The Governor stated this while speaking at the 85th birthday celebration and launch of Prelate Mbang’s memoir titled “My Life and Times” published by Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Publishing, held at the Naval Dockyard in Lagos. The event attracted many dignitaries across the country.

Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who was Chairman, Planning Committee for the event, appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel for respecting and celebrating the octogenarian, describing Mbang as a man who has never been afraid to speak truth to power.

Earlier in a special birthday message titled, "85 Hallelujah Cheers to a man of Moral Heft and Christ-like Virtues, Governor Emmanuel on behalf of the State congratulated Mbang for clocking 85.

Politics / Group Warn Senator Against Instigating Public Unrest, Insurrection Against AKSG by Oluwolex2000(m): 10:35am On Aug 25, 2021
2023: Group warn Senator against instigating public unrest, insurrection against AKSG

The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Caucus in the National Assembly, and Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East, Senator Bassey Albert has been warned against instigating public unrest, inciting the masses against the person and office of the Governor and any unconstitutional act of insurrection that may derail the prevailing peace in the State.

The Ibom Democratic Forum, IDF, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Uyo on Tuesday 24 August, 2012 According to the press release signed by the group's President and Secretary, Chief Solomon Andem and Adede Ifiok Asikpo Esq, the group noted with dismay that stoking the fire of division, blackmail, character assassination and violence has been the trademark of Senator Akpan, warning that Akwa Ibom people will no longer tolerate his anti democratic antics any more.

The Statement read in parts, "The recent press statement against the Special Assistant Media to the Governor by Senator Bassey Akpan is just a smokescreen of his agenda for the 2023 battle. We know that the main target in the failed propaganda was the Governor whom he tried to incite the people against. These unjustifiable act capable of derailing the prevailing peace and unity in the State is totally unacceptable and unjustified, very unbecoming of a man who is aspiring to occupy the office of Governor of the state".

The group warned that the Ibiono Ibom born Senator is always fond of issuing false alarm whenever an election circle draws near, through the release of baseless and unsubstantiated allegations just to curry favour and Pitt from the electorate.

"We recall in 2014, prior to the 2015 election when Senator Bassey Albert raised his usual false alarm against Governor Godswill Akpabio, accusing the then Governor of wanting to kill his elder brother, Ime Albert in order to implicate him. This was OBA in his usual element all in a desperate bid to whip public sentiment, sympathy and votes, a gimmick that failed even before it began".

"Senator Bassey Albert should realize by now that blackmail, intimidation and threats won't give him the Governorship ticket and that he cannot stampede or hold the Governor to ransom through falsehood to compel the Governor to endorse him for 2023. If he feels he is popular, then he should be ready to face other candidates in the field at the primaries where he can test his so called popularity rather than get his proxies in the media to launch needless attacks against the Governor, the Government or appointees of the Governor".

It could be recalled that Senator Bassey Albert had in a press release dates August 21, 2021, titled, "PIB Analysis; Attention Rev Richard Peters", falsely accused the Media Assistant to the Governor of making very erroneous input as regards the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) recently passed by the 9th Senate and signed into law by President Buhari, while on Air during XL106. 5 Fm breakfast current affairs programme ''Press Club''.

But it turned out Rev Richard Peters, was not even a guest on the radio program and could therefore had made the alleged statement.

The release stated that, "In particular, his comment on the current serving House of Representatives Members and Senators was quite disparaging, incoherent, subjective and mostly not based on informed perspectives as he must understand that as against the hoax media claim that the Senators from Akwa Ibom State and indeed South South Senators were not present to vote during the passage of the bill is NOT true as there is a video evidence of what Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert (OBA) for instance said before he voted alongside other Akwa Ibom Senators as the bill was later passed".

"It is also not factual for him to insinuate that the Senators especially from Akwa Ibom and indeed South South Nigeria did nothing about pushing for an increment of the 3percent benefiting fund for oil producing communities as he is not in the know of the legislative undercurrent in the Senate before the bill got through especially as regards harmonizing divergent interests. Richard Peters and other analysts on the said radio programme must understand that the Senate is a make up of Nigeria with 109 Distinguished Senators, as such the interest of Nigerian Senate overrides any personal or sectional interest".

"What is interesting at the moment is the fact that the 9th Senate has succeeded in getting the bill passed and assented to President Buhari after a very long brainstorming sessions of so many years".

The statement continued, "Kudos must be given to the 9th Senate joint committee on Petroleum Resources to include: Upstream, Downstream and Gas Resources of which Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert (OBA) is a Co-Chair, the House of Representatives counterparts and indeed the entire National Assembly for a job well done".

"The 3 percent derivative for host communities can be more if the communities are supportive of the activities of the oil companies especially as regards the social responsibilities obligations even as it is germane to reason that it will be achievable".

"We must say that Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert (OBA), his colleagues and the House of Representatives Members in the current National Assembly have put in their best in giving effective representation to Akwa Ibom people and Nigeria in their capacities so far"

"We urge Rev Richard Peters and his co-travellers to always do some research before they go for a radio programme or any other public space for that matter in order not to express their ignorance especially with regards to the PIB discuss on XL 106.5FM earlier this morning".

"The public by this statement are implored to discountenance the misinformation spewed by Richard Peters and the other analysts on the radio programme in question", the statement read.

When the Senator realised he has goofed and that his attempt to blackmail the Governor has failed as usual as his allegation was totally false, unwarranted and baseless, his media team hurriedly busy deleted the press release from all the social media platforms he published but the damage had already being done.

The group called on the Governor not to be distracted but to remain focus in his quest to ensure he leaves behind an industrialized state with massive infrastructural projects that will aid the realization of his Industrialization policy for the good of Akwa Ibom people, assuring him of the continuous support and solidarity of the group and Akwa Ibom people come 2023.

They accused the Senator of sponsoring attacks on the newly formed Maintain Peace Movement, MPM, a pan Akwa Ibom grassroot mobilisation movement, wondering if he is against peace in the state. They statement accused to the Senator of sponsoring media attacks against Fathers of Faith in the state and causing unwarranted social media attacks on the Governor who's only offence is by governing the state in a peaceful manner.

IDF wondered if Senator Albert wants to return the state to the dark, gory days where Wives and Daughters were abducted, raped and murdered in cold blood and Father's were kidnaped and killed in the most cruel and barbaric manner, stating that the Senator's action of late has further proved to the electorate that Akwa Ibom State will not be saved if he (Senator Bassey Albert) is elected Governor in 2023.

The group called on the Senator to call his "attack dogs" to order and always verify his claims before rushing to the press in order to spare himself avoidable embarrassment. IDF also advised him to stop further attacks on MPM as the people have embraced peace and will never go back to the dark days when insecurity, killings and state sponsored assassination was prevalent in the state.

Politics / Gov. Emmanuel To CAN: I'll Complete All Ongoing Projects Before 2023 by Oluwolex2000(m): 11:58pm On Aug 21, 2021
...Urges Church leaders to rally congregation for voter registration, Covid sensitization, ors

...wants group to tone down rthetoric of 2023 succession politics

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has vowed to completing all ongoing projects in the state before 2023, but lamented the global challenge posed by Covid-19 in the world which has affected manufacturers to produce adequate quantity to ship to Nigeria.

The Governor who was the Special Guest of Honour stated this at a breakfast meeting with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter on Friday, at Ibom Icon And Golf Resort, Uyo also called on Christian leaders to support his administration in fervent prayers to achieve his vision as encapsulated in the 8 point agenda to Akwa Ibom people, emphasizing the need to play down on the pressure for a successor as his successor will be chosen by God.

He called on Christians in the state to take active role in leadership and governance where they can contribute to the growth of the society and advised fathers of faith under the umbrella of CAN in their various churches to create the consciousness of the emergence of the third wave of COVID-19 to their members to adhere to the safety measures, maintain high level of hygiene in order to reduce the rate of contracting the virus.

The Governor urged Christian leaders to create the awareness and sensitization about Voters’ Registration Exercise in their congregation, maintaining that Christians ought to take advantage of the exercise including registration of National Identification Number (NIN) in order to put the state ahead in data collection.

In his words, “Please the continuous voters’ registration is going on please can we endeavor to register, so many Christians are not registered voters.
All this ones we are saying will not make meaning if we don’t go out to register. When you are preaching in church ask your members have you gone to register? We keep cheating ourselves as a people, this National Identification number if I check inside this room so many pastors do not have it, so let us not take these things for granted because some of these things are used as indices for revenue sharing but we don’t know. Population is one of it’’.

He called on Christian leaders in the state to downplay the politics of who takes over from him in 2023, saying the recent wave of religious politics of who his successor will be is distracting.

According to Governor Emmanuel, ‘’It is only in Akwa Ibom state that you hear of the call for successor, in Abia, Cross River or Rivers state I have not heard, why is it only in Akwa Ibom day and night governor successor, successor they should leave me alone. The vote that you gave us let us give the dividends of democracy, let us even account for it. We cannot be a country where we think only of election and not the next generation’’.

“Please the noise is just too much, show me successor, even if God has shown me I am not going to show them yet, let’s work. All said and done gone are the days when Christians will queue behind and allow those who have no business to it, I am sure the event of the past six years has taught us in this country that Christians should no more go backwards but be involved and participate. If Christians think politics is so dirty murky waters of politics who are people who will make the water clean?", he admonished.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigerian (CAN), Akwa Ibom State, Rev. Ndueso Ekwere, affirmed the support of Christian community in the state for governor Udom Emmanuel, in his industrialization drive and the peaceful disposition of the state, pledging to stand by the governor in his succession plan.

Rev. Ekwere, conveyed the appeal of the Christian leaders to governor Udom Emmanuel to name a Christian successor that will preserve the legacies he has bequeathed to the state.

‘’Your Excellency, we want to say emphatically that our major issues and reason for this meeting with you today is to appeal to you to preserve the legacies you have bequeathed to all Akwa Ibomites through industrialization, massive infrastructural development, you must not allow anybody who will worship God in pretence to succeed you in 2023”.

In his exhortation, Bishop Emma Isong, who tagged his message ‘The Aaronic Legacy’ from Heb: 5: 4, noted that it is God who makes leaders despite our efforts involvement in politicking and campaigns, but once God’s Grace singles you out, He qualifies you for the position.

High point of the event was a vote of confidence passed on Governor Udom Emmanuel and declaration of support of the Christian community for his administration.

Politics / OSUN APC: Osun Panel Dismisses Petition By Aregbesola Faction by Oluwolex2000(m): 12:52pm On Aug 20, 2021
OSUN APC: Osun Panel Dismisses Petition By Aregbesola Faction

Efforts by a faction loyal to former Osun State governor and Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola to take over the All Progressives Congress structures in Osun State ahead next year governorship election appears to have been dashed.

Tribune Online checks revealed that Ambassador Obed Wadzani led a five-man Ward Congress Appeal panel put in place by the ruling party national secretariat has dismissed the petition filed by the Osun Progressives, (TOP).

The group led by the former chairman of the party in the South West state, Reverend Adelowo Adebiyi, has the Minister of Interior as its patron.

The Appeal Panel in its report sighted by Tribune Online which has since been submitted to the APC Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee dismissed the petitions filed by the TOP, as it noted that they could not be substantiated.

The Ambassador Wadzani Panel in its report maintained that the Ward Congress Committee led by Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye complied with the party guidelines in the discharge of the assignment it was saddled with by the Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni led CECPC.

“The positions canvased by the petitioners are considered by this committee to be unfounded. The guidelines issued by the National Secretariat were complied with by the ward congress committee and the Osun State Caretaker committee. Therefore, all the petitions should be dismissed.”

The five-man Appeal Panel equally frowned at what it called duplication of the petition by the leadership of the TOP group.

It observed that “All the petitions submitted are the same in wordings, contents, and structure except local governments and wards,” thereby giving the impression that “all the petitions are written by one person.”

In a startling revelation, the report disclosed that a serving lawmaker representing, Atakumosa West LG told the panel that there was no petition that emanated from his council faulting the conduct of the Ward Congress.

It read in part: “Hon. Babajide Festus Komolafe (member representing the LG in the state House of Assembly) came in while Rev. Adelowo Adebiyi was present, to testify that all the petitions from the LG were forged, that no one sent a petition from Atakumosa West LG (and) he went further to allege that one of the supposed petitioners, Olayinka Folorunsho died six months before the petition was written.”

The panel further noted that all the petitions submitted “are from ten local governments – thirty wards (submitted to the national secretariat of the party), four wards submitted to the congress appeal committee in Osogbo.

It follows, therefore, that twenty local governments (out of thirty local governments), two hundred and ninety-eight wards (out of three hundred thirty-two wards) are not contested.”

In addition to asking the CECPC to dismiss the petition by the factional group, the Appeal Panel, however, urged the national secretariat of the APC to set in motion the process for reconciliation of all those that are aggrieved within the party in the state in view of the elections coming up in the state next year, which is a forerunner to the presidential election in 2023.”

Checks by Tribune Online revealed that the Ward Appeal Panel had disclosed in the course of its assignment that it received 32 petitions from party members across the state.

Further checks by Tribune Online revealed that the Ambassador Wadzani Committee was almost undermined last weekend as thugs stormed the party national secretariat to disrupt the Committee from executing its assignment.

Health / Covid-19: AKSG Takes Custody Of 63,336 Doses Of Modena Vaccine by Oluwolex2000(m): 10:40pm On Aug 19, 2021
Covid-19: AKSG takes custody of 63,336 doses of Modena vaccine

...places State on Red Alert to battle 3rd wave

The Akwa Ibom State Government, AKSG, has taken delivery of 63,336 doses of Modena vaccine. The vaccines were received at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Coordinator, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association and other stakeholders in the health sector. Also, the Government has placed the State on Red Alert as it prepares to contain the Third wave of the Corona Virus pandemic.

Addressing the media at his 25th Akwa Ibom State Covid-19 Management Update, the Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Covid-19 Committee and Secretary to State Government, SSG, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, said all hands must be on deck to contain the Third wave of the pandemic as "The time to act is now!"

He admonished that the situation calls fr caution on the part of all as it has since been confirmed by NCDC that the Delta variant of covid-19 virus found in other parts of the country is in the State which partly explains the rapid increase in the number of cases in Akwa Ibom because of its high infectivity rate.

"It has therefore, become imperative that we take actions to rein in the spread of the infection in the state. We have however noted, sadly, that the necessary precautions and guidelines earlier recommended are hardly being adhered to by most people thereby jeopardizing our health and making the control of the pandemic very difficult. In view of the above, government is taking the more proactive steps to combat the pandemic going forward", he said.

According to Dr Ekuwem, part of measures put it place includes rapping up vaccination which would be made possible by the 63,336 doses of the Modena vaccine the state received, noting that the vaccine is safe and effective and will be available at designated areas in the State capital and in the different LGAs.

He called for enforcement of Covid-19 guidelines which includes; the proposed use face mask, washing of hands regularly with soap and clean running water, the use of appropriate alcohol-based hand sanitizer, adherence to social distancing of not less than one meter at all times and avoiding overcrowded areas especially indoors.

Others include the adherence to social distancing in tricycles and in Mini-buses, the need for Religious houses to run at half capacity and services should last not more than one hour, the compliance with all Covid-19 preventive measures by Hotels, sit-outs, clubs, schools, transport companies, supermarkets, Banks, pharmacies and the urgent need to report any suspicious symptoms such as fever, cough, difficulty in breathing and body pains and weakness to the nearest Covid-19 facility.

"All Covid-19 monitoring mechanisms were reactivated to ensure strict compliance with Covid-19 guidelines and protocols. Enforcement teams shall henceforth apprehend anyone flouting this directive. Businesses, worship places and corporate organizations risk shut down if not compliant with the directives above", he warned.

Politics / Aregbesola And His Osun Defender Satanic Editorial Contents by Oluwolex2000(m): 5:08pm On Aug 18, 2021
Aregbesola and his Osun Defender satanic editorial contents

By Lanre Akeju

The choice of my title is deliberate and here are some of the justifications: Editorial opinions and contents to a large extent represent the strong and unambiguous voice of any newspaper and by extension that of the promoters and patrons of such newspaper. Therefore, the fact that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, a former Osun Governor, is the sole promoter and patron of Osun Defender, the title of my piece is justified.

He may not have directly written most of the contents. He, however, cannot deny knowledge of same, especially when the contents and intent are topical and political. But the hypocrisy of this Mullah-turned-politician stinks.

Nigerians have always known that some so-called religious Nigerians-turned-politicians are hypocrites. What most Nigerians did not know is that their hypocrisy in politics would be elevated to a ridiculous level, the way it is being displayed today by Aregbesola and his co-travellers.

Although there are several instances that lay credence to the above assertion, nothing exposes the Osun Defender and Aregbesola’s hypocrisy like its public display of anger each time the Osun Government under the leadership of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola makes any gain.

The people of Osun never wanted single uniform for schools and all that is associated with it. Aregbesola did it with fiat. Oyetola listened to the people. He reviewed it. He was applauded. Aregbesola and Osun Defender came up with almost two-page editorial to justify their own position.

Again, the people clamoured for the scrapping of the unpopular parliamentary system of government at the local government level, especially because events in the three years of that practice have clearly shown that no cost has been saved as being envisaged, contrary to the claim by Aregbesola and his co-travelers.

But rather than commend the State government, Aregbesola’s Osun Defender, in its editorial at the time castigated Oyetola. But if the popular axiom that he, who must come to equity must come with clean hands is anything to go by, then, Aregbesola and his co-travellers are the least qualified to lecture anyone let alone Oyetola, who has since returned the party to the people as against what was obtainable under Aregbesola, on democratic tenets.

But if one may ask, if indeed it is about democracy and if good governance is the target, where was Osun Defender when their patron dubiously put in place a caretaker committee for over five years? By Osun Defender's admission, election was conducted in 2018. So, what happened between 2010 and 2018 when their patron held sway? Was it not this same Aregbesola that ran Osun like a Sole Administrator, refusing to appoint Commissioners to form the State Executive Council for almost an eternity?

Again, only last week, his supporters were said to have attacked the party secretariat. By yesterday, his paper which usually comes out on a Friday, hurriedly put together their lies yesterday and presented them as editorial contents. Yet, no single picture to show they were the ones attacked unlike the picture that accompanied their lies after the Ward Congress.

I really do not know why Oyetola's media handlers are shying away from drawing the battle line when it is obvious these guys do not mean well for the governor and the government.

As a bonafide Osun man, I will always support any move geared towards making Osun better than Aregbesola left it.

Akeju writes from Osun.

Gov Emmanuel pays tribute to Gen IBB at 80

...Says Ex Military President combines charter with charisma

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has described former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida as a leader who has effortlessly combined character with charisma in his leadership and a leader with a Pan-Nigeria disposition.

The Governor who made these remarks at Minna during the birthday celebration of the former Military President at the Hilltop Mansion, Minna, was accompanied by the PDP National Legal Adviser, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem, Member, House of Representatives, Hon. Pat Ifon, Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong and the Governor's Chief of Protocol, Edmond Uffang to the 80th birthday celebration of the former President.

The Akwa Ibom delegation upon arrival was received by his colleague, the Governor of Niger State, His Excellency, Abubarkar Sani Bello.

Governor Emmanuel who hailed former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), on his 80th birthday in a message he personally signed, titled '80 Hearty Cheers To A Great Nigerian Statesman', said, "On behalf of the Government and the ever grateful people of Akwa Ibom State, I join millions of other Nigerians, your friends and associates to celebrate you today, on the occasion of your 80th Birthday".

He described Babangida as an inspiration to many saying, "looking through our socio-political landscape today, there is no doubt that your actions have inspired millions to dream more, learn more, do more and become more. Quoting John Quincy Adams, he prayed God to grant the former leader more years in good health and sound mind, so he could continue to inspire faith amongst Nigerians.

Governor Emmanuel specifically showered encomiums on the former military president for hearkening to the desires of Akwa Ibom people in 1987 by approving the creation of Akwa Ibom State which he noted has today become Nigeria's ''Best Kept Secret".

"On a personal level, 34 years ago, you hearkened to pleas of our Forefathers when you gave us, what today, has become Nigeria’s "Best Kept Secret", our dear State, Akwa Ibom. We remain eternally grateful. This, by itself, is a worthy legacy that will endure for generations.

"As you turn 80 years today, our collective prayer is that our ever Benevolent God, grants you more fruitful years in good health and a sound mind, so you will continue to inspire faith in those who believe in deepening the cords of our unity, fairness and enduring spirit of Brotherhood", he declared.

As early as 8 am, members of the APC in the state thronged the Osun APC Secretariat in their thousands with petitions from the majority of the wards.

As of the time of filing this report, the appeal committee is yet to arrive at the secretariat, while the APC members continue to troop in.

In a statement signed by Barr Femi Odufowokan, Secretary, APC Ward Congress Appeal Committee, said that “We are studying all the oral evidence, documents tendered and petitions received in Osun state with all the seriousness it deserves, we shall submit our findings and reports to the National Secretariat of the APC accordingly in due time”.

“Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress meeting was held on Friday 13th of August,2021 at the party secretariat, along Gbongan road, Osogbo where we stated our clear motives and intentions to entertain the petitions received by the national headquarters of our party on the APC ward congress held on Saturday, 31st of July, 2021

“On Saturday, 14th of August 2021, we sat as a committee using the State Party Secretariat for the adoption, verbal complaints, and testimony of all the petitioners contained in the petition submitted in Ten (10) local Government areas of the state. We sat for over seven hours to listen attentively to all the petitioners available and verify their claims during cross-examinations at the State Party Secretariat, Osogbo.

“During our sitting today, petitions submitted from two (2) local governments namely Atakumosa West and Ede North were withdrawn, owing to the discoveries of the forged signatures of the undersigned members of the party used in forwarding the petition, as those named as the author of those petitions denied having anything to do with the petition.

“They however pleaded to withdraw those petitions. In Boripe local government, only one of the petitioners, out of five that signed the petition appeared before the committee as others were not available. The only person that signed is claimed by the ward congress committee Secretary, who we heard his testimony, to have decamped to PDP.

“Toward the end of the ward congress appeal committee sitting some fellows were unruly, but the law enforcement agencies were very professional in providing adequate security for the committee members and party faithful around.

“We are studying all the oral evidence, documents tendered and petitions received in Osun state with all the seriousness it deserves, we shall submit our findings and reports to the National Secretariat of the APC accordingly in due time. We want to thank all party members, security agencies, and members of the press for their cooperation and understanding in the cause of the assignment in Osun state.” The statement read.

Update on Minna-Bida Road.

With compensation of all structures along Kpakungu already paid and the electricity poles being readjusted to pave way, the second lane of the first phase of dualisation of 15km of the 82km Minna-Bida road has commenced and will continue with the dualisation which will terminate in Bida.

The Government, is in the know of the heavy traffic and the hardship experienced by users plying the road which is why it has reached an agreement with the contractor that the road must be of the highest possible standard. The State Government will not accept any compromise of quality in the reconstructing and dualising this all-important road.

The Niger State Government regrets whatever inconvenience this reconstruction work may cause and is urging the public to exercise patience as the road continues to undergo reconstruction. #LoloIsWorking.

Osun APC Ward Congresses: Only candidates who got nomination forms, passed screening process were declared winners - Committee Chair

... says Committee members held stakeholders’ meeting with party chieftains prior to the Congress

The Osun National Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Congress has disclosed that only candidates who collected nomination forms, passed through the screening process and participated in the congress were declared winners.

The Committee also reiterated that the exercise was carried out in line with the principles and guidelines of the party as enshrined in its Constitution and in accordance with the directive of the national leadership of the APC.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye who stated these while addressing a press conference in Osogbo on Monday, at the State party secretariat, expressed satisfaction with the Ward Congresses held in Osun at the weekend, describing it as huge success.

He also debunked insinuations making the round that members of the Committee did not meet with stakeholders of the party before exercise, saying those peddling such insinuations were on a self-serving motive.

Elegbeleye disclosed that the Committee met with stakeholders of the APC in the State including three former deputy governors, serving members of the National Assembly, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, among other key stakeholders of the party.

He therefore noted that it would be hypocritical of any discerning mind and member of the party to say that those whom the Committee met with are not stakeholders of the APC in Osun.

Speaking further, he said: "We came in on Friday and held a Stakeholders’ meeting with the leaders of the party who are critical stakeholders of the party. This stakeholders’ meeting had the Governor in attendance, with three former Deputy Governors, Speaker of State House of Assembly, members of the National Assembly among other leaders of the party.

"So, you can not say such generality of the party's leaders that we met are not representatives of the people. We actually met with those we all know as leaders of the party. They are indeed the leaders of the party.

"What we did on Saturday was to ensure that only those who got and filled nomination forms, passed through screening process participated in the Ward Congresses, and it is only this set of people that can be declared the winners of the Ward Congresses.

"We were given the mandate from the National Secretariat, so, there is no way we will declare those who didn't collect nomination forms, who didn't fill them and who didn't pass through the screening process as winners.

"So, it is those who participated in the Congress who collected forms, filled forms, passed through screening exercise that we can say are eligible.

"I have the forms of each of the three senatorial districts with me and I am using this opportunity, on behalf of my colleagues in Congress Committee to declare those who were screened as elected representatives and new executive of each of the wards they represent."

The Press Conference, which held at the Osun APC Secretariat had in attendance the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye; Caretaker Chairman of the Party, Prince Gboyega Famodun; members of the recently inaugurated Caretaker Committee of the Local Government Areas, Local Council Development Areas; Council Areas and Administrative Offices; party's stalwarts; members of the press; among others.

A'Ibom Gov congratulates Akwa United FC over. 2020/21 NPFL win

As reigning champions trash MFM FC 5-2 to win trophy

...Says his vision is for Akwa United to win CAF

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has congratulated Akwa United Football Club for their historic and emphatic 5-2 victory over Mountain of Fire Ministries (MFM) FC to be crowned Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) champions for the first time in 25 years.

The Governor who watched Akwa United live at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Nest of Champions) on Sunday, amidst jubilating spectators, singing and hailing their teams, acknowledged God’s mercies upon the team to emerge league leaders after a scintillating performance at home.

In his words, ’I want to thank all Akwa Ibomites both in home and at the diaspora, for their support and prayers today Akwa Ibomites wherever you are I am proud of you and I am also proud to an Akwa Ibomite. I know you have said that never in history has a team from this entire region risen to win two FA cups, and a league trophy by one governor, how you can explain that? You know one thing sums it all only God!’’.

He stated that his vision for the team is to conquer Africa at the Continental League games, and promised to give the team the necessary support to feature at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, maintaining that the team has not only brought laurels to the state, but has been a good investment yielding returns.

‘’I told them that first, you must make an investment, secondly, you must make a good investment, thirdly, you must ensure good returns. People can make an investment but it’s not a good investment, some can make a good investment but it can’t yield good return, so if you are a good investor, your investment must be a good investment and must also yield return. I think the entire State has made a good investment and the investment is yielding good return".

Continuing, he said:-

"Today they have conquered Nigeria, we are looking forward to conquered Africa and I will give them the maximum support to make sure they conquered Africa once we conquer Africa, we’ll go to World Club tournament then we will conquer the World that’s our vision”.

“…it doesn’t only begin and end in football, if you look at when we came in our first term when we started with our 5- point agenda, you could see under the youth development sub theme we expressed a lot desire to more. This is what actually motivated us to set up sports centers in the 10 Federal Constituencies to train our people not only in football, you can see the first junior Commonwealth gold medalist, Aniekeme is from Akwa Ibom he came out of our summer sports championship.

"Today I will be surprised if the Super Eagles do not take this team to represent Nigeria, it means they don’t want to win a trophy, the whole team represent Nigeria in any tournament, they would have been at Olympics I am sure they would have gotten a gold today”, he submitted.

Politics / In Osun, Party Stakeholders Dump Aregbesola by Oluwolex2000(m): 10:47pm On Jul 30, 2021
In Osun, party stakeholders dump Aregbesola
. Pitch tent with Oyetola over party Congress

The seemingly crisis of confidence between immediate past Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola, came to a head on Friday, as party leaders and stakeholders shun the meeting called by Aregbesola and instead showed up at the stakeholders’ meeting, convened by the State party executives.

The stakeholders’ meeting, which was at the instance of the All Progressives Congress, APC National Committee for Osun State Ward Congress, had in attendance all the critical party leaders in the State, including Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, three former deputy governors -Senator Iyiola Omisore, Prince Sooko Adewoyin and Mrs. Titi Laoye-Ponle - and Osun Speaker, Timothy Owoeye, Senate’s spokesman, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, members of the National Assembly, the lawmakers from the State House of Assembly, leaders from the nine federal constituencies in State and State excise among others.

At the meeting, which came barely four hours after Aregbesola had summoned a similar meeting at his Oramiyan House, in Osogbo, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye said the members of the Committee just arrived the State on Friday contrary to the insinuations being peddled around that they had been in the State for days.

The APC Ward Congress Committee Chairman also said that none of the members of the Committee was neither kidnapped nor abducted by anyone as being speculated, saying they arrived Osun late due to logistics needed to ensure smooth process.

While promising that the Committee would do everything within its powers to ensure a transparent, accountable and fair Congress before, during and after the exercise, Elegbeleye said: “As a matter of fact, we got the materials by 5:00pm yesterday (Thursday) at the National Headquarters of our party, Abuja, and as we all know, we have to move down to Osun.

"It was not our fault that we didn't come here earlier. I want our people to know that I was not kidnapped by anyone. Nobody kidnapped us.

" We are here to do a very good job and we are hopeful that we are going to get the required support from every member of the party. Osun is peaceful and we are confident of the fact that the Omoluabi ethos which the State is known for will be displayed throughout the conduct of the exercise.

"We are going to be transparent, fair and open to ensure that the entire process is free, fair, credible and acceptable to all.”

On his part, Speaker Owoeye said:”I am confident in the fact that Mr Governor is Omoluabi to the core. That is what we are enjoying in the State. His simplicity has made us to move the State forward.

"Congress exercise is a way to renew all the party excos across the States and to the national level and in Osun, we are prepared to have a smooth Congress across the State and I want to assure you that as far as this State is concerned we have adopted consensus. Any other thing contrary to what we have done here is null and void.”

Also speaking, Senator Ajibola Bashir said: “Although we are looking forward to the Ward Congress tomorrow, to us, it is a very significant and fundamental for many reasons. One, our Governor is a member representing our region on the National Caretaker Committee of our party. So, it is significant for us to work collectively for the success of the exercise here as a vote of confidence for my Governor and competence to the party.

"Secondly, it is also important for us to know that a strong and virile party is essential to the development of our party and advancement and development under the leadership of our Governor. And beyond that, the significance is also underscored by the fact that a date has been fixed for the next Governorship election in the State.

"So, tomorrow is very significant towards achieving the goal of sustaining the power by the political party in the State and I pray we will all achieve that. It is about about electing EXCO alone, it is about consolidating, uniting and creating cohesive and energize the party for the people of Osun. The tomorrow Congress is very important because the July 16th, 2022 Governorship election will be about the last general outing of our party to February 18th general elections.

"So, we should take it with all seriousness. I am talking about the mode that has been adopted. I am a member of Osogbo Federal Constituency Congress Planning Committee, and I know that yesterday, a motion was moved and seconded for the adoption of mode of consensus for the emergence of new executives.

"The collective leadership of the party in the State had spoken and they have spoken for unity. So, as much as possible, consensus will be adopted but it doesn't mean that we are week to conduct elections free, fair and transparent in that regard.”

Former Deputy Governor, Mrs Titi Laoye- Ponle said, "I just want to reassure that we are very peaceful in our State and our Omoluabi ethos will be reflected in the conduct of the Congress."

On his part, Senator Iyiola Omisore said: "I want to assure the people particularly members of the media that we are for free, credible and all inclusive ward congress tomorrow. We have adopted consensus as mode of conducting the Congress tomorrow."
