Who is the richest dog in the world? How much could the richest dog possibly be worth? We’ve compiled a list of a few of the best known, wealthiest dogs from around the world. The saying, “A dog’s life” takes on a whole new meaning once you’ve made the list of the richest dogs in the world!

Gunther IV: Countess Karlotta Libenstein of Germany left approximately $106 million to her German Shepherd, Gunther III in 1992. Her trustees invested the money and tripled the fortune. When Gunther IV was born, he officially became the wealthiest dog alive. It has been reported that his fortune has grown to more than $372 million.

Toby Rimes: The Poodle inherited $80 million from New York owner Ella Wendel.

Trouble: Leona Helmsey left $12 million to her dog Trouble. Helmsley’s brother Alvin Rosenthal has been appointed guardian of the white Maltese Terrier until it dies, when it will be buried beside Helmsley in a mausoleum in New York State.

Flossie: Drew Barrymore placed her Beverly Hills home, valued at $3 million, in trust with her Yellow Lab mutt “Flossie” as a reward for alerting her that her house was on fire in 2002.

Tina & Kate: Nora Hardwell left her Collie crosses the run of her home and five acres of land in Peasedown St John, near Bath, as well as $1 million to be spent on their every whim.

Jasper & Jason: Brewery heiress, Diana Myburgh, left $50,000 trust funds each to Jasper, a Labrador-Doberman mix and Jason, a Whippet when she died in 1995. Their inheritance was invested and has now tripled in value

Sports / Champion England Boxer Faces Deportation To Nigeria Because His Parent by onemmanuel(m): 1:22am On Dec 10, 2017
29-year-old Bilal Fawaz faces been deported out of the UK to Nigeria from where his parents emigrated when he was just 14, Daily Mail reports.
Fawaz, who refers to himself as Kevin, was taken to the UK by his cousin who promised his father would be arriving soon.
Fawaz said he was treated “like a slave” and ran away, and after a life involving bad gangs and getting shot once and stabbed 25 times, he became a boxer.
He has since represented the UK 6 times in boxing, he is currently ranked the 3rd best middleweight in England, and was the 2012 ABA light-middleweight champion.
The Home Office rejected his application to remain in the UK, and declared his marriage to a British citizen void.
Accordng to Daily Mail, he was arrested and taken to the Tinsley House Immigration Removal Centre in Gatwick on November 29.
Fawaz says his mother is dead and he has no idea where his father is.
He also says he’s stateless, as his parents were Lebanese immigrants to Nigeria, and did not have Nigerian citizenship themselves. He said:
I have no other family to go back to, I don’t know anyone in Nigeria or anything about it – all I know is here.
Imagine how it feels to represent a country and then to have that country turn around and put you in what feels like a prison.

Romance / Re: Are Men Really Attracted To Their Wives After Marriage? by onemmanuel(m): 12:46pm On Dec 07, 2017
SDLovers:
They should but unfortunately that’s not the case in most marriages these days. Otherwise there wouldn’t be so much divorce. Now before you start on me, I know that the reason for lots of divorce is not just because of lack of attraction between couples but some could be especially if it’s the guy that’s asking for it.

Just as most men will find their wives unattractive after marriage so will most women find their husbands unattractive after marriage. Now the reason for lack of attraction is up for debate and it does vary. In most cases the reasons could be so buried deep in most people subconsciousness that they might find it difficult to actually put a finger to it so the reason such couples should seek professional advice.

But on a more deeper level; attraction between couples after marriage has something to do with the reasons for marring someone and the expectations after marriage. If someone gets married for the wrong reasons or have too high expectations from their spouses, the daily grind and effort that is needed to keep up the union will break them up. Such a person will have little or no reason to push through the difficulties.

Attraction fluctuates during the cause of marriage but if you got married for the right reasons for YOU/BOTH OF YOU and you have reasonable expectations then keeping up and maintaining attraction wouldn’t be so hard.

Now the sixty-four million-dollar questions is how do you keep up and maintain such attraction? Or better still, do YOU want to keep up and maintain the attraction? If got married for the right reasons and if you have reasonable expectations and YOU REALLY want to keep up and maintain the attraction you will find imaginative ways to do that.
if the marriage is based on LOVE before they wedded, I BELIEVE ATTRACTION REMAINS FOR THE COUPLE,
I Can not wait to get married on SATURDAY, ALL NAIRALANDERS ARE INVITED

Science/Technology / Solar Energy Vs. Fossil Fuels: How Do They Compare? by onemmanuel(m): 11:43am On Dec 07, 2017
If you’ve been following the ongoing battle between solar energy vs. fossil fuels, it might seem like the predominant resources on which the global economy depends – oil, coal and natural gas – will be completely phased out of existence. In reality, these resources still power most of the planet, while renewable resources like solar and wind only contribute some two to three percent of global energy capacity. This reality check begs the following question: how does solar really stack up against fossil fuels, and why is there so much excitement about the growth of solar?
Solar energy vs fossil fuels
In terms of environmental impact, solar power is a much more optimal resource than fossil fuels. In terms of reliable application, coal and natural gas have the edge. The ultimate way to compare solar energy to fossil fuels is by cost, where solar has quickly caught up with its nonrenewable counterparts.
Is solar power cheaper than coal and other fossil fuels?
Comparing the cost of various energy sources is far from simple. Government subsidies play a major role in shaping the growth potential for a new power source, which means that making an “apples to apples” comparison of the costs of solar energy vs. fossil fuels side-by-side is a complicated task.
G20 vs the U.S.: the fossil fuel paradox
The nations of the Group of Twenty (G20) may have agreed to begin phasing out fossil fuels in 2009 due to its inefficient and polluting qualities, but not every G20 member is following through on its word. According to Oil Change International’s report, while the G20 makes up more than 85% of global GDP, these top economies are spending $452 billion every year to subsidize fossil fuels.
Curious to know who is the largest contributor of fossil fuel subsidies in the world? The answer is right here. The United States has continued to subsidize fossil fuels at a higher rate than any other nation in the world, even under the environmentally progressive Obama Administration. With fossil fuel advocates already lined up for the incoming Trump Administration, the next era of American energy will likely continue on its same course of heavy fossil fuel subsidization.
Interested in solar but can’t put it on your roof? Community solar is the option for you. Learn more
How energy subsidies play the biggest role
When we compare the cost of solar energy vs. fossil fuels, we have to factor in the relative subsidies that are keeping costs low. In the case of solar power, the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) currently covers 30 percent of any U.S. solar installation and will do so until 2021 for the residential sector. The commercial sector will retain a permanent 10 percent tax credit for solar.
While renewable energy skeptics have criticized the ITC for being a costly taxpayer-funded stimulus, the reality is that this short-lived subsidy represents only a small fraction of the money that U.S. taxpayers are spending each year to subsidize fossil fuels. Without any subsidies, solar is likely the cheapest energy source in the world, as demonstrated by record low power purchase agreements in countries like the United Arab Emirates and Chile. And solar’s low cost trajectory is likely to continue: unlike oil, gas and coal, solar PV is a technology not a fuel – meaning that its costs will continue to fall every year as research continues and technology improves.
The best way to compare solar energy and fossil fuels without subsidies is to examine global energy prices. Consider this: global coal prices have historically averaged $0.06 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh). Until the past decade, no alternative energy resource came close to rivaling that price. Fossil fuel steam averages around $0.05 cents/kWh and small scale natural gas can go as low as $0.03 cents/kWh. It’s no wonder that the world was shocked in 2016 when a major commercial solar installation bid
the lowest price for PV to date at $0.029 cents per kWh – effectively leveling the playing field between solar and fossil fuels’ cheapest offerings.
As a result, the discussion of whether solar is cheaper than coal has already become an outdated debate. Today, energy companies are developing solar PV projects that can deliver energy at half the cost of coal, and that’s without factoring in the costly negative impacts of coal – such as heavy carbon pollution, strip mining, and mountaintop removal.
The cost of solar is dropping across the nation. See prices in your area and get free solar quotes on the EnergySage Marketplace.
The advantages and disadvantages of solar energy vs. fossil fuels
The pro/con list of solar energy vs. fossil fuels is likely no surprise to you. Fossil fuels offer the benefit of being a reliable resource that offers near-constant availability. Whether you want to go for a drive at 3 a.m. or 3 p.m., there is nothing you have to consider as a consumer other than if your gas tank is full. However, many people are already aware of the detriments of gas, oil and coal, including significant pollution and the reality that it is a scarce resource that will eventually run out.

The full list of fossil fuel “cons” is fairly well understood, save for one: the cost and detriment of creating its production plants. Simply put, the operating costs associated with producing fossil fuels dramatically outweighs the operating costs of producing of solar energy.
Solar is easily installed on a rooftop surface or ground mount and harnesses an already-available resource (sunlight). By comparison, fossil fuel use requires the degradation of the earth as a means to a fuel’s production. Many people are unaware that fossil fuels do not just create greenhouse gas emissions – the process of drilling also degrades and erodes the ground and pollutes water supply.
Comparing fuel to technology: why the difference matters
The benefits of solar energy vs. fossil fuels offers a long list of reasons for a home or commercial property owner to consider. However, like fossil fuels, solar energy offers both pros and cons. On the positive front, the reality of solar as a source of green power and a non-pollutant is a major benefit for any mass energy source that will be produced at scale. Additionally, renewable resources are ideal because they replenish and are not scarce resources, which can create conflict, cause price volatility or even lead to war. This aspect of solar power is evident, but the fact that photovoltaics are a technology – not a
fuel – is not.
While fuels are tangible commodities and must be produced, treated and transported, solar PV is a technical innovation that involves silicon cells converting sunlight into energy at a highly efficient rate. This is why people are so excited about solar as an energy solution: fuels have an innovation cap whereas technologies improve constantly over time.
The world’s largest solar power plant – it went live in India in 2016. Solar PV can start producing readable alternating current (AC) energy the moment the inverter is activated.
You may be familiar with Moore’s Law observing that computer processing power doubles every year, which means that technical innovation will occur at an exponential rate over time. In turn, the costs of that same technology will also exponentially decrease over time.
A version of Moore’s law can be applied to solar power as well, as illustrated by the “hockey stick” growth of PV that occurred in the past decade while prices have plummeted. The true excitement lies in solar’s potential – it is already cost-equivalent to fossil fuels without subsidies, and there are still cost-cutting opportunities to come through efficiency improvements.
The same principle simply cannot apply to a fuel that must be burned; the natural chemical process of a resource being burned cannot “innovate” over time. Like whale oil before it, the value proposition of today’s fossil fuels peaked many decades ago. This doesn’t mean the world economy will stop relying on them tomorrow, but as renewable energy technology continues to dramatically improve, the end of fossil fuels approaches.
The only real “con” to solar is that it isn’t universally accessible yet. Today, not every roof type is ideal for solar, and the
payback period is not low enough to attract every income bracket. Energy storage solutions must be improved for solar so that it can become an affordable energy option for all homeowners, 24 hours every day. In addition, although existing policies already make solar a smart investment with a high rate of return today, the technology needs to continue its quest towards ever-lower costs to win the battle of tomorrow.
Luckily, the solar industry is already on its way to overcoming these hurdles through advanced research and development to improve PV hardware, as well as smarter uses of software to easily bring buyers and sellers together. For those curious about what a solar installation would cost, this Solar Calculator can offer a personalized estimate based on your roof and local quotes in your area.

Health / A Man's Tattoo Left Doctors Debating Whether To Save His Life by onemmanuel(m): 5:26am On Dec 07, 2017
(CNN)Picture this: A man is admitted to the hospital, unconscious, with a history of serious health problems and a high blood alcohol level. He has no identification and no family with him. On his chest, he has a tattoo: "Do Not Resuscitate."

What would you do?

It sounds like a worst-case-scenario question from a medical ethics course, but it really happened recently at a Florida hospital. A newly published study in The New England Journal of Medicine explored the ethical and medical conundrums the staff faced when presented with a 70-year-old patient whose denial of potentially life-saving treatment was right there on his skin.

At first, doctors wanted to ignore it
According to the study, authored by a team of medical professionals from the University of Miami, the doctors attending to the man didn't want to honor the tattoo because there was no way to be absolutely sure that's what the man wanted.

"We initially decided not to honor the tattoo, invoking the principle of not choosing an irreversible path when faced with uncertainty," the study said. The doctors chose to treat the patient with antibiotics and other life-saving measures.

However, they called in the hospital's ethics consultant, who had a different opinion.

Differing view from an ethics consultant
Laws about do not resuscitate orders are sometimes complex and vary from state to state. According to an article in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, "Clinicians are morally and legally obligated to respect the preferences of patients to forgo life-sustaining treatment." However, this typically means an official signed a do not resuscitate agreement such as a Physician Order for Life Sustaining Treatment.

Tattoos, while clearly administered with a patient's wishes, aren't legally binding, and are usually considered too ambiguous to act upon.

"The emergency responder may wonder: (D)o the letters stand for Do Not Resuscitate? Or Department of Natural Resources? Or someone's initials? Second, the tattoo may not result from a considered decision to forego resuscitation. Errors in interpretation may have life and death consequences," the Journal of General Internal Medicine article said.

In the case of the man in the Florida hospital, the facility's ethics consultant said the doctors should honor the tattoo.

"They suggested that it was most reasonable to infer that the tattoo expressed an authentic preference, that what might be seen as caution could also be seen as standing on ceremony, and that the law is sometimes not nimble enough to support patient-centered care and respect for patients' best interests," the study reads.

There was also another development that supported the consultant's decision: The hospital's social work department located a copy of the man's Florida Department of Health "out-of-hospital" do not resuscitate order, which supported the request on his tattoo.

The outcome
Ultimately, a do not resuscitate order was issued, and the man died. The authors of the study said they were "relieved to find his written DNR request," but the initial confusion over the tattoo brought up a curious issue that has been debated in the medical community on several occasions.

CNN has contacted the authors of the study and is waiting to hear back.

Foreign Affairs / Putin Confirms He Is Running For 4th Term President by onemmanuel(m): 5:04am On Dec 07, 2017
MOSCOW — President Vladimir V. Putin announced on Wednesday that he would seek a fourth term as president of Russia in a March election that he is expected to win handily.
A full, six-year term until 2024 would make his 24-year tenure — including his years as prime minister — the longest by a Russian leader since Joseph Stalin sat in the Kremlin for 29 years. It is widely believed that Mr. Putin wants to use what should be his last term, barring further constitutional changes, to cement his place as one of the more important historical figures ever to rule Russia.
It has been a somewhat improbable run for Mr. Putin, 65, who spent the bulk of his early career as a middle-level K.G.B. agent in East Germany.
Calling the collapse of the Soviet Union one of the greatest catastrophes of the 20th century, he has built his formidable popularity on the idea that Russia should restore its natural destiny as a superpower, an equal to the United States in military might and global influence.
His crowning achievement in pursuit of this goal was the 2014 annexation of Crimea, which has kept his popularity ratings around 85 percent ever since. Election day was moved to March 18, the fourth anniversary of that annexation, as a pointed reminder to voters.
Mr. Putin made the long-anticipated announcement on the floor of a vehicle factory in the northern industrial city of Nizhny Novgorod. He delivered a brief statement in the seemingly spontaneous yet carefully choreographed manner he favors for major appearances broadcast live on state television.
It began with a worker climbing onto the stage set up for the occasion at the Gorky Automobile Factory — known by its Russian acronym as GAZ — to ask Mr. Putin if he would run, saying: “Today in this hall everybody, without exception, supports you. Give us a gift, announce your decision!”
Asked the same question on live television at national forum for volunteer youths just hours earlier, Mr. Putin had said he was still thinking about it.
This time, with the hall erupting in cheers of “GAZ supports you!,” Mr. Putin said he was running. “There is no better space and no better occasion to announce this,” he said. “I will run for the presidency of the Russian Federation.”
The choice of venue and the occasion highlighted Mr. Putin’s support base — workers of Russia’s big industrial enterprises. During the street protests in Moscow in 2011-12, workers at a similar plant in central Russia offered Mr. Putin their help in dispersing anti-Kremlin protesters.
Mr. Putin is expected to cruise to re-election, not least because of his popularity and the lack of serious challengers. In fact, the main concern in the Kremlin now, according to political analysts of all stripes, is that the lackluster slate of candidates could drive turnout to historic lows and deprive Mr. Putin of a resounding mandate.
But there is no denying Mr. Putin’s popularity. The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, dominated by Russia with 33 medals, also fueled his ratings. The scandal over state-backed doping, which saw Russia barred from the 2018 Winter Games, only seems to have bolstered his standing, as it fits into his narrative of Russia as a besieged fortress surrounded by enemies on all fronts.
Domestically, Russians experienced instability and poverty after the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union. After assuming the presidency in 2000, Mr. Putin brought stability and an extended period of prosperity, with Russians gaining more household income in the first eight years of his term — mostly because of rising prices for energy, the country’s main commodity — than during any other period in their recent history.
That has gone into reverse in recent years, since the 2014 collapse in the price of oil and the ruble. But Russians have yet to blame Mr. Putin personally.
If anything, he popularity has been inching upward since the summer. A poll by the Levada Center in September showed 52 percent of voters supported him overall and 64 percent among those who said they would vote. The poll was based on 1,600 people questioned on September 15 to 19, the center said.
His strongest rival, Aleksei Navalny, an anti-corruption crusader and opposition politician who organized several large national protests this year, has been barred from running because of a series of criminal cases that he and rights advocates call politically motivated. Yet, even if he were allowed to run, it is doubtful that he would be popular enough to threaten Mr. Putin.
A recent entry into the race, Ksenia Sobchak, a journalist and celebrity reality show host, as well as the daughter of Mr. Putin’s political mentor, is running with what many consider at least the tacit approval of the Kremlin, to divide the opposition vote.
The rest of the field is dominated by novices plugging a particular cause or political war horses like the Communist Party candidate, Gennady Zyuganov, and Vladimir Zhirinovsky, a right-wing nationalist, both septuagenarians who have unsuccessfully contested elections for decades.
The Kremlin does not exactly encourage challengers. Opposition figures get little or no access to national television, and there are countless hurdles to registering as a candidate. To cite just one, independent candidates have to collect hundreds of thousands of signatures of endorsement from members of the public from at least 43 regions of Russia during an abbreviated, three-month campaign.
In 2008, term limits forced Mr. Putin to yield the presidency to a handpicked successor, Dmitri Medvedev, and to slide into the prime minister’s seat. But he assumed his old position in 2012 with a back room maneuver that prompted mass street demonstrations.
Ever since, the Kremlin has set about undermining the independent news media and any civic society organizations or other groups deemed as having the ability to coordinate public demonstrations. Mr. Putin, always quick to blame the West in general and the United States in particular for any problems within Russia, accused Hillary Clinton, then secretary of state, of organizing the street protests.
Once back in the presidency, Mr. Putin set about extending the presidential term to six years. There has been widespread speculation that he might fiddle with the constitution again this time to allow him to run again. Yet, despite his popularity, many analysts said Russians were not inclined to accept a president for life.
Some analysts consider Wednesday’s announcement as marking less the start of the election campaign than the beginning of the struggle within the Kremlin and the Russian elite to succeed Mr. Putin.
The initial reaction from the opposition was to try to laugh off the inevitable. “He wants to stay in power for 21 years,” Mr.
Navalny wrote in a tweet, subtracting the years he was prime minister. “In my view, that’s a bit too long. I suggest we don’t agree”
The official line was summed up by Ramzan Kadyrov, the pugnacious ruler of Chechnya, a Russian republic that Mr. Putin has allowed him to turn into something of a private fief.
“It’s only him who is capable of resisting the massive, ruthless and unprecedented attack organized by our frenemies from the U.S. and Western Europe,” Mr.
Kadyrov wrote on Instagram.
