A functioning skill acquisition centre training about 5000 youths currently. A new broadcasting House (BCA) building, a new JAAC, ASUBEB and Chieftancy affairs complex in Umuahia, A newly built ministry of Justice building in Umuahia, about 250 primary health care centres across the state, partnering with World bank to build Community Social Development program projects as demanded by communities in Abia State, A new House of Assembly Administrative and constituency complex within the HOA premises. A new ASEPA building, ASEPA is currently occupying a rented building, built &commissioned the Amaokwe housing Estate in Umuahia, Isieke, Amaudo and Aso small and medium income housing estates are currently ongoing in Umuahia, massive investment in the environmental sector...Opening up drains in Aba & Umuahia, provision of refuse dump equipment & Trucks etc. The govt has built numerous rural and urban roads in Isukwuato, Ohafia, Bende Umunneochi, Umuahia, Ikwu ano, Isi ala Ngwa etc including the 17 major Aba city roads recently embarked upon...Brass, Milverton, Ngwa Road, Faulks Road, Geometric, Ama Ogbonna, etc. All these are verifiable in addition to massive investment on security of lives and property. ABSG invested over 1.5 billion to evacuate power (electricity) from the Ohiya sub power station after the federal govt built but abandoned it. Power supply has improved in Umuahia and environs leading to massive boost in the small and medium scale enterprises sector. Umuahia, the capital city doesn't get dark at night as a result of the massive investment on street light project. Remember security globally requires huge investment and for Abia State to be known currently as a safe zone, massive investment is being invested to sustain the achievement made so far on security. All these and many more doesn't stop Abia State from having her challenges as a State but the good news is that those developmental challenges are being tackled with the funds available to the State without borrowing.

TODAY September 29, some Nigerians will be conferred with the National Honour Award by President Goodluck Jonathan at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. Among the awardees are President Jonathan’s steward, a taxi driver, a traffic warden and the Abia State governor, Chief Theodore Orji.
In the recent past many have criticised the criteria for the selection of the awardees, while others believe that it is in order considering that it is a standard practice globally.
Beside, it is a known fact that Nigeria is a fertile ground for undue armchair criticisms, especially when it involves the Presidency and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. One remarkable thing about this year’s list of awardees is that it is all encompassing and qualitative given the men and women of integrity on parade.
For some of the awardees, the award is long overdue, considering their track records in public service and the private sector over the years. But many believe that the award is better late than never as it is obvious that these awardees waited patiently to be fished out, instead of pushing for the recognition.
For instance, Chief Theodore Orji, before becoming the governor of Abia State in 2007 had paid his dues in the public service as a seasoned administrator. He is reputed to have distinguished himself while serving with the National Electoral Commission, NECON(now the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC), with the positive impact he made said to have remained a reference point in the Commission till date.
After his graduation from the prestigious University of Ibadan in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language, Gov. Orji opted for civil service job, instead of the white collar job that was in vogue then. His over two decades career in the service is remarkable or its unblemished record.
On assuming office as governor in 2007, his government was faced with enormous infrastructural, political and social challenges. But he was undeterred by the enormity of the challenges. Despite initial political interferences and stumbling blocks orchestrated by his predecessor, Gov. Orji trudged on till the state was liberated from a godfather who was holding sway then. Since then, Orji’s government has been in a hurry to regain lost ground.
Every sector of the state economy is receiving steadily government’s attention. Several road projects have been completed, while others are ongoing. The New Umuahia known as Ogurube Layout is now a huge construction site. At the site is a completed workers Secretariat, a five-star international conference centre nearing completion.
Also adjacent to it is a new modern Government House and several other edifices. Also at Ubani Ibeku is a modern market of international standard with all the needed facilities. The State that was at a time under the siege of kidnappers is today one of the most secured and peaceful state in the country.
The commercial city of Aba for the first time since 1999 has witnessed government’s intervention in road rehabilitation, security and waste disposal. The education sector has also been doing well with the State emerging as the second overall best in the country in WAEC results in the last two years.
In recognition of his loyalty, humility and commitment to good governance, Governor Orji was appointed the South East Caucus Leader of the PDP. He is also today the Chairman, South East Governors Forum. Since assuming these positions, Gov. Orji has repositioned the party in the zone ahead of the 2015 polls. He has taken the zone to the mainstream politics that is favourable for the zone. In the just concluded National Conference, Gov. Orji rallied his colleagues to support and spur delegates from the zone to canvass for issues of national interest that will address the zone’s political problems. That is how it was agreed at the Conference that one additional state should be created out of the zone.
Particularly remarkable is the fact that his government has not borrowed money from any financial institution to finance the numerous projects he has executed.
So the National Honour Award on him can only be regarded as befitting and well-deserved. The award also rubbishes the current campaign of falsehood being propagated against him by his ahead the 2015 polls. The award is an indication that falsehood, no matter how contrived, cannot triumph over fact. With the award, Gov. Orji’s government and people of the State have been vindicated.

The governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji, has challenged the former governor of the state, Orji Uzor Kalu, to a full blown debate after which they will go for essay writing to tell the people of the state and the country what they have done for their people while in office.
The challenge was thrown to the former governor by the Special Adviser to Governor Orji on politics, Chief Amah Abraham Nnanna, in Umuahia in a chat. The governor’s aide said the media war declared against the governor by the former governor needs to be addressed once and for all.
Nnanna, who served Kalu some years ago in the same capacity, said there is no basis for comparison between the two, stressing that the things the present governor has done are there for all to see while the former governor has nothing to show for the eight years he was in charge.
He explained that after the oral television debate, the two political leaders would also go for an essay where they will put down their achievements for posterity, adding that written documents would serve as a reference point for the future generation.
The political adviser said from the last administration to the present, there are many differences like politicians in the state are now one united family unlike before when there were Abuja-based politicians and home based ones.
“Before now, there was acrimony within the politics of the state so much so that if you talk to an Abia politician based in Abuja who we used to call Talibans, you stand the chance of losing your appointment, but now it is no longer so.”
On those who want to take over from the incumbent governor, Amah said all the governorship aspirants in the state have been busy sharing money, without letting the electorate know what they will do as governor.

The African Development Bank (AFDB) has entered into an integrated project partnership with Abia State Government to tackle rural roads, erosion menace and waste management in the two Abia cities of Umuahia and Aba .
The Country Representative of the bank, Dr.Usmane Dore, stated this during the bank's preliminary visit to the state to see things.
He pledged the bank's partnership to the state, pointing out that Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, was one of the first governor's to reach out to the bank for assistance.
According to him, the AFDB has a tradition of partnering with states adding that rural roads in the two cities will be strategically rehabilitated and updated.
To that end, he said that the bank’s rapid assessment team has been sent to the state for assessment and implored the state to cooperate with the team to fast track the project.
Receiving the team led by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Governor Orji assured that the state will cooperate with the bank as it is ready to abide by the rules as well as contribute its quota to the project.
He stated that the perennial problem of rural roads , erosion and waste management has continued to plague Aba despite the huge sums of money being sunk into the city by the state government to address the problems.
The Governor said there was need for an external body like the AFDDB to assist the state as the problems were beyond its scope and thanked the federal government for the interest it has shown to Abia State.
Earlier, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating minister of the Economy, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala said the the objective of the visit is that the ADB has agreed to work with Abia State and bring some more benefits, maintaining that it is designed to cement the Governor's legacies in the state

The first son of Gov. Theodore Orji of Abia State, Chinedu Orji, an engineer, has sued The Sun Newspapers Limited, owned by a former Governor of the State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, claiming N5bn damages for calling him “a terrorist.”

Briefing journalists on Thursday in Umuahia, a member of the legal team for Orji’s son, Chief Chukwunyere Nwabuko, said the libellous publication was contained on page 21 of the March 10, 2014 edition of The Sun Newspapers, which reads that, “it is not a secret affair as his terrorist activities in the state are fully documented.”

The counsel said the former governor had been using his media outfit to publish malicious and libellous articles against Orji as well as “his son, who does not even hold any position in government.”

He gave the suit number of the case filled at Abia State High Court holding at Ohafia as HOH/5/2014, adding that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Livy Uzorukwu, is the lead council of Orji’s legal team.

The three-point claims by the plaintiff include, “The sum of N5bn as damages for libel; an unreserved apology to be published in at least three editions of the Daily Sun Newspapers; and an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, their agents, privies, servants and associates from further writing, printing and publishing of the said libellous matter or a similar one against the claimant.”

Nwabuko further said that the Presiding Judge, Justice Anthony Chioma, had already granted an order for the defendant to be served out of jurisdiction.

The matter will come up for hearing on September 22.

Dimgba Igwe the man who is the brain behind Kalu Leadership Series (KLS) published weekly in SUN Newspapers for illiterate Orji Uzor Kalu has died in mysterious circumstances in Lagos few days after having heated argument with his employer Orji Uzor Kalu.

Dimgba, who until his death was the Vice Chairman of SUN newspapers was said to have been knocked down by a hit and run driver near his house. Efforts made to save his life shortly after the unfortunate incident was abortive.

Dimgas death is coming less than three months when his colleague The Managing Editor (Northern Operations) of Orji Uzor Kalus New Telegraph Malam Suleiman Bisalla died in the blast that hit a shopping mall in Abuja. Suliemans body was charred but not in any form resembling that of a bomb blast. His body did not look like he was hit even by a stray bullet. His family members are still fingering Orji Uzor kalu.

An eye witness account revealed that Dimgbas deaths was basically an assassination as the vehicle that hit Dimgba was unmarked, appeared on tinted glasses and went straight to hit Dimgba who was engaged in his routine morning exercise. The way and manner Dimgba was hit would convince one that he was marked for death by enemies. It would not be an accident because he was running on the same road with his friend who was even the more exposed to traffic than Dimgba. Again, the route where he was killed is a domestic route with less traffic.

A close aide of the deceased who spoke to Eastern Voice on condition of anonymity also revealed that Dimgba had confronted Orji Uzor Kalu two days earlier; in respect of arrears of eight months’ salary owed him (Dimgba). Dimgba informed Orji Uzor Kalu that he was facing deep frustration and risked having his children not returning to school as he had no money.

Reacting to Dimbgas death, Gen. Paul Tong, the General Overseer of Evangel Pentecostal Church (EPC), Okota; Lagos expressed shock that a Christian of Dimgbas caliber would accept to work for a man with the history of ritual killing and murder as Orji Uzor Kalu.

Gen. Tong said, Dimgba Igwe was the Deputy General Overseer of EPC and an ordained Pastor. When it was clear that Concorde Group of Newspapers, his employers at the time; could not settle his wages following the incarceration and eventual death of MKO Abiola the owner; Dimgba showed signs of desperation. Of all the offers at the time, I remember warning him to resist that from Orji Uzor Kalu who offered him to work for SUN newspapers

As a child of God, Dimgba ought to have seen those signs that he was in real danger. First, Orji Uzor Kalu cheated him out of the proceeds of the book Orji Uzor Kalu: The Master Strategist. As if that was not enough, Orji Uzor Kalu sacked him as Deputy Managing Director/Deputy Editor in Chief for no justifiable reasons.

As a cover up, Dimgba was handed over the ceremonial position of Vice Chairman from where he did all Orji Uzor Kalu’s dirty writing assignments; and was not paid salaries eight months before his death.

Continuing, the Army General turned Pastor said while he mourned the death of his deputy, he is constrained by the evil deeds of Orji Uzor kalu to place a curse on him for wasting the life of a young enterprising Dimgba.

DISTINGUISHED ABIANS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!
It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to this occasion, as we celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the founding of our great Abia State, God’s On State. We are all aware that the past 23 years of the development of Abia State has not been easy. But through the resilience and commitment of our industrious people, our leaders and the many men and women out there, we have gone the extra miles in our various endeavours to ensure that Abia State wears a new face today, and is better than we found it.

We salute our founding fathers of this State and all those great men and women out there, who continue to devote their energies to change Abia State for good. Some of these men and women have been honoured in the past and many more will be honoured today for devoting their various talents to the development of Abia Sate, and for projecting our State in positive directions.
Our Administration continues to do its part in deepening the sustainable foundation of the socio-economic and political development of our State in all ramifications. But Abia State remains a “major work in progress”, and whatever we have become in the last 23 years are the results of the committed efforts and progress made by various Governments and the indomitable spirit of Abia citizens in all works of life.
That indomitable spirit is the determination of our people and Governments to excel and leave enduring legacies, no matter the odds and the individual circumstances we find ourselves in. That is why even in the history of this Nation we find traces of the significant foot-steps of many Abians who influenced major changes and developments in this Nation.

In Politics, Military, Economics, Administration, Education, Commerce and Industry, Arts, Entertainment, etc, many Abians have stepped up to provide leadership and show the light, so that others follow. Some of them are here with us today and we are very proud of them!
As we celebrate the 23rd anniversary of our State, there are still enormous work to be done and many new frontiers to be surmounted. I challenge all Abians, wherever you may be, to step up and show excellence in your profession, and reflect your achievements, business expansions and talents to develop and brighten Abia State, so that you will be counted as one of those contributing your quota in the development of our State, our economy and our people. For everything you do, always think Abia, because home is always the best!
For our Government of Abia State, today’s celebration is very memorable in many ways. It is our last anniversary celebration at the helms of this State. It is also an opportunity for us to recount our achievements and the challenges that we faced in our struggle to leave Abia State better than we found it.

We have certainly tackled the hard task of laying the foundation for the sustainable development of Abia State, through our legacy projects that address the myriads of problems that confront our State.
We have successfully advanced the building and strengthening of the various institutions that support statehood and created a viable democracy in our State, and these are visible in our many completed legacy projects and other works in progress. These are evident in the first Abia State Government House after 20 years; the first Abia State Government Workers’ Secretariat, the first ultra modern International Conference Centre and befitting Court buildings all over the State.
All of these and many more have certainly deepened democracy in our State and will ensure continuity of our development efforts in the future, especially as a new Administration takes over in 2015 on a stronger platform than we found when we came to this office.
We have made Abia State a healthier State and pursued the well-being of our citizens through the establishment of 710 health centres in our State to make health care affordable at the grass-roots. We have constructed modern diagnostic centres at Aba and Umuahia, and also a Dialysis Centre at Umuahia to reduce the cost our people incur in foreign medical trips.
We have also collaborated with the Private Sector in establishing a Chest Clinic for screening of Tuberculosis and Leprosy in the Amachara section of our State University Teaching Hospital and built a modern Eye Centre to cater for the visual impaired victims of our society. We have commenced the building of a 100-bed General Hospitals in nine Local Government Areas of our State. Many of these projects are changing the face of the health sector service delivery in our State and are some of the reasons to celebrate in this anniversary.
Our Specialist Hospital in Amachara has been certified as a centre of internship for new medical graduates before their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Our Government has tackled the road infrastructural challenges of the State at both the urban and rural areas, and we have commenced the repositioning of Abia State as an agricultural based economy both to improve our internally generated revenue and food sufficiency of our State economy. That is why a number of our planned 17 Liberation Farms have now taken off in the Local Government Areas of the State. We have equally commenced the privatization of our State Oil Palm and Rubber plantations at Ukwa East and Bende, respectively so as to create more jobs for our population, especially for youth entrepreneurs.
We have strongly addressed the issue of unemployment of our youths through our empowerment programmes that include certified training of young entrepreneurs of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and donation of equipment to support such private business operations. More than 5,000 Abia youths have benefited from this programme and have been equipped to run their successful businesses as new entrepreneurs. We have also distributed more than 3,250 brand new vehicles to youth transport entrepreneurs engaged in taxi and haulage operations.

Other youths, women and the vulnerable members of our society have been retrained and supplied with equipments, including electric generator sets, computers and other accessories to support their new businesses
Above all, we have established equity, fairness and unhindered participation of our people in the politics of our State, and through that liberated our people and deepened democracy in Abia State. Today, Abians live in harmony with each other and aspire to give their best to the State through participation in the politics of our State.
Today our political and business elites are united and can work in unison to address the problems of Abia. But above all, our leadership has managed the resources of our State with prudence and accountability, and through that, become role models and a source of inspiration to many Abians. It is the desire of our Administration to continue in this direction and finish strong in 2015, so that the Government that comes after us will have a strong and sustainable foundation to take Abia to greater heights.
We only need to take a proper assessment of the past to come to full appreciation of what our Administration has done in the recent past to make Abia State greater and every anniversary celebration more meaningful and worthy experience. Our Administration was not deterred by the challenges we faced and what we inherited, instead we sought every opportunity to overcome our challenges and have created enduring legacies that we will be remembered for. This is the challenge of leadership which future Administrations of Abia State and our citizens need to embrace!
It is these same qualities that we have found in many of the awardees that we honour today. They have not stood on the sidelines to merely criticize and applaud only themselves. They are men and women that chose success over failure and have stood for excellence and worked with others to achieve the common good and yet did not succumb to inordinate wealth acquisition at all costs.

These men and women we honour today chose to make history rather than read history, and they have legacies to show for their actions; they have made a difference in the lives of Abians in their various endeavours and we are very proud of them!
For all the legacies that our Administration will leave for Abia State, I am very proud that we chose to make our State one of the most healthy and secured States in the Federation - where our people enjoy the dividends of democracy in good health, in a peaceful and conducive environment, and where they can exercise their ingenuity and business drive for the common good of all Abians. We are truly making the difference and the benefits of our efforts are showing in a more prosperous State, even as we celebrate our 23rd anniversary today, and with greater hope in the future.
While we celebrate our anniversary and honour our achievers today, let us not lose sight of the fact that no achievement in our State will be sustained in the future unless it is first sustained in our minds, in our attitudes and in our secured and peaceful environment.

That is why I call on all well-meaning Abians, especially our youths to become the guardian angels of the achievements we celebrate today, so that Abians begin to make more demands on their abilities as they drive towards greater excellence and honest achievement that we will all be proud to celebrate.
Today Abia is stronger, healthier and more united to face the future and reach for the best in all areas of human endeavour. It is our expectation that the leadership that takes over from our Government in 2015 will sustain the great hopes and expectations which our people share today and for the future. So that Abia State remains a beacon of hope with the enabling environment for all our citizens who desire to distinguish themselves.
I will continue to enjoin everyone here to renew their belief that Abia State is indeed a great State, God’s Own State and our people are a rare breed of ingenious people. It must therefore remain the singular challenge of every Abian to do what is in our powers to leave Abia State better than we found it.
This way, we can make each new anniversary of the State a memorable experience to share and a collective achievement to cherish. This is a challenge we must all live up to as Abians!

27th of August every year has become an
annual ritual, celebrated with fanfare of
multiple hues. There is no doubt that Abia will
triumph. A collocation of factors, most of them
propitious are pointers that could be
interpreted as good omen.
If we take a look at Abia birthday mates who
have trod this earth and other epic events,
you will realize that they left quantum
footsteps and extra large sized shoes, too big
to meet matching feet. Lyndon B Johnson, the
36th president of the United States of America
was born same date in 1908. Georg Wilhelm
Friedrich Hegel, the 19th century German
Philosopher, acclaimed worldwide for his
numerous political and social theories, hit the
earth on August 1770 in a place known as
Stuttgart. Towering above others in service to
mankind was Mother Theresa, the Yugoslavia-
born Catholic nun. As captured above, she
lived and died for the poor and raised charity
work to the highest level. She shares the same
birthday with Abia as she was born in
August, 27th 1910. It is democratically
instructive too that the French National
Assembly issued the bill of Rights of Man and
Citizen on the 27th of August in 1778.
From all the above, it is evident that Abia was
born great, full of promises and like Canaan,
bound to flourish with milk and honey.
Abia created in August 27, 1991 by the
Ibrahim Babangida military regime was a
result of hard work, diligence and synergy of
the founding fathers led by Dr. Michael I.
Okpara, Mr B A Wachukwu, who functioned
as the deputy while Hon Dr MAO Agbara was
the secretary. Other notable members are Dr.
Anagha Ezeikpe, still kicking and highly
articulate, Senator S M Ojukwu, J OJ Okezie,
Hon S U Nwangaga and Prof. J C Ogbonnaya,
former pro-chancellor of ABSU and consultant
surgeon at Madonna University Elele. These
men and other officers of the Abia State
Movement, too numerous to mention living
and dead, marched gallantly to the National
Assembly in Lagos, on July 3, 1980 and made a
formal presentation for the creation of Abia
State. It took eleven years, after most of the
activists have died for their prayers to be
answered.
The first Military Administrator, Group
Captain Frank Ajobena, did the pioneering
work and took off with the existing
structures, converting tiny education
department offices of the then Ikwuano/
Umuahia local Government Area and
classrooms into some parts of the existent
Government House. These rooms make up the
rooms 1 to 20. These rooms are still in use as
Government House Offices, but change is
afoot with the new Government House under
construction by the Ochendo administration.
A succession of military officers continued till
the era of democratically elected government
of Dr. Ogbonna Onu, who himself, had to go
due to another military intervention. The
benevolent interregnum of Gen Abdulsalam
Abubarka ushered in Dr. Orji Uzo Kalu who
exhausted his two terms before handing the
truncheon to His Excellency, Chief Dr.
Theodore Ahamefule Orji.
The founding fathers were aware of some
awful experiences that emanate from political
movements and struggles. Most of the time,
cases abound of deprivations, neglects and
slavish domination; consequently they laid a
solid foundation in form of legal framework
to check such ugly situations. These foolproof
checks were well stated, signed, sealed and
delivered. According to professor S N
Nwabara, in his book, God’s own State, an
account of the creation of Abia State page 43,
‘Abia will be a happy STATE, a model STATE
in the Federation of Nigeria. It is to this end
that the people of the proposed ABIA STATE
have drawn, signed and sealed for themselves
what we call THE CHARTER OF EQUITY. This
is to reassure friends and opponents alike that
everyone matter; that every community
matter; that no part will be neglected; that
there will be no domination of any group in
the STATE by the other; that there will be
even development of the STATE. This is what
is reflected in the motto of the STATE: “ONYE
AGHALA NWANNEYA”.
This Charter ranks as high as other
fundamental declarations like the Magna
Carta and other bills of Right. Among other
articles is the power shift which is a potent
inflammable factor and cause for concern in
other political situations. This all-important
issue of power rotation among the senatorial
zones was fully addressed and has been fully
adhered to. As a testimony, power has shifted
from Abia North Senatorial zone to Abia
Central.
Dr. T.A Orji, from Abia Central Senatorial
Zone has unequivocally pledged his
commitment to this document as to facilitate
the power shift from the central to Abia South
Senatorial Zone, notably, in 2015, his terminal
date. In a Unanimous decision by the PDP
Abia Caucus, ratified by the stakeholders on
21th July 2014, this zone will produce the
next governor.
As a people, there are some pertinent
questions we have to ask ourselves.
Where are we coming from?
What have we achieved so far?
Where are we heading?
In all these years, which persons or group
have served us better?
The Holy Bible states it clearly in Proverbs
chapter 29 verse 2, ‘when the righteous are
on the throne the people rejoice. ’None can
deny the fact that Abians have had it so good
with His Excellency Dr. T.A. Orji in all sectors
of human development. In infrastructural
assessment, Abia leads. If previous
administrations have embarked on such
developmental strides like Ochendo has done,
there will be no bad road in Abia. His
Excellency has transformed bush paths to
roads, bushes to houses and local
communities to townships. Communities do
not have to travel long distances with over
710 Primary Health Care centres, 250 out of
these built by him in all the nooks and
crannies to sooth frayed nerves as, according
to him, only the healthy can enjoy dividends
of democracy.
Diagnostic centres equipped with state-of-the–
art machines like dialysis machines are in
place not forgetting the ultra modern
specialist hospital that is the toast of our
brothers from neighboring states like Akwa
Ibom, Cross Rivers State, Ebonyi and Rivers
State. Basic Education is free with free busing
in Umuahia and Aba. It is instructive that all
the while, T.A has not done anything else but
serve people in multiple capacities. He has a
trail of Legacy Projects as if to answer the
question: what will you be remembered for?
In answer, there are the new secretariat, new
Government House and the 9000 capacity
International Conference Centre which had
denied Abia the hosting rights of international
conferences. Others are the updated Abia
State University Teaching Hospital, the
judiciary complexes in Umuahia and Aba, the
48-room Broadcasting Corporation of Abia
house, first of its kind in Nigeria,
acknowledged by no other than Yemi
Bamgbose, current RATTAWU Chieftain. The
new industrial market at Azueke and the
Ubani Modern Market are still making waves
in the commercial world. What with the twin-
tower secretariat and the E-library with an
idea hub. The Governor as a change agent has
laid foundations for new airport and seaport,
opening new commercial frontiers.
Construction of roads and other utility projects
are continuous processes too numerous to be
listed.
The big question is, ‘why have previous
administrations forgotten these definitive
projects?’ For T. A. Orji, the icing on his cake
is reassembling and genuinely reconciling all
Abians in one big umbrella of PDP as a house
divided cannot stand. As a testimony, all Abia
leaders led him to an unprecedented victory
in April 2011, with Chief Onyema Ugochuwu,
his hitherto political adversary playing major
supportive roles. Ochendo’s honesty in
keeping his promises has disarmed his former
foes in the old political formation, forcing
them to place their cards on the table. It is not
a surprise seeing Chief Ojo Maduekwe, Vin
Ogbulafo, Elder Emma Adelu, Enyi Abaribe,
Chime Asonye, Senator Nkechi Nworgu and
others previously tagged Talibans or Abuja
politicians, dining in one ornate table. In the
same vein, Abia leaders of thought hitherto
cajoled, harassed and negatively profiled for
their upright positions on policy issues, for
these and more scampered to safety but are
now back to reckoning, snuggled on the
Ochendo comfort fur coats.
Crime rose to high heavens in form of
horrible kidnappings and gangster-like armed
robberies which forced banks on unscheduled
closures, have been brought to the barest
minimum. Today, Abia is the investment
destination with groups like the Honeywell
group, Nigerian Breweries, Guinness Nigeria,
Spar, Kia Motors, TradeMore, African
Independent Television, Aso Investments and
International Conglomerates like Shoprite,
Broadbased Communication- a fibre-optics
behemoth, Embassies of Thailand, America
and many others are posturing for space.
Agriculture the mainstay of former Eastern
Nigeria is reengineered, made attractive for
our youths to migrate from being ravenous
consumers to the enviable place of producers.

Your Excellency,

I read with a great deal of embarrassment the article that was ghosted in the column you allegedly write in The Sun Newspaper of Sunday 16th August 2014. It was incredible that you would allow yourself to be talked into exposing yourself to that embarrassment, for any reason. I wonder what point you were trying to make and to whom?

The article and the facts it purported to convey were written as if you functioned as an island while serving as the Executive Governor of Abia State. But you did not. You worked with people, lots of people and luckily most of those people are still alive. They are living witnesses to what transpired in Abia State under your rule, including your relationship with Governor T.A Orji. Obviously of course, I am one of such people, having served as your Special Adviser on Research and Strategy and subsequently as the Commissioner for Information. I have elected to respond to the litany of falsehood contained in your letter firstly as a witness to history, and secondly, because I am involved. As you well know, the man you take so much pleasure to lampoon at every turn is my kinsman, My Dede! It is totallFeature2y unacceptable for you to leverage on your position as a Newspaper Publisher to mount incessant attacks on T.A.Orji. It is an abuse of position. As a reporter, I also consider it a sacred duty; consistent with my professional ethos to act as a watchdog against purveyors of falsehood. .

The simple truth sir is that you lied in your write up. Obviously, the write up was meant for the outside world; the few ignorant people who don’t really know you. It is certainly not for the millions of Abia indigenes who had the misfortune of having you as Governor for eight years. It is also not for any one of us, your past commissioners and sundry other aides who worked closely with you and saw through you. You claim to be a master strategist and an avid propagandist. So you believe that if you tell a lie long enough, it will become the truth. Sorry your Excellency, a lie is a lie, is a lie! Even you, with all your gamji prowess cannot change a lie to be the truth: you didn’t make T.A.Orji . At the time you met him, he was the Administrative Secretary of INEC. As is your style, your lobbied him excessively. You know yourself; whenever you want anything or anybody, you put on your charming front. You struck a partnership with T.A Orji which facilitated your emergence as Governor.

Anyone who knows Orji Uzor Kalu knows that he does nothing for free. T.A became Chief of Staff as a reward for his assistance in your emergence as Governor. Unlike you, I can’t claim he made you Governor. All power comes from God. But he played
his role, a critical role which you know fully well, a role which made him your partner. As Chief of Staff, he served you loyally, efficiently and commitedly. He did his best, as some of us also did to manage your exuberant excesses. With due respect sir, you stand truth on its head when you alleged that, he was in charge of almost everything in Government house- from the management of security vote to routine administration. I, working with one of your closest aides then, Victor Oye. Oga! Haba!!! Which closest aide? Victor Oye? And so what happened to Chuka Odom? We all know what Oye did (and still does for you!) Ha, hmmm, don’t let us expose and disgrace ourselves o! I find it interesting that you didn’t bring Chuka Odom into the discussion. Why, if I may ask? And your all-powerful mother, Oduko? So if T.A was in charge of everything, what happened to the-great-
SHE-who-must-be-obeyed? Mother Excellency, defacto 1st Lady and Associate Governor of Abia state?

Oga, why do you behave as if everyone is suffering from amnesia? Or do you still believe the myth that you are a guy man while the rest of Abia are Jew guys?

You ran Abia State as a fiefdom. The only real powers were you, your mother and that your brother, who you elected to the Federal House of Reps. The records will stand whether he even opened his mouth or raised a finger, for the entire duration of his membership of the House. But of course, you claimed to be the Abia equivalent of the Kennedys, the three of you Orji, Nnanna and Mascot. So you also made Mascot Chief of Staff to T.A and designated him, heir- apparent.

You allege that you don’t know what you did t T.A? Are you sure? Search your conscience.

You wanted T.A. to be Governor only in name while you and your mother continued to rule. So you appointed your brother as the Chief of Staff, gave T.A. only one commissionership slot which he filled with Okey Amaechi (SAN) as Attorney General and shared the entire 17 local Government Chairman with your mummy.

T.A aides pleaded with you to allow him produce the chairman of his LGA, but you declined. You appointed ASP Okoro, your former orderly as his ADC, and appointed one of your former drivers as his Chief Driver. You also tried to appoint the Government House cooks. When his wife, Chief Mrs Odochi Orji refused, and insisted that she had always cooked for her husband, you reluctantly conceded to her. You nominated companies fronting for you to be the main contractors of the Government and with your cousin and kinsman as Commissioner for Finance, their payments were always prompt. Your Excellency sir, the truth is as you boasted to a group of us in your house at Adeleke Adedoyin Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, (yes the same one which I hear you have turned into a bed and breakfast or short time” hotel now). I am still the real Governor of Abia State!

You were sir. And for a season, T.A. was willing to oblige you. But Abia indigenes were not. They had suffered grievously under your yoke for 8 years and refused to continue in bondage. Many of them were outraged by your boast that my family will rule Abia for 25 years! If you can recall, Chuka Odom and i advised you against making that boast. But as usual, you didn’t listen. Even some of your friends, like Dr. Steve Ihedigbo, privately chaffed over that claim. It is true that Abia indigenes can be tolerant, but even you know that there is a limit to human tolerance. With due respect sir, you crossed the line. You treated T.A. with unacceptable disrespect and in fact levity. Chuka Odom, told me that he once asked you in Abuja: Sir, do you realize that this man is a sitting Governor? Do you recall your answer? It was quite telling:

In Abia, there are only two Powers, REALITY ORGANIZATION and the ORJI UZOR KALU FAMILY!” If you permit sir, i would call that hubris. Now, the facts have not borne you out. There is clearly another power in Abia “ Peoples Power. No one can be bigger than his people. And as the Igbo say, whereas one man can cook for the community, the community can’t cook for one man. You are no doubt a very successful man, a true master strategist, if you may. You are rich, influential and powerful. But still, you are not bigger than Abia State. You challenged Governor Orji to use any medium to tell you what you did wrong to him. Well, let me also give you a different kind of challenge. Please sir, mention two, okay, let be fair, mention just one prominent Abia indigene who holds you in any esteem!

Is it Ebitu Ukiwe, Ike Nwachukwu, Adolphus Wabara, Ndubusi Kanu, Anya O. Anya, Joe Irukwu, Ojo Maduekwe, Enyinnaya Abanibe. Vin Ogbulafor, Ngozi-Okonjo Iweala, Emeka Wogu, Nkechi Nwaogu, Mark Wabara, Onyema Ugochukwu, Hon Nnenna Ukeje, Ndubusi Kanu, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa and his Brother Mao, Senator Uche Chukwumerije, Dr J. C Ogbonnaya; the list is endless. You can see sir, T.A. is not really your problem. Your real problem is Abia State and her people. You have desecrated the land and so it is angry with you. As your former strategist, my advice is that you should propitiate the land and seek forgiveness. That is the culture of our people.

Breaking news: five people were killed today at
the camp neya home of Orji uzor kalu at Igbere,
as the former gov declares his interest to run for
the Abia north senatorial seat in 2015 on the
platform of PPA . Our reporter who witnessed the
incident said that hundreds of PPA supporters
who came to welcome kalu were kept outside
before the ex gov arrived. As soon as kalu arrived
with his convoy some of his supporters who
attempted to enter when the gate was openned
were hit by kalus back ups that were on top
speed. Apart from the five people 4 old women
and a male teenager, several others were
wounded. The deceased were later taken away by
kalus aides. Kalu who was not perturbed by the
event told his angry guests that he is in the race
for senate on the platform of PPA. Kalu who

ABIA STATE LEGACY PROJECTS: SECTOR BY SECTOR...Foundation is the key and without foundation, the building will not Stand. Oga/Madam reader! Before you compare Abia State with other States with past solid foundation built by their past Governments, take a glance at the projects below and maybe you may have some reasons to ponder why all these essential projects are built by just one man one administration. The Man T.A Orji met nothing on ground to consolidate and sustain when he emerged the Governor of Abia State. No Government House, No State worker's Secretariat, no skill acquisition centre for the youths, Golden Guinea was sold, Ceramics sold, etc. It was all Gamji as they coined the System of Government then.
However, Seeing is Believing and with the legacy projects of Governor T.A Orji, the future seems bright for Abia State.

Osun State Radio and Television are currently playing Kalu's jingles where the former Abia Governor is telling Osun people to vote for Aregbesola.

The advert which is also being promoted by Aregbesola's campaign team is also in Punch and other newspapers with the theme "Aregbesola deserves a second term" Says OUK.

However, the former PPA Chairman, Chief Larry Essien who spoke on this development said that kalu is a frustrated and confused politician. According to him, "Kalu is now a rolling stone who is seeking for relevance without minding his actions. How can someone that is accusing some politicians from his State of undermining his readmission into PDP be seen campaigning for a different party? Isn't that an act of confusion by an inconsistent character?

Even APC has rejected him as PDP did, Essien reiterated. Chief Larry Essien also queried kalu's denial of campaigning for Fayemi of Ekiti, Aregbesola of Osun and other APC leaders sometime ago. Can he also deny his voice on the radio and television this time? Essien asked.

Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has sympathized with the worshippers of the Young Peoples Christian Fellowship at 8, Eziukwu Road, Aba, who became unconscious as a result of the inhalation of carbon monoxide poison from a generator set packed inside the church.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, Governor Orji said since the sad news was broke to him that he had been praying fervently for their quick recovery.
Governor Orji who expressed happiness over the prompt treatment given to victims to save their lives by some good Samaritans including medical experts, implored Abians to continue to be their brother’s keeper.
He said what the affected worshippers needs most is our prayers to enable them recuperate fast adding that God Almighty who they had gone to sought His face would give them divine healing.
The governor also frowned at the unprofessional way a local radio station reported that 39 worshippers were confirmed dead in the incident.

Abia: Why Claim Ochendo?

“In the abundance of water the fool is thirsty…” “…how many rivers do we have to cross before we can talk to the boss all we have it seems we have lost haven’t we already paid the cost”, wailed an agonized late freedom activist in a musical rhythm to the oppressed people who seemed blindfolded by the illusionary gimmicks of a desperate and defiant captor – symptomatic of today’s potent quagmire the lovely people of Abia find themselves battling under captive grips of the ‘gamji-like’ illusionary distractions of a former governor and/or captor who have refused to leave the stage long after the music had stopped.

The man, Orji Uzor Kalu who governed Abia State for eight years of near rancor free governance, appears unrelenting in disallowing a rancor free governance for the administration which succeeded his administration. Beyond mere attempts at importing noisy distractions to the Ochendo administration, Orji Uzor Kalu has reached for the embarrassing depth of employing literal gangsterisim into the unfolding democratic dividends being experienced presently in Abia State.

In so doing, he has tapped on the Don Normans, Wabaras and the Onwumeres to spew voluminous nothings in the attempts to throw a wrench into the progressive efforts of the Ochendo administration of erecting legacy structures to form the foundation of future developmental efforts by subsequent administration. The Wabaras and Onwumeres, on their part, have gone about their tasks of continually authoring what they refer to as articles on the person of Gov. Theodore Afamefuna Orji on a daily basis – bereft of tangible or factual criticism, but filled with ‘gangster-like’ insults on the governor.

Take for an example one of the many publications titled “Agents Of Satan Now In Abia” by Odimegwu Onwumere written on July 23, 2014 where he utilized 903 words to supposedly narrate how the administration of Ochendo had opened the flood gates to ‘Agents of Satan’. He utilized the 903words to unleash unguarded insults on the person and administration of the Governor. One of the opening paragraphs reads, “Hoodlums could follow you immediately you open your gate and rob you without any fear, because they have seen that Governor Theodore Ahamefule Orji’s government is not serious and is one which has surrounded itself with touts and charlatans. These touts and charlatans are in his media team, retinue of aides and in other paraphernalia. The government is a government of buffoons, charlatans and touts.”

Unknowing to the author, the Ochendo administration has gone beyond what any of his colleagues in the south east geo political region have gone to achieve in the area of security. Particularly, in ensuring that the spat of kidnapping is brought to a near minimum. In his kneejerk attempt to malign the Ochendo administration, he forgets the giant steps taken by the Ochendo administration to bring down the notorious kidnap kingpin ‘Osisikankwu’. He forgets that during the reign of terror in Abia, businesses had left Aba to other calmer and safer climates. He forgets to add that 90% of those businesses have returned to Aba. Such businesses as Nigerian Breweries have returned to invest the sum of N15billion into the Abia State economy, the production of Dubic stout has returned in Aba in full gear through the assistance of Guinness, also the NNPC operations have returned to Aba after having departed following pipeline vandalism.

He certainly may not know of the Major General Sylvester Andrew Audu – led anti-kidnapping unit termed Operation Jubilee – which virtually wiped away the growing threat of kidnapping within the span of one year – through assistance from the Governor. The rehabilitation of the abandoned [abandoned by the OUK administration] Ohafia Barracks, now renamed Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks may also had evaded his knowledge.

For the sake of fairness, his ignorance towards the real goings-on in Abia State can be blamed on his inability to read, comprehend and follow the policies and developmental trends in Abia state but his decision to revert to bold faced and unguarded insults on the governor cannot be excused or blamed on ignorance.

To cap his diatribe on the Ochendo administration, he ends the 903 words article with the following paragraph, “How to make Abia State a non-violent one in earnest, the government has over 70 per cent worth of duty to contribute. But sadly, this is a rotten system that does not welcome brilliant, visionary and optimistic critics. It is sad news in Abia State that truth is wanted not be told. Those who fight for the truth, fighting for the oppressed, are hated. Many people are sending their condolences to the death of Abia State under Gov. Orji. There is no good governance in the state. What is there is a dishonest government”.

In what appears accidental comedy, he refers to his 903 words write up as “…brilliant, visionary and optimistic critics…” and he continued “Those who fight for the truth, fighting for the oppressed, are hated.” But the author failed or forgot to observe that he did not criticize the Ochendo administration rather his article only repeated abuses and insults on the governor and his administrators without pointing to a particular policy of the Governor that aggrieves him. He also failed to point out the truths he claims he is fighting for, or who the oppressed which he claims he is battling for were?

The shameful truth is that the author had nothing substantive to say in his 903 word diatribe.

There is no shame in claiming the efforts of the governor of Abia State. The arguments over his performance has become an overly exhausted exercise – particularly for informed citizens of the State. The governor’s effort against the prevalence of crime has reached beyond arming the security agencies or providing security gadgets – it has reached to the youths of Abia State – through its empowerment program administered through the Ochendo Youth Foundation where thousands of vehicles and tricycles were distributed to unemployed Abia State youths for free. The vehicles included Sienna Toyota vans, Toyota Camry and the-likes including 11 assorted brands of vehicles.

Over 5,000 sewing machines were also distributed to youths who had chosen to be trained in sewing. This effort has considerably aided slowdown the rate at which youths in Aba and other urban centers engage in criminal activities. The erection of skill acquisition center under the administration of Ochendo Youth Foundation have been able to train numerous Abians in computer related skills, fashion and tailoring – along with giving start up grants to start new businesses of their own.

Beyond empowering the youths, the Ochendo administration has embarked of mass housing for the common citizens of the State. The housing scheme launched under the current administration comes as a virgin project to the state – since the OUK administration failed or rather refused to embark on a single housing scheme. Amongst the many housing project launched- are the Amachara Housing Project, New Workers Secretariat, Amokwe Housing Estate, Isieke Housing Estate, Trader’s Housing Estate, Abia State Government House, Ministry of Justice, Planning Commission, International Conference Center, Ultra-Modern Market Umuahia and others.



In terms of electricity, the administration of Ochendo has been bold in the implementation of its policies. Its investment of 3billion into the Federal Government power station under Integrated Power Project [ABA IPP] has yielded appreciable gains for the project and by extension, Abia state. It enable for the fastened completion of the Geometric Power Plant. Power generation and distribution has improved considerably as a result.

In terms of road networks in the populous town of Aba, the Ochendo has not been shy. Against the popular notions espoused by the attack dogs of the former governor, insinuating the Ochendo administration has failed to address the road network in Aba, the Ochendo administration has indeed tackled head-on the said road network. Amongst them are – Milverton Avenue Aba, Brass Road Aba, Geometrics Power Station Road Osisioma Aba, Constitution Crescent Aba, Rehabilitated Ururuka-New Umuahia Road Aba, Ntigha-Mbawsi Road Isiala Ngwa North, Ogbor Hill-Omoba-Obikabia Road Aba, Completed Ukwumango Spot On Faulks Road Aba, Danfodio Road Aba, Osisioma – Ekeakpara Road Osisioma Lga, Azikiwe Road Aba.

Window work, painting and electrical wiring are almost completed at the second building, fixing of doors is also in progress. the contractor had assured us that this project will be completed in three (3) weeks time. ( see attached photo).

(4) CONTRACTOR: MENTORS AND PARTINERS NIG. LTD. SITE : LOCAL GOVT. & CHIEF-TAINCY AFFAIRS COMPLEX OFFICE. Work is in progress at this project site. Roofing of the building and parapet construction are on – going. ( see attached photographs).

(5) CONTRACTOR: BUVIC INTERNATIONAL LTD. SITE: HIV, MALARIA AND TUBERCULOSIS RESEARCH CENTRE AT AMACHARA HOSPITAL UMUAHIA. The project is on – going, impressive work approach was confirmed.

Right from the earliest history of man, leadership has been a characteristic feature of human enterprise. Where any society is, by way of its socio-econo-political development, depicts a clear measurement of the potency of its leadership. It, therefore, follows that the gap between two human societies is a reflexion of the differences between the two different leaderships.

In human development, there has always been a distinction between a leader and a ruler. While the former is altruistic, visionary, broad-minded and is concerned with the fate of generations yet unborn, the latter is egocentric, parochial, materialistic, acquisitive and short-sighted. In two societies where one has a leader and the other a ruler, there is always a wide world of difference.

Majority of third – world countries, despite the abundance of natural resources God endowed them with, have remained undeveloped or, at best, under developed principally due to the quality of their leadership. How would one ever expect a society which leadership is inclined to pleasures and euphoria of the moment to grow?

As would be recalled, history is replete with the rise and fall of many Empires and Kingdoms. In Sub-saharan Africa, such Empires as Songhai, Mali and Kanem-Borno had fallen because of lack of vision and altruism on the part of their leaders. Historiography equally reminds man that renowned Roman Empire and most recently the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, U.S.S.R, got disintegrated as a result of inarticulate leadership. All in all, any headship of any society or organization that is not anchored on equity, simply but terribly reflects rulership as against leadership.

The strategic importance of effective application and administration of equity in any human milieu does not need to be over-emphasized. Suffice it, however, to say that where there is equity, there is a sense of belonging that generates patriotism, dedication, development, progress, harmony, security and stability.

On the contrary, mere absence of equity, in whatever form and at whatever level of human congregation, becomes a catalyst for frustration, unpatriotism, self destruction, retrogression and eventual societal dislocation and collapse. This is because, under such a very disharmonious circumstance, no sane man would expect any positive contribution from a segment or strata of a society that feels discriminated against, marginalized and psychologically traumatized.

It is in the spirit of equity that the authors of Nigeria’s Federal Constitution of 1999, as amended, even though tele-guided by the Nigerian Military, clearly divided each of the thirty-six states of the Federation into three senatorial zones. It is also in the same spirit that the same constitution provides a maximum period of two tenures of four years each for a governor of a state. In this respect, common sense dictates that the position of a state Governor should rotate amongst the people of the constitutionally stipulated three senatorial zones of each state.

In Abia State, for example, the three senatorial zones are;
(1)​Abia – North, made up of Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia and Umunneochi Local Government Council Areas

(2)​Abia – Central, consisting of Ikwuano, Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa – South, Osisioma Ngwa, Umuahia – North and Umuahia – South.

(3)​Abia – South, comprising Aba – North, Aba – South, Obingwa, Ugwunagbo, Ukwa – East and Ukwa – West Council Areas.

Going down memory lane, Abia – North had occupied the governorship seat for two tenures of four years each; 1999 – 2007. Currently, Abia Central has been on the seat since May 29th 2007 till date and the occupant; Chief Theodore Ahamefule Orji, would be safely and successfully rounding off his second tenure on 29th May, 2015.

From the above narrative, it is very lucid that the only senatorial zone that is yet to have a stint at the State’s governorship seat is Abia – South.

At this juncture, it would be necessary to state that in rotating the governorship seat of any Nigerian State, the consideration, principally, should not be based on geo-cultural affinity as the Nigerian Constitution does not provide for it. Rather, the emphasis should be on senatorial delineation.

It would also be necessary to elucidate the very simple fact that in Abia State, constitutionally – speaking, power rotation can not be hinged on primordial sentiments of Old Bende and Ukwa/Ngwa groupings. If this were to be so, it would automatically have followed that an indigene of Ukwa/Ngwa should have become the governor of the state immediately after the tenure of an indigene of Old Bende who governed the state from 1999 to 2007.

There is no gain saying the fact that in a democracy, every citizen has the right to legitimately aspire to any height of leadership. At the same time, the same democracy makes it imperative that the constitutionality of the polity must be strictly adhered to.

As it has earlier been made manifest, the difference between a leader and a ruler has always been very clear. A leader is a man or a woman of immeasurable vision, who is capable of visualizing the future. Such a man imagines socio-econo-political problems and selflessly solves them well ahead of time.

It is, therefore, no wonder why the Governor of Abia State; Chief T.A. Orji, has been consistent in his advocacy that his successor shall be a product of equity in rotation. On many different occasions and fora, he has reminded his audience that he is a product of equity in rotation and that whoever will be his successor shall equally be a legitimate product of rotation in observance of the State’s Senatorial realities.

Governor T.A. Orji is not a lonely voice crying in the wilderness. Many of his colleagues are in the same boat of equity, justice and fairness with him. Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State has never hidden his strong belief that the next governor of the state should come from Enugu–North Senatorial Zone of the state. Governor Martin Nwancho Elechi of Ebonyi State has equally advocated a power shift to Ebonyi–South. Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa-Ibom State has repeatedly said that his successor should come from Eket Senatorial District in 2015 while Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has made it clear, through a legislation by the State House of Assembly, that the next governor of the state shall hail from the Northern Senatorial Zone of the state. Lest we have forgotten, the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, had successfully insisted on power shift on senatorial basis that gave rise to the emergence of his successor; Mr. Willie Obiano.

Governor T.A. Orji’s advocacy for power shift based on Senatorial understanding simply presents him as a leader who appreciates the fact that the strongest link in a chain is, surely, its weakest link. Being the consummate administrator that he is, the Governor realizes that no society can enjoy full development and growth if within it a section or an area perceives itself as a victim of calculated marginalization and deprivation. This thinking makes the humble but result – oriented Ochendo a statesman of note. Politicians think of self advantages but T.A. Orji is concerned with what will enthrone peace, harmony, security and progress in his state even when he would have left office.

People from all walks of life and shades of opinion in the state have, out of their own volition, acknowledged Ochendo as a man that is worth his salt. It would, therefore, be expected that all and sundry should appreciate the wisdom of Sir T.A. Orji’s advocacy for equity in rotation of the governorship of the state.

There could be very many wealthy gubernatorial aspirants from either the North or Central Senatorial Zones of the State who, if equity and political morality were to be thrown to the wind, would easily grab the seat based on cash and carry syndrome. Interestingly, such wealthy personalities had, for the umpteenth time, publicly expressed their appreciation of and belief in Ochendo’s concern for equity and peaceful co-existence. It would, therefore, not be out of place if such persons toe the line of patriotism and selflessness by giving support to the governor in his bid to enthrone equity. It must be mentioned here that the Northern senatorial zone of Abia State did not succeed itself in 2007. It will also follow that the central senatorial zone will not succeed itself in 2015.
To the good indigenes of Abia South, made up of the three clans of Asa, Ndoki and Ngwa, in their alphabetical order, every care must be taken to make sure they put their acts together. In the pursuit of their aspiration, ego, bitterness and inconsiderate rigidity for which many political actors from the zone are known, should this time, give way to selfless, liberal, patriotic and friendly consideration. That negative and self-destructive tendency of “if not me, let all of us fail” for which they are known and ridiculed should be a very distant thing of the past. Again, some prominent men in the zone who, like Esau in the Bible, are fond of selling their birth right because of greed, should, for goodness sake realize that this is the most crucial moment in the political history of the zone.

Furthermore, it should be noted that he who goes to equity should go with clean hands. Since Abia-South is asking for the governorship of the state in 2015 based on equity and competence, the zone should also make sure that equity reflects holistically in the zone.

In this regard, should an Ngwa indigene of Abia–South, for instance, clinche the governorship of the state, the Senator for the zone should come from Asa. This is because Ngwa should not produce the governor and the Senator at the same time. Taking cognizance of the fact that an Ndoki man; Rt. Hon. Adolphus Wabara, represented Abia-South at the Senate for eight consecutive years, 1999 – 2007, equity would demand that if the senate position of Abia – South should rotate to Ukwa in 2015, the position should go to Asa which is Ukwa–west. The House of Representatives seat should, in that case, be retained by Ukwa – East.

On the other hand, if an indigene of Ukwa becomes the Governor in 2015, the Ngwa group should retain the senatorial position. Under such a circumstance, the House of Representatives’ seat for Ukwa would be occupied by an indigene of the Local Government Area that did not produce the Governor.

In summary, Governor T.A. Orji must be commended for his intrepidity and resoluteness in his pursuit of equity.

Prominent political leaders from Ukwa/Ngwa area of Abia State have commended Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State for declaring that the governorship seat of the state, will move to Abia South Senatorial District, and not just Ukwa/Ngwa, in 2015.

Orji, who at the beginning of his second term, promised to handover to an Ngwa man, declared last week, during the swearing-in of the newly appointed Transition Committee chairmen for the seventeen local government areas of the state in Umuahia, that power will move to Abia South in 2015.

His words: “I am a product of rotation. If there was no rotation I may not be governor today. I must continue with rotation because power moved from Abia-North to Abia-Central, and must go to South.

“It is incumbent on me because failure to do that will be injustice to myself and my party. It is fair to both God and man.”

Reacting to the development, a political leader of Ukwa/Ngwa, Chief Emmanuel Adaelu said: "I want to express my sincere thanks to our dear Governor, Chief TA Orji, because he is a man of his words.

"During his second missionary journey as governor, we gave him our total support to ensure his re-election in 2011, and he promised our people that he will handover to an Ngwa man. Since then, we have been waiting for him to make this pronouncement, now he has made it emphatically clear to Abians that power will move to Abia South, and not just Ukwa/Ngwa in 2015.

"I am very happy and my people, both the Ngwa people in Abia Central and the Ukwa/Ngwa people in Abia South, are happy.
"Governor Orji is a man of equity, and we respect him. I know that so many people have been putting pressure on him, trying to dissuade him not to do this, but he has done it right."


Adaelu added: "I am one of the early supporters of PDP and our party supports the policy of zoning. The former governor came from Abia North, the present Governor, Chief TA Orji is from Abia Central, therefore, it is imperative and justifiable in compliance with the PDP policy that power moves to Abia South in 2015.

"His declaration of support for Abia South is a major step in actualising our quest for an Abia governor from the Ngwa extraction."

Adaelu, who is from the Ngwa areas in Abia central stressed that: "I was one of the people that supported zoning among the three senatorial districts in Abia State, and I insist on that irrespective of the fact that I am from Abia Central. Again I will not deny that fact that the movement began from Abia north, moved to my senatorial district, Abia Central, with our dear governor who is on the saddle now, therefore equity and good policy demands that we all support the movement to Abia South in 2015, and that is what we will do."

On the issue of aspirants from outside Abia South, Adaelu said that there is nothing wrong for anybody to aspire, but stressed that: "At the right time, the leaders of the people will take a stand and whatever stand we take, will decide what will happen.

"Anybody aspiring to be governor in 2015 from Abia central or Abia north should know that it is the turn of the Abia South to produce the governor for us in 2015. Abia central cannot produce two governors in succession that is why it should go to Abia South that is what equity demands.

"We are pulling the bulks of people from Aba zone to support whoever emerges. I am speaking the minds of my people." Adaelu said.

Barrister Chibuike Nwokeukwu, another frontline Ngwa political leader from Abia Central, also commended Governor Orji, and said that political leaders and traditional rulers in Ukwa/Ngwa are already perfecting plans to summon all Ngwa governorship aspirants to a meeting where the aspirants will be advised on the need for a consensus.

His words: "The agitation for power shift to Abia South in 2015 is real, the declaration by Governor TA Orji makes it more real. Being a man I know whatever he says, within his competence, Governor TA Orji will do it, I commend him for what he has done. We are happy."

He continued: "The governor's declaration does not mean that he has chosen a candidate, no, it is the party that will choose the candidate.

"I also know the old saying that a tree does not make a forest, but a tree can give an indication where a forest should be."

He said that those who have indicated interest in the governorship race are qualified, however he cautions the aspirants to be mindful of the fact that all of them will not be governor at once.

"Every one of them who has indicated interest to be governor is qualified to be, but the truth about it is that only one person will be governor at a time, so all we have to do as leaders of the community, is to invite these our sons and daughters that have indicated interest for governorship and say to them; ladies and gentlemen, this is time for us to be reasonable about this thing."
