One of the apprehended men claimed to be a trader at Alaba International Market, Lagos state and was about to fly to Hong Kong with 49 ingested pellets of hard drugs when he was apprehended on October 21. He said he was promised N3.5 million and that he intended to use the money to purchase fairly used Tv, Printers and other items to sell in Nigeria.

Nigerian afrobeats star, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has revealed that he made his first one million naira at the age of 17 and handed all the money to his mother.


The 22-year-old musician disclosed this in recent interview with Z100 New York.

"The person who I knew needed it more was my mum. So, I handed everything I made to her. I know it was cool to drive around the city as a 17-year-old in a cool whip. In Sokoto State, bandits killed two young men after demanding N2 million in ransom.

The victims, Ibrahim Abubakar Rabah, a POS operator and graduate of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, were abducted along with two others, Mustapha Muhammad Rabah and Ummaru Ahmad, over a month ago in the state’s Rabah Local Government Area.


According to friends and family members who confirmed the tragedy on Facebook, the bandits killed Ibrahim and Mustapha after receiving a N2 million ransom payment.

Rise Networks, a Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Company, launched the “Run-Am” mobile app in Abuja on Friday to combat misinformation and verify fake news during the electioneering period.

Rise Networks Founder Mrs. Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji stated that the platform, which is available on Google Play, is a tool that will ensure information efficiency and accountability during the 2023 elections and beyond.

She stated that the project had received funding from the MacArthur Foundation and the Center for Information, Technology, and Development (CITAD).


According to her, the app has a news verification feature, an image verification feature, and a voter education feature to combat misinformation that could lead to election violence.

“During elections, fake news is used to create a lot of voter apathy, so you see a lot of news like 50 people have been killed in a particular local government.

“And because of that, people who have their PVCs will not want to come out to vote because they are afraid.

“But when you find out, you will see that that information is not true but when voters do not turn up, that is when it will be easy for them to rig the elections.

“And those are the kind of problems the Run-Am App intend to solve,” she said.

She added that the organisation was working to ensure that the App is run in our local languages and pidgin English, for easy accessibility of all Nigerians.

Mr Victor Aluko, Director, Voter Education and Publicity, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appreciated the company for its efforts at combating fake news that may undermine the electoral processes in the country.


“We are going into a serious elections which will be contested by powerful individuals and political parties and you will see a situation where the electoral process will be pulled in various directions.

“When we have that, you will see a lot of combination of fake news, misinformation and disinformation and we are looking at how we can manage our results to make sure that people don’t misinform Nigerians.

“So when we have this type of App, from reputable organisations like this, we tend to identify with them and express our happiness that this is coming from a Nigerian organisation,” he said.

For his part, Mr Dayo Olaide, Deputy Country Director, MacArthur Foundation Africa Office, added that democracy had continued to be faced with global threats across the globe.

He added that to save the country’s democracy, Nigerians must begin to pay more attention to electoral accountability and call out those who make inflammatory statements and spread fake news.

“As we launch the App today, we will need our citizens that to go beyond exposing those misinformation but begin to demand that those who are driving this type of attack against our democracy are brought to book.

“That responsibility is not only that of INEC, it is a shared responsibility, the government, citizens and also the media must hold all actors accountable for their actions,” he added.(NAN)

arrested for stabbing her senior rival, Precious, to death few minutes after sleeping with their husband
According to The Nation, the incident happened on
February 4, at their residence in Idogun camp, Ode-Irele, Ondo State. Rebecca was said to have been jealous that her husband left her in bed during an ongoing sex session to make love to the senior wife.
It was gathered that both women lived in a room and a parlour apartment with their husband.

A fracas was said to have ensued between them when late Precious stepped out of the room where she slept with their husband.

Rebecca was subsequently arrested and arraigned on a one count charge of murder before an Akure Magistrates' Court.
Meanwhile, the suspect said it wasn't her intention to kill the senior wife.
According to her: "I came to Ondo State in January, 2022 and we were leaving in the same house. I am a farmer and we have been relating together in harmony alongside the deceased. On that fateful day, my husband was earlier with me in the living room but had to excuse himself on a pretext that we were not free to continue with our love making.

The government in Kano has approved 40 million nairas for the production of the next calendar of Islamic years by the state sharia commission.
Information Commissioner Muhammed Garba said in a statement on Sunday that the decision was taken at the meeting of the state’s executive council, NAN reports.

According to him, the project will involve the production and printing of the calendar, which will involve the services of Islamic scholars with extensive knowledge of astronomy and other vital issues related to the valuation of Islamic fees.

It is also as he said that the state will spend 137 billion Naira on the supply of clean water in Gaya to fight cholera and meet other challenges.

The commissioner said the money would be spent on restoring the regional water supply system of Wudil, Gaya town, and the surrounding area; construction of six solar-powered boreholes and 30 manual pump boreholes.

He added that the money would also cover the costs of a hygiene awareness program in the region.

He said 82 million Naira was earmarked for large capacity generators for the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase University Hospital.

The Commissioner said that part of the money would be spent on the general renovation of the secretariat of the Council of Scientific and Technical Schools.

The cost of RMK College of Arts and Remedial Studies; TudunWada, the Kano State College of Education and Remedial Studies and the training of 220 youth selected from 44 local governments would also be housed.

Gunmen have kidnapped Ibrahim Garba Musa, the permanent secretary in Niger’s ministry of transportation.
He was abducted in the early hours of Saturday, October 2, alongside his son in the Zungeru area of the state, where they had gone to for a wedding ceremony.

Mary Noel-Berje, chief press secretary to Abubakar Sani Bello, governor of the state, confirmed the incident.

She said the governor also "decried the barbaric and atrocious acts of bandits in Shiroro and Munya Local Government Areas recently, where many villagers were slaughtered, burnt and some kidnapped".

His abduction comes barely two months after Sani Idris, the state’s commissioner for information, was abducted by suspected bandits.
