to his people. The 2IC of his junior brother said he was once given four boxes of bullets and he took them to Jack Bot’s house in Abuja, and his orderly also said he collected two boxes and took them to him.
“He (Jack Bot) said Muslims were killing them so he took the weapons to his hometown for his people to protect themselves. There is no set up in this matter; my team commandant is a Christian, his mother is Angas from Plateau and his father is Basayi from Bauchi and all the policemen that accompanied us in the operation are Christians, no single Muslim in the team except me.”
However, Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang has called for a thorough investigation to ascertain the truth, saying the state would never support individuals or group to illegally acquire arms.
Jang, who spoke through his special adviser on media Ayuba Pam, told the BBC Hausa Service that Bot shouldn’t have been suspended since investigation was ongoing.
“If it is true he did what he was accused of doing, it is unfortunate and the law must be applied. However, what we are saying is that the investigation must be done carefully and with sincerity,” he said
Bot was arrested following the arrests of some armed robbers in Abuja, who confessed getting their arms and ammunition from some Customs officials attached to the Niger State command.
