That's a remarkable school bro. What's your definition of a meagre stipend? I think youre among the very fortunate ones who believe funding is their birthright.

The school is a good school. If you're waiting for other decisions then weigh your chances and decide quickly, some one else will so much appreciate this funding you call "meagre".

Be quick to reject admissions you won't be going to,so many people are on waitlist, have that at the back of your mind.

The money will not do much for him though except his housing is waived too. If it were to be an RA he got, the stipend would be more. Lab assistantship does not pay much. I will advise he waits for the other school and make the best decision for him. A lot of factors will still be considered.

Can I evaluate more than one transcript at once?

Who has gone through it that can explain it better?

I "uploaded". Not really "uploaded", If I remember correctly, I had to send it to them by email along with some other documentation. That is their procedure for international students. For domestic students, it is quite different. Also, have your original degree certificate handy, they will request for it during application.

Thanks for the prompt response. I needed to be sure before paying the registration fee.

Computer Science, Fall 19.

Admits so far.

Auburn University (MS) (Grad Coordinator said they are looking for funding for me, said they had budget cuts so nothing is sure)

Bowling Green State University (MS) In state and Out of state Tuition waiver + $10,000.00 Graduate Assistantship stipend

East Tennesse State University (MS) In state and Out of state Tuition waiver - Assistantship decisions will be made next month

University of North Texas (Ph.D) Tuition waiver + Graduate Assistantship

I am just confused right now

Congratulations. UNT seems like a great choice. Did you send official transcripts to UNT or upload them during your application?

I will appreciate a reply. Thanks.

Just a little chip in as to why he may have asked you about funding. Is the PhD programme fully funded? If it is, is funding provided by the department or by professors whom students work under (i.e. your advisor/supervisor)? If funding (in part or full) is provided through the grants of professors in the department, then the question will be whether the professor in question has any current grants for his research projects. If he doesn't, that may be why he asked you specifically about funding to be sure that if he accepts you, you will be able to fund yourself. You can check online if the professor has current grants for his research projects.

Thanks so much for this. I will carry out my findings as necessary.

I can imagine how you feel about this so let me quickly share something with you.
First, a lot of professors do not respond to emails, you should be thankful he did reply.
Second, you didn't tell us the content of the mail you sent, I mean what were you seeking? Was it an assistantship, mentorship or you just wanted to establish contact with a faculty? That would explain why he asked about funding.
Third, I won't say your response was wrong but I feel it would have been more "professional". Let me show you:
I have reached out to/ contacted the grad coordinator/ department or so so so about being considered for funding but I am currently awaiting the decision.
While my example may not be perfect, I pray it shows you how passive "I am hoping" sounds. You don't just "hope" for things, you make moves, you CHASE THEM and by letting the professor know the specific steps you have taken so far, you sustain the communication.
Conclusively, I suggest you send a follow-up mail to him. I don't know what you want from him but you might just have to ask again because Nigerians are resilient, we do not go down without a fight!
P.S I am sorry if my response is long, wordy and rambling. I am having cramps and writing makes me feel better, so you might want to forgive me grin grin grin

Thanks so much for this. Yes, this is the first time a professor is responding to my mail and I have sent several. I mentioned how wonderful his latest research (summarised the research) is and asked if he will like to be my supervisor. I want to apply for PhD. in the school.

I will send a follow up mail. Thanks again.

I mailed a professor and he asked, in his response, if I have funding. I replied that I was hoping to get from the school but he has not responded since then. Was my response wrong? If yes, what's the best way to respond to such question?

Thanks.

They have generally extended their registration completion time, which I think explains the additional time spent on registration. If you call them, they would tell you that.

Just relax. B.Y Mafit is tested and trusted like Bagco Super Sac. They'll sort you out Last last.

Are you taking lectures?

The issue I have with them goes beyond registration. They need to be professional too. I just hope I don't end up losing my money.

And they stopped picking my call.

I thought they were legit after visiting their website at gregmattoeflnigeria .com and finding out that they have an alleged physical location in Lagos(I stay in Benin), and reading testimonies from other Nairaland members who claim to have registered their TOEFL through them.

so yesterday, I paid 45,000 Naira to their GT Bank account (Account name: B.Y Mafit Limited, Account number: 0051522264)
for the TOEFL registration and they promised to send me an email after registering the TOEFL. I didn't get any such email and I called them back today, they stopped picking my call.

Update
They have processed my TOEFL registration today March 21, 2019, the delay was due to the high volume of applications that they had to handle (according to the explanation they gave me).
They are legit and I will recommend them to others who intend to register the TOEFL CBT test because it is cheaper (45,000 Naira compared to $195.00 on the ets.org website).

You are really lucky that they settled it. I am currently regretting going near them. I should have done it myself and save myself the stress I am currently going through.

Congrats to all the new admits. Pray you find favour at the embassy.

Been a while I spoke here, so want to reopen the conversation. grin grin .

As for prep, once again, B.Y Mafit is still the awarded best GRE center in West Africa and they offer free Lectures, Magosh account, Manhattan account, Kaplan paperback textbook and all, for those who are having difficulties with the GRE and TOEFL or for those who want to significantly improve on their scores. Its worth checking out. www.gregmattoeflnigeria.com

As for scholarships and funding, it's getting tougher than ever before, so, you must ensure your game is tight. I've heard from some quarters the the GRE test is getting a bit harder. Unconfirmed though, so, get your hands on latest materials.

As for school selection, make your research extensively and don't just apply to a school because others are applying to it. Look closely at thier CGPA requirements and GRE score requirement. Ensure you meet the minimum requirements.

As for scholarships, the best is the one given by the school. There are scholarship awarding bodies you can take a look at though, such as the Fulbright Foreign Student Program in USA, 2019 Future Global Leaders Fellowship, ICSP Scholarships at University of Oregon USA, AAUW International Fellowships in USA for Women and Hubert Humphrey Fellowships in USA for International Students.

As for preparing for your visa interview, I'm not sure Mafit still does that but during my time there, they prepared me during the lectures, for free.

Best of luck. I'll be posting more information in due time.

I have been trying to contact B.Y.Mafit for more than 2 weeks now but their numbers are always either busy or unavailable. I want to register for TOEFL for March ending. I need to make some clarifications before paying. I might just look for another option.

Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by NoQualms1(f): 10:31pm On Feb 11, 2019
solihp:
Good afternoon everyone, so I gave GRE today grin grin

I have been following this thread for over six months now, it was just in December 2018 that I decided to apply for fall 2019 as I graduated in October, so the process was quite tedious for me. From going through several school's website to check their priority deadline and then I was able to come up with some schools whose funding deadline was either in February or March.

It also means I started preparing for GRE in December, and because I was also researching for schools to apply to, finishing up my applications, there were days when I couldn't really read for the GRE, so I would say I prepared for about 1 month and some days.

The first thing I did was to watch all magoosh videos for the Verbal and Quantitative. I took the first Magoosh online prep test and I had 158Q 146V, that was when I knew I was in soup. My verbal was bad. I remember coming here to ask for tips.

I couldn't really learn much vocabularies, learnt less than 500 grin grin, I didn't see any of them in the real exam though, so in my opinion, it's better to have a good strategy for your verbal aside the vocabularies and maybe the vocabularies can just be the upper hand you'd have.

Throughout the one month, I did alot of full practice tests(I excluded the AWA most times), I used the Magoosh vocabularies app to learn new words, I later downloaded the Manhattan mobile GRE app and subscribed for one month (about $10), I used Manhattan textbook for the Quantitative, went through Part 5 and 6, late last month, I used the Princeton review for Verbal and I learnt the act of writing down and eliminating options. Beforehand, I just answer the Verbal questions in my head. So I would say Princeton review gave a good strategy.

For AWA, I went through Kaplan textbook. I think that was all I did, some of my practice test results were:

Powerprep practice 1:162Q 143V
Magoosh: 158Q 146V
Manhattan: 158Q 152V
Magoosh: 160Q 143V
Manhattan: 161V 151V
Magoosh:163Q 145V

So you see, the practice tests results for Verbal frightened me, only Manhattan verbal gave me hope but reading through all the pages of this thread within the last two weeks, most people said Manhattan verbal questions are not a true reflection of the real test questions. So I was pretty much scared and worried but within the last few days, I was relaxed and decided to be confident, I read less too so I wouldn't be too tired on test day.

Unto my test day experience. I will post it soon grin grin

Can you please list schools whose funding deadlines are in February or March. I've been making my research too but it's being tough. Kindly help. Thanks.

Investment / Re: Mutual Funds by NoQualms1(f): 12:00pm On Feb 09, 2019
Hello all.

I have investments in Stanbic and AXA. Someone here once said he noticed a drop in his interest on Stanbic and had to complain to customer care before it was reversed. I dont monitor my account daily, if something like that happens to my account, I won't know. Just thinking of probably closing it and investing in another.

I also did a little calculation on the interest AXA paid in the last quarter (January), it was 9.12%. Isn't that ridiculous?

Conclusion - I may just take my money out and go back to treasury bills.
