Autos / Gokada Relaunches Upgraded Version With Safer Bikes And Better Customer Service by InsideMainland: 5:51pm On Aug 26, 2019
Nigeria’s leading motorbike hailing service, Gokada is pleased to announce that it has relaunched its operations in Lagos with new motorcycles and better-equipped pilots who have been extensively trained in safe driving standards, GPS navigation, and customer service.

Gokada halted its existing pilots and bikes from operating and paused access to its App on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, citing the need to improve its safety standards and skills of their pilots. Since that time, Gokada has upskilled existing and newly engaged GPilots in advanced knowledge of defensive driving behaviors for enhanced safety, GPS navigation, and optimized customer service delivery.

In addition to this, the brand has also overhauled its entire motorbike fleet and acquired first-of-its-kind, super-efficient TVS motorbikes and fitted their pilots with Bluetooth enabled helmets allowing for more seamless communication and navigation experience.

Commenting, Founder and Co-CEO of Gokada, Fahim Saleh, said; “Gokada has always prided itself on setting the standard in the market for safety and service. Hairnets, DOT certified helmets, extensive training - these are all reasons safety on our bikes have been so consistent and how we were able to convince so many to give this new age bike taxi a shot. As we scale, what we have now would be the template for what all our future pilots will follow. We took the risk to pause for a moment and improve on that template in order to provide our customers with exceptional service at scale.”

Also commenting, the Co-CEO of Gokada, Ayodeji Adewumni stated; “Gokada 2.0 is all about our unflinching commitment to our customers. We believe that it is better to suspend our operations for two weeks so we can retool and revamp for unmatched service delivery and exceptional experience with the Gokada brand for a long time to come. It will be an incredible time to use the Gokada services as we journey to transform transportation in Nigeria and the rest of Africa. As part of this relaunch we have also made several upgrades to the management team, and I am truly excited about Gokada 2.0”.

“We are excited to continue setting the standard in our industry by exceeding all of the regulatory requirements in Nigeria and partnering with government organizations like the Lagos State Government to help move residents through quicker, more comfortable, safer and responsible means”, said, Kayode Adegbola, Gokada’s Director of Government Relations.

All newly trained pilots are scheduled to graduate on Monday, August 26, 2019. The service is slated to resume with pilots on the road Tuesday, August 27, 2019. Gokada promises there will be many surprises for customers, including an iPhone X for one lucky passenger.

Travel / 6 Ways The New LBS Buses Will Change The Way We Transport In Lagos by InsideMainland: 8:41pm On Jun 07, 2019
There is a popular saying by award winning author, Dr. Erol Ozan that ‘you can't understand a city without using its public transportation system.’ This saying best explains the situation in modern cities where thousands of people transit daily from one point to another in a bid to eke out a living.

Over the years, transportation system in modern societies has witnessed transformation in operations, owing to various initiatives by individuals, groups, institutions and government to ensure residents and motorists who commute daily, easily access their destinations. These innovations have birthed new ways around operations and value offerings of various transport systems from air to road and water.

Similarly, the pattern of commuting experience around Lagos metropolis has been changing over the last decade. With the emergence of modern transport systems, the once famed Molue buses with packed passengers in Lagos were phased out with the introduction of new rapid transport buses that offer ease of transport. This has further led to a reduction in the demand for yellow danfo buses even during rush hours.
The usually packed bus stops were remodeled into smart bus stations with new air-conditioned buses introduced to offer comfort, ease of access, pocket friendly fares and plying dedicated routes to the delight of thousands of road users.

The crux is that in the Lagos metropolis and sub-urban communities, commuters require a modern transport system to match population growth in the fast-evolving world. This yearning has been answered with the emergence of the Lagos Bus Services Limited with its new blue buses; which have commenced operations on major Lagos roads. Below are the ways the Lagos Bus Service (LBS) will change the face of transportation in Lagos State.

1. Modern, Smart Buses

Sshh.. don’t scream; you don’t need your power bank while commuting on the LBS. The 820 buses are equipped with USB ports to charge your mobile electronic devices; cameras for security of the passengers; free internet service and a television to enhance commuting experience, and designated bus spaces (priority seats) for physically challenged, pregnant women, and the elderly. Above all, the buses will run with an electronic information system that helps with predicting departure and arrival times for every trip. In addition, you can also get information about service delays such as traffic updates just riding in a LBS. All these services will be deployed in phases.

2. Stress Free Ride

Armed with well-equipped buses to meet the demands of residents who crave convenience while in transit, the LBS service is a modern bus service that fits every class of the society. Commuters can easily visit any of the bus stations to take the air-conditioned bus services to routes such as Oshodi, Berger, Lagos Island, Ikeja among other locations and developing routes in Lagos.

3. Ghen Ghen Comfort

The LBS service is not only easily assessible for commuters who intend to access various destinations in Lagos, the buses offer comfort tailored to meet the taste of every individual. You would be able to easily purchase tickets using the electronic ticketing platform to book your next ride in any of the 820 buses as operation of the buses commence fully. The buses are currently on a pilot test run with paper tickets across select routes.

4. Trained Bus Drivers & Attendants

One of the most common sights across major bus parks (stations) in Lagos State, is the arguments between bus drivers and passengers with the bus conductors and street urchins cheering the drivers. This will now become a thing of the past as the Lagos Bus Service has trained and employed intelligent personnel as drivers of the buses. This will not only save commuters the stress of haggling prices with drivers and conductors, it will ensure they spend quality time in the buses doing the things you love.

5. Support Infrastructure

The LBS is designed to provide a travelling experience that embodies the totality of ease, comfort, and professionalism at every touchpoint, as the service has the needed support infrastructures such as bus shelters, lay-bys, bus flags, terminals, depots and bus stations provided at strategic locations along the routes to enable an enjoyable transit process for every commuter.

6. Orderliness & Professionalism

The Lagos Bus Service has the responsibility of ensuring the orderliness, proper coordination and progress of the Transport Industry in Lagos. The service offers commuters a rebranded form of transport run by professionals who understand the desire of commuters as obtained in world-class cities across the world.

Over the weekend, Lagos OAP, Osi Suave got into a serious discussion with career coach, Ogbeni Dipo on financial planning.
Known for his candid opinion, Osi declared that he is ready to let go of his weekly turn-up for something he believes will protect his dreams.
The conversation started when Ogbeni Dipo took to the streets of Twitter to advice Nigerians on how smart financial planning can lead them to the fulfilment of their goals. Citing himself as an example, he said that he would rather buy his children an insurance policy with Old Mutual than ice cream.

In agreement, Osi joined the conversation saying that he would rather put his money into an insurance plan than spend on weekly turn up. Career / Women Are Better Empowered With An Insurance Plan – Old Mutual Marketing Head by InsideMainland: 9:54am On Mar 13, 2019
As millions across the world commemorates the 2019 International Women’s Day (IWD) - a day dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women globally, the Marketing and Customer Executive, Old Mutual, Alero Ladipo said that the organisation is committed to promoting gender parity at all level just as it is supportive of women in its workforce towards achieving career goals.

She reiterates that the organisation in its support for women and the desire for a balanced society, launched the Old Mutual Women’s Network (OWN), a company initiative established to enhance healthy engagement amongst women and to create a mentoring and empowering work environment.

Speaking on the occasion of the IWD, Alero Ladipo stated that; “We must understand that women are pivotal to societal growth and are an integral part to the success of any unit. As an organisation, we have put adequate policies and processes in place to deepen equal gender participation in decision making at every leadership cadre across the Old Mutual Group. I make bold to say that Old Mutual is a fantastic place for women to work in Nigeria and across our group internationally.

“We understand that women at all levels add extraordinary value to enterprise; are capable of making smart decisions that can propel wealth creation, hence their contributions to growth has to be in focus in setting strategies and business agenda. I believe that to promote a gender balanced society, the woman must be able to attain financial security like their male counterparts. In the light of this context, I posit that no financial plan better empowers a woman than an insurance plan. In the insurance space, all genders are equally insured with same expectation in terms of compensation, which allows for a balanced society and further propels women to achieving greater goals.”

Citing vehicle insurance for instance, Mrs, Ladipo added that an insured female car-owner, who is incidentally involved in a road mishap is confident that her insurer will come through for her. She knows that with her insurance policy the damages to a third party will be effectively repaired. She fears no harassment. For Mothers who have dreams for their loved ones, irrespective of class or status in the society, can procure a unique savings plan that can help them realise their dreams, but also provide certain guarantees, a beneficiary will not be short-changed or prevented from reaching an educational goal. Such plans also affords them access to money in case of surprises or other emergencies.”

Politics / Why Is Ambode Threatening To Shut Down Lagos Markets? by InsideMainland: 7:19pm On Feb 01, 2018
Following the excess filth across parts of Lagos Mainland communities including markets across the State, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has expressed displeasure with the present state of the markets across the State adding that leaders of the various markets must prevail on their members to clean up their dirty surroundings within the next 20 days or risk closure of their markets.
The directive was issued in Alausa, Lagos Mainland, during a stakeholder’s forum with market leaders from the 57 local governments and local council development areas of the State.
Ambode, who was represented by the Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Muslim Folami said the present administration abhors the dumping of refuse on roadsides, medians, bus stops as well as markets, urging market leaders to promptly rid their environment of waste.
He said dumping of refuse within the market environment poses health hazards, discourages customers and residents from patronising stalls within the markets, thereby reducing economic activity within the market environment.

The sight of the demolition exercise at the Oshodi end of Lagos Mainland was a heartbreaking one to behold for owners whose properties were demolished.
It is more worrying for the affected owners when the payment of compensation is yet to reach an advanced stage.

Speaking to InsideMainland, one of the affected house owners in the demolition, Alhaji Aranseoluwa said although property owners in the area alongside other stakeholders were involved in series of discussions with the government, they are yet to get the compensation package from the government.

“The government is yet to fulfill their own end of the agreement. It was all talks from then till now. The house has now been pulled down, what next?” he said.
“Most people here expects that before the demolition will be carried out, we would have reached an advanced stage even if we are yet to be paid the monies due to us. Till now, all we hear is that they are compiling names but nothing about money has been said,” he added.

As a result of the exercise, more than 50 houses have been pulled down from the Oshodi

Business / Churches And Mosques Will Now Pay Tax In Lagos by InsideMainland: 8:04pm On Jan 02, 2018
In a bid to increase its internally generated revenue (IGR) for development by 100 per cent, a bill that would review Land Use Charge in the state had gone through second reading on the floor of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

During a plenary session of the House, the law tagged “A Bill for A Law To Repeal The Land Use Charge Law 2001 and Enact Land Use Charge 2017 and For Connected Purposes” was subsequently committed to the House Adhoc Committee on Finance headed by Hon. Yinka Ogundimu.

According to the Speaker of the House, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the law was all about increasing the revenue generation of the State. Obasa observed that a situation where a few consultants were working with the state governments on the collection of land use charge was not good enough, calling for increase in the number of consultants.

“We need more consultants to do the job so that the entire state could be covered in the collection of land use charge. Whatever tribunal that would be set wup to deal with offenders should have the support of the government.

“On the issue of exemptions, we cannot exempt religious organisations because most of the worship centres are making money. We could only exempt Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).” Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade had informed the House that the Bill would be going through second reading,” he said.
