Jarus: Nairaland was 7 in March this year. In its 7 years of existence, 5 of which I was actively a participant, I have witnessed many fierce rivalries among some members. For history purpose, I have started this thread to discuss the rivalries and how they played out.

For now, three come to my mind (in no order)

1, Beaf v Oyb: Since 2009 when Beaf joined Nairaland, he has never seen eye to eye with oyb. Both of them are always at the opposite heads of debates, always following one another about, throwing tantrums and punches, both serving bans in the process. So hot are their stand-offs that if it were to be real life, necks would have been wrung.

2, Beaf v Gbawe: For anybody familiar with Nigerian politics, it is well known that ACN are the biggest opposition to ruling PDP. Same has been playing out on Nairaland since at least 2010. The opposition camp is led by Gbawe while the PDP/GEJ camp is led by Beaf. Anywhere these two guys meet, it's war.

3, Olabowale v Davidylan:[/b]From 2006 through 2009, when the Nairaland Religion section was in its fiecest phase, there were two main gladiators: Davidylan and Olabowale. Olabowale, now out of Nairaland, led the NL Muslims ably supported by Babs787, while Davidylan and his lieutenant, Ohsisi, marshalled from the Christianity tent. With keyboards being smatched and phone keypads being punched, the Religion section was by far the hottest on Nairaland then. Seun's joker, albeit forced, of creating a separate childboard for the Muslims, to a reasonable extent, calmed frayed nerves.

[b]4, Tpia v Funmi series: One of the fiercest rivalries in the early years of Nairaland was that between Tpia and a lady called Funmi, who operated under different monikers such as Hotfunmi, Deepzone, Redhotchic, Earthmama, Osunamazon,pepperspray etc. Any thread they 'sighted' one another, it was war!

5, Becomrich v Imaginary Seun: Becomrich aka Musiwa has been on Nairaland for many years and he has only one person as his rival: Seun! Anything that happens to Becomrich, real or imagined, to him it is caused by Seun. He even claims Seun is responsible for his bad English. He pulled out of Nairaland to form his own site he called 'Globe'. Although the other guy ignores him, Becomrich appears not done yet on his Seunophobia.


Can we have more? And with justifications. Bust-ups in just one or two threads do not qualify to be 'hot rivalry' as used here.

duality: abeegiii!!! give it to BEAF. the guy is the undisputed champ. the guy na real street fighter. he never gets tied. taken on the opposition come what may. sometimes you go through a 7 paged thread and its BEAF vs the rest. he never chickens out. he takes very difficult positions and still finds a vantage. what his motivation is, i really do not know. but one thing is sure.being on Nairaland is not just a hubby for him; its a job of maybe life and death. hate him if you like. you can't take this fact away from him .he is highly knowledgeable, intelligent, and good at what he is doing. those who selected Beaf for this NL job made the right choice.

Ragdollz officially spend all her days on nairaland fighting with Miss Darkskin. Like seriously no fight on nairaland can beat this. not in another decade. This was hardcore. Almost like Nas vs Jay z battle. Never knew internet hatred could extend this far.

But I will never forget ragdollz and Mz Darkskin fighting about the 'phone'.The fonts used to fight that day almost brought NL server down.

So many threads would get locked whenever they sighted each other. Infact at one point I thought they were one and same person.

Who remember this gal, Platinum nk in 2010 Ileke-idi can't claim not to know her. .lol. The both of em where like cat & rat. Their fierce hate for eachother was the very reason she changed from Fl-Gators to ileke-idi, who remembers?
There was this particular there was this particular thread they fought about a guy they met here on NL, theseeker, yeah, that was the dude name. The fight was so mean that they started posting privating YIM massages and nude pics both of em had with the guy at different times. It was not a joke o. . I remember this guy,na2day putting his own sugar, me too joining in. . Remember this chic too that hated my Guts, amebo. That night, i remember being warned and FL gators and platinum nk were outrightly shown the door out for their extreme methods. It was not a joke o, that was one rivalry that will continue to go down in the anals of NL as cold and Dirty. Little wonder FL gators had to change her moniker to ileke-idi, she got a big black eye on that thread from platinum nk who herself later got in a serious mess that even SEUN had to intervene cos he was threatened by the gal's family memebers.

When threadstarter created this thread I bet he wasn't making reference to any run off the mill 'face me I face you sqauabble'. His list has rivalries that shook the walls of Nairaland.

In recent times, With the exception of Beaf v Gbawe rivalry the rest are just room and parlour squabble.

How can anyone forget Nairaland Chicks v Whitelexi? Somehow whitelexi cornered a good number of Nairaland chicks. How he did it was and is still beyond me. But when things went tits up . . . .pheeew
