Evboesi:
if any body is talking, a man from a tribe that was 34,000 in 1952 should not be talking about size. Among all Edoid groups, Itsekiri would only be mate with Uneme and Okpamheri. In that very year Etsako was 88 thousand, Esan was 180,000. Even Owan was 48 thousand. Bini was 203,000 in population in that year. Isoko was 74,000.

In 1963, when the Nigeria factor came into play, itsekiri being an affiliate of a major group rose 300% on paper to 100,000 while other substantially bigger minority group with no affiliation to any major group for the 11 years did not give birth, did not impregnate their wives. Even when they get pregnant, they take them for abortion. And as such their population rose 20% others 50% greatly quickly defying the transparent census order that has been on board from 1921.

We know these things we are not dumb, the Edos are arguably the most enlightened tribe in the southern part of Nigeria. In Edo and Delta state, aside uneme and maybe Okpamheri, the Itsekiris are definitely the smallest tribe in the whole of the bendel region. The Binis were five times bigger than you guys in 1952, we are still over four times today. We are not your mate in whatever statistics. Itsekiris would just be the size of Binis from Orhiowmon home and abroad

Absolute shame!

Urhobo is one of the languages that have no excuse for dying out.

It's the attitude of the people who should be speaking it that actually completes the clown show. There's a derogation (I think they don't know it is) term urhobo people in warri who can't speak their language call their hinterland brothers who are able to speak.
Urhobo language would have easily become a lingua franca in much of Delta state by virtue of the number of urban areas it is supposed to be spoken, if only they actually conversed in it.

. Well, you aren't far from the truth..... That has been like a bone in our throats.... the truth is that those of us who were born and bred in Ughelli can't really speak urhobo fluently apart from few families that made it a compulsory thing...... I've alot of friends who can't understand it even tho they are from here too...But that doesn't mean you should write it off so quickly..We have neighboring communities around that constitute ughelli as a town.. Communities such as Afiesere, otovwodo, Ekiugbo and the rest..Those are the communities that speak and understand urhobo well...... Ughelli is just like a town that comprises of different tribes, tho it's an urhobo town...

It's really disappointing tbh but the excuse of having other tribes in a town as the reason for non speaking of tribal languages doesn't hold water. I have stayed in parts of Lagos where Yoruba do not have a majority but still yet I picked up the language against my wish. If you asked me that would have presented urhobo people with an opportunity to spread their culture amongst residents from other tribes as language is the most important aspect of a people and their culture.
I hope there are urgent actions in place to tackle this because at this extent urhobo despite being the largest population in Delta state will be the first language to die out in the state

You guys need to do something about urhobo language because it's seriously dieing out. I was at ughelli sometime last year and as big the town is. I did not for once hear anybody speak urhobo not even in that very busy market close to otovwodo where a good number of the traders are urhobo themselves, same scenario is unthinkable in Lagos even with it's very cosmopolitan nature.
A lot of urhobo people born in urhoboland particularly around sapele, uvwie, warri and ughelli are unable to speak their language

Better leave igbo out of your unwarranted outburst. I only stated the fact that results from both isoko lgas far outnumber all those of ijaw(3) plus the two in warri north and south west in which you share with the itsekiris in the presidential election
Warri north lga where egbema are a minority to the itsekiris had only 10k+ votes while ozoro township 1/9 clans in isoko North had about 8k votes. You should bring variable facts and stop with unnecessary tantrums bro.
What township in Delta state aside ijaw lands do ijaw people outnumber isoko people? Definitely not anywhere in the entire Delta central or even ndokwa/ukwani communities.

On what basis would DSP win Ethiope West?
An area that is dominated by PDP since 1999?
And to think this LGA was won by Ibori's daughter and Sen Amori with good margin turned out in the governorship election to be a tight contest between Sherrif and Agege... even Achoja of APC won the state assembly seat ahead of Onogba.
Now this is it Losing heavily in Oghara , Ibori's homestead is enough reason to tell you where he pitched his tent.
There was even a unit that Agege scored 600plus votes as against 6 votes for PDP in Oghara which is claimed to be Ibori's polling unit.
The entire Warri south results was cancelled which gave Joel victory. I didn't see the breakdown of results but informal report was that Joel only won in Isoko south.

Isoko North and south produced more votes than all 3 ijaw lgas of burutu,Patani, bomadi and the jointly owned ijaw and itsekiri lgas of warri north and south west all combined in the last presidential/ senatorial election partly thanks to Bvas which contained the unrealistic riverine votes and so a significant win in either is a big deal. Even the warri south is very cosmopolitan so I don't think any one single person would have won with an insane margin

BAT/APC performed poorly in this election. They struggled everywhere. The results in Lagos was highly manipulated no doubt. I wasn't impressed with the votes from SE. Don't you think they could have given LP the needed boost. A rerun with just LP and APC would have been in favour of LP.

As for the GBV guy, he purely lost. The violence and Tribal sentiments employed by the leading party wasn't even necessary. Just a stain on Sanwo-Olu's victory. The guy messed up a great chance and opportunity to govern one of Nigeria's most influential state. I expected more from an adult who wants to lead in a country like Nigeria. Somethings said weren't necessary... Just unnecessary. I'm pissed he wasted the party's ticket and i can bet that he won't win any election in SW with what they have against him. JIMI didn't get the chance GBV got. APC will always play the tribal card in Lagos but you don't give them reason to use it against you. Who even advised that guy ?

I thought the Ijebus were still indigenous to Lagos? Abeg na their matter be that. Nigeria is a very tribalistic country and I've gotten used to this fact.

Well, in my objective view, there was a great improvement in this election and it is by far one of the best conducted so far by the INEC. The BVAs reduced inflated votes everywhere. Look at what Borno state gave this year Vs what they have given in previous years. The KKK's too didn't give much. I wasn't impressed with the live transmission of results. What could probably prevent agents from uploading results immediately it was collated. Naija self.

They deliberately reduced votes in opposition strong hold, in my polling unit they only brought one Bvas machine as opposed to two according to them. They brought the one containing surname from A-K (of this category Yoruba names are way more) while that of L-Z(more igbo) was unavailable until 5 till they left, over half disenfranchised plus over 100 people one the queue were not allowed to vote. The area in question was a pdp stronghold, LP still won the presidential, I can imagine same tactics was used in SE. There was a polling unit this Chude guy posted on Twitter with over a thousand people on queue in onitcha but only 168 voted, such nonsense doesn't happen up north

Jimi performed better than GRV and it was actually close. No matter what you do, Lagos APC will always term the opposition igbos so as to whip up tribal sentiment. It's going to implode one day

Aworis are the main indigenous subgroup in Lagos occupying the major areas, ijebus in Lagos are around ikorodu and Epe. Sanwo and his deputy are both from Ogun. Indigenous Lagosians are still a small dominated Minority in their own state thanks to Tinubu

Tinubu bought the entire Inec and I still think the election was a scam, just look at what happened in Adamawa state. Figures from the kkk was still the highest thanks to underage voting. Ine need to do better

He lost nevertheless. If not for tribal sentiments he wouldn't have got above 200k votes. But generally, this election was far better than previous elections if we are to be sincere.

We saw how Sanwo-Olu and APC were shaken after their almighty "Godfather" lost the state. If not that the GVR guy was childish and careless at 40, I would have bet my balls that Sanwo-Olu wouldn't have won.

If LP fields better guber candidate next time, they might even snatch Lagos from APC.

E-voting is long overdue. We risked our lives coming out to vote, especially those of us in Delta, Rivers, Lagos. The gubernatorial here was disastrous. My unit was empty because of fear of electoral violence.

E-voting will prevent these many controversies about manipulated results. It will also put many on their toes.

With BAT as the new president, will there be any improvements? Only time can tell.

His loosing Lagos was a calculated move to create the impression of a Free and fair election which some of you seem to have bought. Tinubu lost heavily throughout Lagos with the exception of ikorodu,Badagry and Epe

The only good thing about this election was that BVAS was able to reduce unrealistic vote from certain areas especially those fishing villages in the Niger Delta that churns out outrageous figures. Figures from Delta south are still a shock to me but if it would not be uniformly applied nationwide then it's a disservice to everyone. Some places in the north didn't apply it plus child voters

Gbadebo only lost Lagos due to tribal sentiment, it was forking hell on election day, non Yorubas were hurled with insults and violence, they forking had canes for non Yoruba voters in my polling unit. Tinubu's Apc has destroyed Lagos with tribalism and it's crazy how he was even able to amass any iota of votes in the SS because his minions will not spare us in their tribal madness against the igbos. Even if Gbadebo had said what was supposedly acceptable he would have lost, what did Jimi Agbaje do for them to label him jimichukwu in 2015? The crazy thing is that it's aboriginal Lagosians that are being marginalized but they don't seem to mind as they have fallen for Tinubu's tribal politics. Sanwo olu and his deputy are ijebu from Ogun state but Awori people in Ogun state will never have a chance to govern Ogun also.

I really wish obi would get in or even if he tries again, he would have gotten better electoral numbers, it's really had for us to get another person that would be accountable to us, on the issue of e voting, I really don't see why we shouldn't, it's not like we're pioneering anything, we're just going to copy what others have done. I almost cried when I saw a thread by a southie on NL here about how they get election results in real time enabled by E voting

It's like okowa now has a death grip on Delta state

If this election was to be conducted in 2003, there's no way BAT would loose Lagos and PDP, Delta.

Politics / Re: UK LAW FIRM: Peter Gregory Obi’s Arrest - By Walter Bush (TKNews) by darfay: 9:09am On Apr 13, 2023
accordadoga27:
On April 7, 2023, in a daring heist that shocked the world, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party named Peter Gregory Obi from Nigeria traveled all the way to the United Kingdom with a cunning plan to steal from the British Prime Minister. Obi was known for his masterful thievery skills, and he set his sights on the Prime Minister’s mandate and was determined to get it.

With meticulous planning and stealth, Obi managed to infiltrate the Prime Minister's residence and bypassed top-notch security measures.

However, Obi's luck ran out as he was caught by the United Kingdom government. He was swiftly arrested and charged with attempted theft. The news of the audacious theft attempt spread like wildfire, both in the UK and Nigeria, and Obi's name became infamous.

Obi's trial was swift, and he was found guilty of attempted theft. He was sentenced to three days in jail. However, what happened next surprised everyone.

During Obi's short time in jail, a series of unforeseen events unfolded. It was revealed that there was commotion within the members of his political party (Labour Party) in Nigeria.

After an intensive investigation, it was discovered that a letter was written by a former president of Nigeria claiming that Obi had been innocent all along. The letter explained that Obi's intentions were not to steal the Prime Minister’s mandate, but to seek an audience with the Prime Minister to discuss pressing matters concerning Nigeria.

The surprising turn of events caught widespread attention, and public opinion shifted in Obi's favor. A petition was launched, calling for Obi's pardon, citing his good intentions.

In an unprecedented move, the Prime Minister himself intervened and granted Obi a pardon just three days after his arrest. Obi was released from jail and flew back to Nigeria as a free man.

His story became viral, with media outlets covering the intriguing tale of a man who traveled across continents to steal a Prime Minister’s mandate.

In the end, Obi's story was a tale of unexpected twists and turns, showing that truth can be stranger than fiction. It demonstrated the power of forgiveness and the complexity of human intentions. Obi's name would forever be remembered in both Nigeria and the UK as the man who attempted to steal the mandate from the Prime Minister but was later pardoned and became a symbol of courage and advocacy.

Aren't you too old for this?

Thank you OP. I'm happy about the raised points, because, as per what obtains in this election period generally, it's quite relatable. Please let me add a buttress.

Dear LPers, Igbos, these three points are similar to those that caused loss of LP in Lagos on March 17th, not necessarily the 'Yoruba are tribalistic and they won't vote their own' mantra nor the violence.

Also points 1 and 3 are major cause of Tinubu's election, and less but significant point 2, on 25th Feb.

On point 1: Going forward, you people will learn to arrest your careless talk cos it gets noone anywhere. Even Trump lost reelection for it. It's inflammatory and inciteful. GRV shouldn't go about burning bridges, alongside Obidients, with mouths. No insult or abuse and media manipulation Tinubu and S'Olu didn't attract from you lot simply for exercising their right to be voted for. Others have opinions and yours mustn't win always. It portrays an emotional demeanor devoid of logic and respect for others. If it's about detribalized administration, these men had Igbos and other tribes in the cabinet, so it's hard to see why they attract that much hate from you and not other tribes - really hard!

2. If everyone who never lived in Nigeria and doesn't feed on propaganda, but facts, stats, contributions, numbers, and competence were to vote in these elections, at least Tinubu or S'Olu would attract 75% of the world voters because they'll prefer logic to emotions, hearsay. Tinubu and S'Olu proved themselves extremely worthy during their tenure. There's a reason Lagos remains soaring. The stats are there for anyone. The fact people can even easily make evidences off the former men's work is a strong backing. Obi and GRV couldn't just fly. Soludo had great stats/numbers as CBN g'nor. He was about the best thing to the organization. Umahi too should make a great president.

3. Obi's Anambra growth, if any, was snaily. Obi has to be one of most incompetent g'nors in Nigeria's history. He was 8-year Anambra governor, doctors strike, Anambra's ASUU lecturer strike, >400 school fees increase, poor state investment policies, involving state's affairs into religion's, dishing out needless wrong stats, etc. These can't be said of Tinubu. If incompetency has a synonym, let it be replaced with Peter Obi.

STFU, people were attacked in my pu in Lagos for not being Yoruba, our neighbours from Kwara and Abeokuta were telling us to go back to our villages just because we wanted to vote a Yoruba. Stop gaslighting people, if we can pay taxes in Lagos then we can vote and support whoever we damn please without intimidation. Stop using igbos and non Yorubas as instrument of separation and a ploy to win elections. You always played the Igbo card on opposition parties in Lagos from pdp right from 2003 to 2023.. this division you're (APC) sowing amongst neighbors in Lagos would morph into a full blown communal crisis one day

Umahi would make a good president until he decides to run, you'll remember he's omo Igbo and start this madness all over again.

The electoral acts and BVAS was truly effective. Look at the votes Borno gave this year then compare to previous elections.

Delta South normally give a greater turnout but this election, the turnout was around 10-15% in some Ijaw and Itsekiri LGAs.

PDP have a tough fight to put in the gubernatorial election since the magic votes are begining to disappear.

I told you that the populations of the Isokos is intimidating. Head to head, there is no way Itsekiri would get more votes than them. Even in this election, many still voted Ejele but they came out victorious.

Have you seen the votes Delta Central gave LP? Real voting strength talking now.

I don't think it was just about turn out alone, I believe we outnumber the ijaw and itsekiri people in that zone. Even majority of the newly registered voters were from the isoko area. I found it surprising that both isoko lgas produced more votes than all other lga in the senatorial district combined with the exclusion of warri south because of it's nature as a cosmopolitan and multi tribal demography
With that being said I don't know how the Apc guy won the zone if he was loosing his home base/isoko area albeit marginally or did he win convincingly in warri south because I can't get my hands on the senatorial results by lga

I still believe BAT will take Lagos but I've adjusted my margin to meet with the present realities. Lagos is indeed a tough battle between LP & APC. Most results released are traditional PDP Strongholds. So it is rather too early to call. LP will come second in all SW state. A very big addition to Obi's emergence.

Wike is a politician. His anger was quit understandable but I was surprised with the way he is pulling support for BAT. He knew about the Obi wave but still went ahead to give BAT the needed boost to get the seat. He could have supported OBI and deprived PDP from getting anything from the state. A win win.

Amongst the Edoid groups, Bini was the only sub-tribe to build a flourishing empire, the rest were pretty republican. So it is understandable why they all try to establish some links with Bini.

It could be possible that Isoko and Urhobo ancestors both formed Okpe. My own clan pays homage to Isoko and Olomu. There was a lot of internal migration between Urhobo and Isoko. I only find it strange that all of a sudden, they all begin to forg an ancestral link with Bini while dismissing their internal origins.

As it is, we can't know the true origin of the Edoid people. We are only certain it is somewhere in Edo.

There is no doubt in my mind that these people are the closest people to the Urhobos and may be closer to them than the Isokos except for language

Extensive linguistics study still needs to be carried out on the origin of edoid people, their links and relationship between groups . I don't know much about Edo North and I'm aware they call God oghena which awfully similar to ours. The other day I got to find out that the ruler of weppa wanno people of Agenebode is called okumagbe which could be translated as unifier most like from the root word okugbe which is isoko for unity.

The Benin migration story is more palatable, reason for it's widespread. Recently, some Urhobos are trying to establish a non-existent link with Ife. I don't know why few Okpe historian would say Okpe ancestors migrated from Ile-Ife when we can easily trace their origins to Olomu. Infact Okpe quarters in Olomu is still standing till this very day.

I agree with you that the Ijaws came after Olomu has been established as an Urhobo community. Or maybe our Urhobo ancestors colonized several neighbouring Ijaw communities to form what is today the larger Olomu kingdom.

Also, I believe Olomu is one of the oldest Urhobo enclave. There is a lot we need to dig about the origins of the Urhobo/Isoko. I know the core is somewhere in Edo, but the recent Benin migration stories look so "falsetified." The Urhobo/Isoko ancestors left their initial terrain atleast 800years before anything Benin was formed. A lot of internal migration happened between Urhobo and Isoko, so trying to pin our whole existence on Benin is a joke taken too far.

@Bolded, are you sure there is a satellite community in Olomoro called Ikiagbodo? If true, we can't really dismiss the strong link between Urhobo/Isoko and Ijaw. The Olomu rulling house still make references to Ijaw till this very day. Our ancestors really did push their boundaries. Look at how they penetrated Ndokwa and western Ijaw terrains. And yes, Kiagbodo shares border with Urhobo.

I don't really subscribe to the Edo North migration history mostly because some of the groups in the zone are too recent to birth our ancestors. I believe that the ancestors of Urhobo/Isoko, Esan and Bini lived together as one in a republican society before the great migration.

Prof Ekeh did lots of research on Urhobo as a proto-edoid group. He was one of the few Urhobo historian who never subscribed entirely to the Bini migratory story.

There was a colonial document where the Erowha people of isoko south claimed to have never migrated from anywhere and were aboriginal to their current location (their esoteric speech might corroborate that) but they've suddenly jumped on the bandwagon of Benin migrants not to be out done by their neighbors.
Ife ties with okpe is laughable at best and might be a way to assert a distinct identity. I have always heard isoko people say that okpe people migrated from okpe isoko but again we cannot know for sure if the authenticity of these claims and yes ikiagbodo is one of the villages of olomoro clan

I hear they're currently protesting in warri, please y'all should stay safe

Are you by any chance from Olomoro? Olomoro is a direct descendants from Olomu and till date they maintain a healthy relationship. The Ohworode is always present in every event and vise versa.

The Ijaws were mainly riverine people. I believe they met few Urhobo speaking people and over the years lost touch of their mother tongue. The Olomoro migration happened decades after Olomu has been established and the Urhobo dialects well spoken. Agbon and Okpe had ancestors from Olomu as well.

Kiagbodo, another Ijaw enclave almost fell to Urhobo. It took the conscious effort of several Ijaw bodies to revive the fading Ijaw influences in modern times.

The ruling house in Olomu is directly Ijaw reason for the OGONI title.

While the core of the Urhobo people is Edo, the Urhobos had ancestors from other Groups mostly Ijaws who we bordered on almost all front.

We barely have any recorded history, so it is really hard to trace our roots. Was having this debate days back about the Oba and Ogie title. If our ancestors had atleast kept some records, we won't even debate somethings.

Yes that's were I'm from, I'm fully aware of the deep relationship both communities continue to share even though there are some element who are trying to rewrite that part of our history by opting for a more fashionable migration from Benin but the evidence is not really in their favour. I also believe the migration would have happened after olomu was established as an urhobo community if not we would have retained some element of both languages in our dialect, their is also a possibility of acculturation, I find it odd that neighboring communities like enwhe with a supposed igbo migration has a dialect more closer to urhobo than ours that actually migrated from that axis, infact "come" in enwhe is "Yare" and not Nyanze

I'm vaguely aware of kiagbodo, is it close to olomu?I knew they were are bilingual ijaw people. Plus one of the satellite communities/villages of olomoro is ikiagbodo. I think colonization might have put an end to an outward(west/east) migration of urhobo (of ughelli) and isoko people as evidenced by bilingual communities like kiagbodo and some ndokwa clans ibedeni ,ashaka and Ase that are bilingual

Our ancestors kept records in their own way albeit inefficient, they told folklores which in itself Forms the bulk of what we know about our past. I partially followed that argument on ogie/oba debate, very informative tbh. I once came across a scholarly report that postulated that edoid people migrated from edo North. I don't know how factual it is but of the edoid languages north of sapele, I hear Esan is the most intelligible with ours.

Just like the Igbos, the Urhobos were republican. During precolonial times, there was never any Urhobo clan that was under the rulership of an external government. Urhobo clans were fiercely independent and maintained autonomouship.

Although they were mostly republican, some Urhobo kingdoms were already in existence long before the formation of the Bini Empire. Ughelli kingdom for example existed long before Oba Eweka established a new kingdom.

Modern day Urhobo Kingdoms represent their clans and each with their origins. Olomu Kingdom for example is blend of Urhobo and Ijaw. The ancestors who formed the kingdom were Ijaw who blended with the Urhobo aboriginals.

I always thought they were primarily of Benin origin. My community in isoko migrated from that axis, In fact the chief deity of the community was/is ogwha- olomu or something like that.
This might mean that the ijaw components might either have been long assimilated before the migration or were later migrant as both element should have been retained in our dialect at least fractionally. We can't really know our African history with certainty sha
