50 Men and Women That Moved Nairaland: 2005-2010 by Jarus(m): 6:17pm On Mar 15, 2010
NL will be half a decade old this year, and it is necessary to celebrate people that have made Nairaland tick, even though virtually everybody has, through his/her own part, contributed immensely to making NL what it is today - Nigeria's largest, most authoritative and most lively discussion forum.

Some have been here since the inception of NL, some left along the way, some joined years later, some joined only recently and made great impact, some are even controversial personalities, but the fact is they just cannot be ignored.

I'm therefore taking up the challenge of researching and compiling the list of 50 Nairalanders that have moved and shaken this forum since its beginning in 2005.

We will have the following categories:
-The Platinum Award: Exclusively for Admin and the two Super Mods
-The Current Legends: Those that joined in 2005 and 2006 and are still around
-The Past Legends: Those that joined in 2005 and 2006, made great impact then, but are no longer that active NL
-The Emerging Legends: Those of 2007/2008 set but who are showing signs of greatness

The thread will also feature interview with the legends, which will be posted here. It promises to be fun and entertaining.

While I continue with the research, I invite Nairalanders to join me in this project by suggesting the names and profile links of the people you think the caps fit.

Stages
-Compilation of 50 man list(still ongoing)
-Selection of 5 greatest nairalanders of all time
-Interview with the legends

Thanks

UPDATED MARCH 2011
As NL clocks 6 and this thread clocks 1, we want to induct 10 more people and have 60 MEN AND WOMEN THAT MOVED NL 2005-2011

So begin to nominate

1, Anybody who deserves to be there but was omitted last year, or
2, Anybody that, though didn't have the records to make it in 2010, but has done enough between March 2010 and March 2011 to make the list now

Start nominating.

List originally drawn in March 2010, to recognise 50 Legends of Nairaland as the forum clocked 50. Now updated to 80 as Nairaland clocked 8

FINAL LIST

THE PLATINUM CATEGORY
1, Seun: Without mincing words, the founder and CEO of Nairaland, Seun Osewa, is one guy you can't ignore, like him or hate him. Perhaps, he should be regarded as the father of online foruming in Nigeria. Despite the mushrooming of online forums in Nigeria almost everyday, Seun's NL remains the most attractive, lively and humorous web forum in the country, not to talk of its been the largest. His vision is commendable.

2, Mukina: Mukina is another engine room of NL, akin to Chief Operating Officer(COO) in most organizations. Here since 2006, Mukina, despite being a non-Nigerian, has mixed freely with Nigerians. She is unarguably, and even officially, the second most powerful personality on NL. She enters our list of NL legends.

3, Debosky On Nairaland since April 2006, Debosky is arguably the most sought after, most respected and most assertive Nairalander after Seun. His leadership skills is also phenomenal. Little wonder he was promoted Super Moderator a couple of months ago. Welcome Debosky to NL Hall of Fame.

THE GOLD CATEGORY: CURRENT LEGENDS
4, Akolawole:: One of the earliest Nairalanders, being a member of the 2005 set, Akolawole dwells more in the sports section, and assumes an elder stateman stature there. He is one of the encyclopedia of NL history.
5, Davidylan: Joined November 20,  2005. David(Ph.D) is unarguably one of the most controversial Nairalanders, known for his fierce debates in religion, politics, and foreign affairs sections, as well as romance and sports sections. He is one NL you just can't ignore and he has been around since 2005 and doesn't look like quitting soon. He was recently voted religion section poster of the year 2009. He makes our list.
6, Olabowale: Joined June 04, 2006, Alhaji Olabowale is widely regarded as the father of Nairaland Muslims. Widely respected, even by non-Muslims, he has been on NL since 2006, actively doing what he knows how to do best: defending Islam and answering questions on Islam/Muslims. Few people will disagree withe me that Alhaji Olabs(as he has been nick-named) is a NL legend.
7, Dayokanu: A member of the 2006 set, dayokanu is better known for three things on NL. 1, Criticism of English football 2, Criticism of flamboyant pentecostal pastors 3, Criticism of Muslims for crises. Like him or loathe him, Dayokanu is one Nairalander one can hardly ignore. He has been consistent with this since 2006.
8, Spikedcylinder: Spikey, as she is fondly called on NL, is another lady worth recognising as NL clocks 5. To those in the hot politics, sports and religion sections, she might not be known, but she assumes an iconic stature in entertainment sections(Romance, Celebrity, Fashion, TV/Movie etc). To think she was my immediate junior in the varsity, but by far my senior on NL, having been here since 2005. Welcome Spikey into NL Hall of Fame.
9, Texazzpete: On NL since 2005, Texazzpete is only averagely known for the simple reason that he is not the controversial type, yet he is one Nairalander that has consistently contributed immensely to making NL what it is. He is more known in politics section.
10, Loma: Many people may not know him, simply because he chips in his contributions only to serious issues. He is not a 1000+ poster, but when he drops his comment, you see class written all over it. The Ife, Texas, Rice, Harvard, and MIT-trained Loma is an IT guru in one of the world's largest multinational oil corporations. He is one of the earliest Nairalanders, 2005 set. Welcome Loma to NL Hall of Fame.
11, 4Play:. On NL since 2006 and has been consistent. 4Play is another very versatile Nairalander that roams the Sports, politics and entertainment sections. He is no doubt a NL legend.
12, Afam Another early bird on NL, having been around since 2005, Afam has consistently made his mark debating politics on NL. Five years on, Afam is still active in that section, and he doesn't appear quitting soon.
13, Osisi: Like Tpia, many Nairalanders may not see eye to eye with her, but there is no denying her place in NL Hall of Fame. Having operated many usernames, we don't know when she joined NL, but it surely can't be after 2006. She is one of the most popular Nairalanders of all time.
14, iice: There are threads and threads about some Nairalanders, but no thread on any NL personality has ever reached 10 pages. Guess what? A thread on iice reached 63 pages. Check out ''iice: Can I meet you'' thread.  Although little may be known of her outside the entertainment sections, but there is no disputing the fact that iice is one of the NL legends, not only  because she has been around since 2006, but also because of her consistency over time, came rain, came sun.
15, Jakumo: One of the Top 5 most popular personalities in NL politics section since 2005, Jakumo is especially known for his trademark jaw-dropping bombasts, and he has been consistent with it five years. His peculiar style and consistency with it qualifies him as a legend on NL.
16. Sauron: Some people came, but after some time, they fizzled out. Some came, made impression within few months, but couldn't sustain the steam. Count Sauron out. Started as Jackal in 2006, but now operating under the username Sauron.  Sauron has stood the test of time in NL sports sections. Four years, and still waxing stronger. One of the 'area fathers' in NL sports section since 2006. Ignore them at your peril.
17, Thief of Hearts: TOH, as she is usually called, is another nairalander that has shaken and moved the forum since 2006. She may no longer be as active as used to be, but there is no denying the fact that TOH is a NL legend. She dwells more in entertainment sections.
18, Rokiatu. On NL since 2006 and  highly consistent, she may not be that popular outside of entertainment sections, but there is no denying the fact that she is a silent legend.
19, Otokx: On NL almost since inception in 2005 and still vibrantly present. Otokx runs the most consistent personal diary thread in the NL blogging section of Journals and Diary since 2006. He dwells more in the politics section and he is one of the most respected voices in that region.
20, Grafikdon: He is a 1 post per day Nairalnder, but with his popularity one will think he is among the 30-posts per day posters. Joined in 2006 and still strong in the land, Grafikdon is one of the pillars of the hot NL Politics Section.
21, Becomrich: It is just difficult to ignore Becomrich in the compilation of all-time greatest Nairalanders, much as one tries to. He may not be popular for the right reason, his style and passion are phenomenally legendary. He is one of a kind. The Canada-based Unilorin graduate of 'electricity engineering', has been on NL since at least 2006, under various IDs. If you want to have a good laugh on NL, tune to the becomrich.
22, Twinstaiye: Surprise inclusion, isn't it?! Yes, not all legends are popular. One of the oldest nairalanders, one of the earliest Nairanders having joined NL when NL was less 150 days old, one of the few Nairalanders that have their real pictures in their profile and one of the most mature Nairalanders. Twinstaiye is a silent legend on NL. He makes our list of 50 greatest Nairalanders of all time.
23, Nike4luv: One of the very few members of the early generation on NL that are still around. Most of her generation have left or no longer active, but she's still active and dropping comments, especially in the forum games section. Welcome Nike to NL Hall of fame.
24, Lalaboi: Lalaboi has been consistently present on NL since May 2006, and looks stronger by the day. His turf are forum games, Music and European football. He is also an active advocate of NL on facebook. Welcome lalaboi to NL Hall of Fame.
25, RichyBlack: One of the founding fathers of NL Politics section that is still around active, even though not as involved as he used to be before. He is an active contributor on International Politics discourse. He joined NL in 2006 and remains one of the leading voices in Nairaland Political discussions.
26. Orikinla: : Aside entertainment sections(which include sports and romamnce sections), Politics is another area that naturally attracts people. This is understandable given man's love for sparkles and glitz. But none of these hotbeds is Orikinla's turf. He does his things most in an area some people never even know exist on NL. Welcome Orikinla, the NL in-house literary guru who makes the NL Literary and Writing sections tick.
27. Dr Kitaun: Not sure when exactly he joined NL given his metamorphosis from different, though similar,  IDs. He is one of the 'area fathers' in Sports sections who you ignore at your own peril. He is at home both in European and Nigerian football, and he is one of the strong men that made NL sports section a hotbed for analysis.

28, Famous Funmi: Everything about her is controversial. Even her inclusion here will generate controversy, as many people will say such a personality that do more of fighting cannot be regarded as a legend. Where to put her is also generating controversy. Current or past legend?  But one thing that cannot be taken away from her is that she made NL interesting. She operated many usernames, Earthmama, Hotfunmi, Osun Amazon, Redhotchic, Pepperspray, and most famously, Deepzone. Some people are also convinced that she's behind the username Aloy-Emeka now, we leave that to speculators. It is difficult to complete the list of movers and shakers of NL in the last 5 years without including Funmi Deepzone. Welcome Funmi into our NL Hall of Fame.

THE SILVER CATEGORY: PAST LEGENDS

29, Hot-Angel: She was reputed to be one of the hottest Nairalanders iin her generation. Joined NL when the forum was just 103 days old and rocked the forum till 2007 before quitting NL. She made a single post in the whole of 2008, and no post at all in 2009, signifying the exit of one movers of NL in its early days.
30, Latoya: Between 2005-2008, there was a lady called Latoya on NL. Joined before NL was 4 months old, Latoya was most active in forum games and made NL tick in that golden generation.
31, Dejiolowe: Strange, isn't it? Yes, that was one of the guys that rocked NL in 2005 and 2006, when NL was in its formative years. He still buzzes in once in a while. He was a respected voice on NL at the time, and some of his contemporaries who are still around still mention his name with fondness.
32, Gamine: Although Gamine is still around, at least she was here till Feb 22, she is not as vibrant as she used to be between 2006-2008, she therefore fits more into this category. New generation Nairalanders may not know her, but she was one of the Nairalanders that made this place tick some two, three years ago.
33, MC Usman: He was on NL for just 10 months, between Feb to Nov 2008, but there was hardly any active nairalander that did not know him then. At a time when North bashing was the in-thing in NL politics (Biafra is the in-thing now. God save us!), he was practically the sole voice of the North on NL then. Based then in Monrovia, Liberia, MC Usman officially quit on November 30, 2009, when he was moved to Congo on official assignment. A thread was opened to bid him farewell.
34, Sistawoman: She joined in 2008 and took the romance sections, nay the whole of NL, by storm. Perhaps the most open Nairalander ever. She is no longer as active as she used to be and came here last in January.
35, Windywendy: So legendary that, two years after leaving, people spoke of her in glowing terms. She was on NL between 2006 and 2008 and her knowledge of stock market was legendary. Practically turned into stock market  consultant on NL
36, Layi: Layi shook NL in its formative years. He was here between 2005 and 2009, and alongside Dejiolowe, will be remembered for making NL hot in its first two years in particular.

THE BRONZE CATEGORY: EMERGING LEGENDS

37, Kobojunkie: Joined in 2007, and assumed a collosal stature in politics section within a short period of time. One of the few female that are very active in the ever hot politics section of NL, where she struts it out with men in debates and analyses. She has been absent on NL for a couple of months and we hope she will soon back. She is gradually working her into NL legends.
38, Aisha2: Another female Nairalander that rubs shoulders with men in the politics section. She is not known for fierce debates but contributes to issues. She is also known for her humanitarian services outside NL. She also frequents romance and other sections. She is gradually making her way into the list of all-time Nairaland legends. She joined in 2007
39, oyb: Oyb is a member of the 2007 class, my set. He is one of the most versatile Nairalanders, as he is always almost everywhere, except sports. He is another encyclopedia of Nairaland. His sense of recollection is phenomenal and he is better known for recollecting, referencing and digging out past threads when debating, and has exposed many inconsistent liars on NL. He is rising to join the class of NL all-time legends.
40, Ibime: A member of 2007 set, Ibime is no doubt one of the most brilliant nairalanders of this generation. His contributions are class. Only a few landers can match his knowledge of politics, economics, finance, sports and general issues, despite being a Mathematics graduate. His arguments are scientific, easily quoting relevant statistics while debating, especially politics and economy. Like Loma, he is another proof that Nigerian First Class grads are worth their salt.
41, Ajanlekoko: Joined NL in 2006 and would have been on the category of established legends on NL, but he did not become active until 2008. Ajanlekoko, alongside TKB and a few others, are the vein through which NL career section's blood flows. He gives useful insights on work management and people fall on one another to have his advice. Call him an in-house consultant, and you may not be wrong. He is also active in Politics and Barcelona-related threads in sports section.
42, TKB417: A member of 2007 set, it is very difficult to reconcile how the always-on-the-move investment banker juggles between his work and NL, given his ever-presence on NL. A die-hard Man U fan, few people will disagree with me that TKB deserves a spot in NL list of legends.
43, Biina:: Copy Ibime's citation up there and paste here. Change Ibime to Biina, 2007 to 2008, and maybe delete the last sentence, and you have Biina's citation. Welcome Biina to NL Hall of Fame.
44, DualCore: 7-post per day DualCore, formerly Sawyerrken, has been on NL since December 2007, and remains not only very active till today but also very useful. He may not be active in high tension sections like Politics, Sports, Religion and Romance, he assumes an iconic stature in Dating and Meeting zone as well as technology sections of phones, webmasters, computers etc. Dualcore is hereby inducted into our list of '50 Greatest Nairalanders of All Time' under the Silver category.
45, Ibkaye: With more than 15,000 posts , representing more than 85% of her post, in just one section, I don't think any other lander can beat her in number of posts in a single section. Yet, she's not a local champion as she is widely known in virtually all entertainment sections. She joined NL in 2007. Welcome Ibkaye into NL Hall of Fame.
46, MrCrackles: Joined NL in 2008 as Brash and within a very short period of time, became very famous forum-wide. He is not only the most consistent member of NL, he is also the most ubiquitous, with presence in virtually every thread. He is also one of the most popular Nairalanders. Many people have criticized his use of curse words, including his famous signature, 'It's Brashy you naughty person'.  He is not known for making long posts. For his consistency, unique style, and popularity, Brash deserves a place in NL Hall of Fame.
47, Ifyalways: Ify joined NL in 2007 and has made her mark on the forum with her quality contributions, especially in the Culture forum, where she was voted poster of the year 2009.
48, Clemcykul:: It is never by the number of posts, otherwise somebody like Loma would not have made the list, but with 24 posts per day, 90% of which are in one section(Jokes), Clemcykul deserves a look. Welcome Clemcykul to NL list of emerging legends.
49, Sagamite: A member of the 2008 set, Sagamite is one of the most versatile nairalanders, bestriding the Politics, Sports, Romance, and Forum info (Nairaland) sections. He is one of the few Nairalanders, nay Nigerians, that are very passionate about Nigerian football. He is also a grammar and style critic as evidenced in his thread on  Nigerian journalists.
50, Doyin13: Doyin joined NL two days after the forum clocked 2. March 12, 2007, to be precise and has not looked back since then, with activities usually in Forum games, politics, sports, and the entertainment sections.

FINAL NOTE:
By this, we have come to the final list of 50 men and women that made Nairaland tick in the last five years. Obviously, we could have omitted many deserving people, even as the inclusion of some people might even not be agreeable to some people, but like any other Social Sciences report, maximum objectivity may not be guaranteed. This may be the limitation of this work that took us 14 days(March 15-28, 2010). I thank those that brought my attention to some deserving people. Although I'm a Nairaland official, it should be noted that this is not official Nairaland position, but an independent effort by a member that wants to add value to Nairaland and makes this place more organized and coordinated.

NEXT is interview with the these men and women but before then, turn to page 4 to nominate your 5 GREATEST NAIRALANDERS of all time, preferably, but not necessarily, from our list.

Thanks

DK, TKB and Sleek,
Thanks for your input. Some of them are being reviewed already.
Ibime and Ajanlekoko are sure candidates for 'Emerging Legends' category.
As for the Ife/Texas, I know him too well, I was already considering him. Loma.

Most of the names you guys suggested were on already on 'likely' list.

Not being a frequent visitor to that side then, I don't know these guys. But I'll do a little research on them.

DK, TKB and Sleek,
Thanks for your input. Some of them are being reviewed already.
Ibime and Ajanlekoko are sure candidates for 'Emerging Legends' category.
As for the Ife/Texas/Chevron, I know him too well, I was already considering him. Loma.

Most of the names you guys suggested were on already on 'likely' list.

Jarus what about this guy that works in Texas ( had a first class degree from Ife) cant remember his ID again
i think hes with Chevron. add him to that list too
those are brilliant people and i'll always doff ma hat for them anytime. smart people

new Guys
Biina and Ibime

My thoughts exactly. I think biina deserves an award in the emerging leaders category for his robust contributions bordering on politics, nation's economies & the career section.

Its always a breath of fresh air hearing his opinions on issues and same for Ibime as well.

[s]You might be wandering who this is been on NL since 2007 but  i hardly post[/s],  cheesy

Is Becomrich a legend?
I don't know whether this guy can be regarded as a legend or not. He is one strange character that makes you laugh your ass off in politics section. He has been there since I think 2007. I want to ignore him, but finding it difficult.

Wont his inclusion ridicule my list?
