Michael Jackson: A Style Retrospective.
« on: June 26, 2009, 07:20 PM »

Michael Jackson, singer, performer, eccentric, and American icon died in his Los Angeles home on June 25 after suffering a heart attack. He was just 50 years old.
In recent years, many of us had a complicated impression of Jackson, but none can deny his massive talent or the impact he had on the entertainment community worldwide. He was a musical visionary, creative in every aspect of his life--including his clothes. His outlandish, unique sequined style has influenced decades of designers, including many of the retro-'80s fashions we see on runways today. Despite the scandals of recent years, I honestly can't imagine my childhood without him.
A style tribute to the King of Pop. . . .

Michael Jackson started singing with the Jackson 5 when he was 5.
Their first album came out when he was 11.

In 1979, he struck out on his own with Off the Wall.
He registered himself in the entertainment and fashion scene with with a Tux, bright smile and his white socks combo.

His career, both musically and from a fashion standpoint, peaked in 1982: Thriller sold 26 million copies. Till date has sold over 100 million copies.

~No one but M.J. could have fearlessly pulled off such an unlikely combo. Jackson gave traditional military gear a flashy spin like only the King of Pop could. His extra-bold shoulder pads reminded us that the musical icon was in a league of his own!!

~Wearing a bright, red motorcycle jacket just wasn’t eye-catching enough for the King of Pop, our boy Mike. Mr. Jackson put the extra-zippered version on everyone’s must-have list in the 1980s making it iconic piece of American fashion.

~Aaaw @ the pic of Him & Madonna. . . .to think they're both the same age!! Am still bewildered!!

~MJ had Undeniable Style. . . .

~Jheri Curls!! You either had one or knew someone who did, we could accept that Jheri Curls were nothing less than huge in the 1980s. A large part of this popularity was due to Michael Jackson. His well-tended coif was dripping wet but we couldn’t take our eyes off.

~Fedoras were a style staple for this tastemaker and “Smooth Criminal.” Whether black or white, he wore them well.
