There is no way you can make money everyday, yes there are days you can make 100%, but to consistently make 30% everyday or worse still promise anyone any rate of interest on a daily basis shows a sever lack of knowledge of market dynamics.
Religion / Re: To Tithe or Not to Tithe? by orisebawo(m): 4:16pm On Jul 29, 2009
Bota,

Ofcourse this is a topic that calls for the defence of what you believe in with reason, so yes i am being defensive on what i believe in.

I am not sure your last statement is relevant to this discussion as i dont know what convenience has got to do with the old testament.

It would have been better if you had added substance by discussing some of the points raised.
Religion / Re: To Tithe or Not to Tithe? by orisebawo(m): 3:26pm On Jul 29, 2009
Bota:

Tithe, by its very definition is '' a tenth of something '' . Lets keep this at the back of our mind. This is what God has asked for, and that is our obligation. We may choose to give more (that will be offering), but the command is for us to return a tenth(tithe) of what has been given us.

That is true but your statement needs backing up with reasonable explanations.

My take is simple on this matter and this is based on my understanding:

I do not believe in tithing, although i believe in offering and giving with a CHEERFUL HEART.

I believe tithing was part of the old testament and the death of jesus christ has made such practices irrelevant.

I have tried on my own to look for anywhere in the bible where tithing is supposed to be compulsory.

The more galatians and those old testaments are quoted before the call to tithe, the more i am convinced i am on the right part.

Even if at the end of the day my judgement is wrong , i am not bothered because when it comes to the things of faith, i act according to my belief.

If you believe in tithes that is fine, but dont tell me i need God to open my eyes to see things.

Everyone will be judged according to his faith and understanding, afterall not all of us can perform miracles, yet it doesnt make us less important in the eyes of God.

Whatever you do for God make sure it is what you actually believe in and not what you are told to believe in.

I love giving and i love sowing seeds, but as a good farmer i know there is a season for everything, a time to sow and a time to reap.

ADEOMOLE:

Dan foster is a victim of circumstance.
The immigration service is taking advantage of the media attention
his deportation is going to generate.

In a steady country, he ought to have been confered an honournary
citizenship. He is more Nigerian than most of us.

What a shame.

He is definitely going to come back.

If he is being deported because he has overstayed his visa, then the immigration services need to be commended, there is nothing shameful in what the immigration service as done irrespective of the circumstances, because that is part of their job, if he wants to claim a resident status virtue of his marriage to a nigerian then he has to go through the proper channels.

I am not sure on what basis you think he deserves an honorary citizenship and i do not know of any country that gives such for doing what you are paid to do, unless perhaps you know of exceptional contributions he has made to Nigeria.

We should not be little our country by allowing foreigners to break the law willingly, especially when they wont allow you to do the same in their country
Career / Re: What Next After A 3rd Class From University? by orisebawo(m): 11:42pm On Feb 23, 2009
Poster,

I feel you but i have never really seen a 3rd class as such an handicap until i read your post, i graduated 14 years ago with a 3rd class  and started studying for ACCA,  after which i did my masters and hopefully come september i should be starting my doctorate degree in business administration.

The ACCA program now includes a degree programme which is awarded after the first 2 stages based on your average score, this should help you get a better class of degree as well as prepare you as an accountant.

There are many reasons for getting a 3rd class and in my case it was just a case of not reading, being young and just enjoying freedom away from my parents.

I am sure age is still on your side and you should be able to turn your fortune around if you are really serious about it and please be much more confident, no one is going to pity you because you have a 3rd class, it is up to you to prove your worth.

I wish you luck in all your endeavours

Religion / Re: GOV. Raji Fashola @ Holyghost Congress 08 by orisebawo(m): 11:58am On Dec 24, 2008
I think in his capacity as the Governor of lagos state Fashola should be able to fraternise with all religious sect, as it wasn't only muslims that voted for him, during Tinubu's time he also visited the Redeemed camp and that does not make him less a muslim.

That is the kind of spirit we need in Nigeria and the fact that he visited Redeem has got nothing to do with whether he will succeed or not but atleast it is a welcome development.

I am a christian and i think it is a lesson some of our christian leaders can learn from, I know how many pillars of a certain cathoilic church that Abiola donated money to during his time and that is the kind of trait we should expect from our leaders.

I await the day when a christian govenor will attend a muslim convention of such magnitude as the redeem camp.

Anything to prevent the sort of mayhem that happened in jos.

Politics / Lagos Bans Governors, Others From Use Of Siren by orisebawo(m): 1:10pm On Nov 11, 2008
The Lagos Government on Monday barred visiting governors and top government officials from using siren in the state.

Our Correspondent
The Lagos State Governor, Mr.

The state Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, announced the ban in Lagos just as the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Paul Dike, ordered the naval headquarters to thoroughly investigate the alleged assault on a 27-year-old lady, Miss Uzoma Okere, by some naval ratings in Lagos.

Although Fashola did not attribute the ban to the assault on Uzoma by the ratings attached to the convoy of Rear Admiral Harry Arogundade, he however said the use of siren by those in authority was a way of terrorising taxpayers whom they were supposed to serve.

The governor, who does not use siren, added that those who do had “continued to constitute an unacceptable slur on the state’s traffic management system.”

He said, “ I have successfully demonstrated that you need patience and not the siren to negotiate through the traffic in Lagos. I seek the cooperation of all and sundry to demonstrate its benefit, including visiting governors and other public officers.

“Let us all get rid of these nuisance on which we spend millions of our hard-earned money to keep the producers in Europe and America in business while we use it to terrorise the taxpayers who we serve.”

Fashola also announced the ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, in some parts of the state from 7pm.

The affected areas are Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Ikeja.

He said that commercial motorcycles had become a major tool for criminals in facilitating their nefarious activities.

He also pointed out that while government recognised the fact that commercial motorcycles had become a major means of transportation in the state, there was the need to strictly guide their operations.

Fashola said, “For the avoidance of doubt, the provision of the Road Traffic Law, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority Law, the Bus Rapid Transit ‘Lite’ Regulation and the Motor Vehicle Registration and Administration Authority Law all regulate the operation of Okada in the state.

“In keeping with my constitutional duties, particularly section 5 (2) (b) of the Constitution, I have given an executive order restricting the movement of motorcycles during certain hours in specified areas, namely Ikeja, Ikoyi and Victoria Island. This will be strictly and rigorously enforced.”

Meanwhile, the CDS, Air Chief Marshall Dike, on Monday ordered that a report on the assault on Uzoma, daughter of the National Assembly’s Seargeant-at- arms, Col. Emmanuel Okere (rtd.), be sent to him in order to ensure that the law was followed to the letter.

Dike, in a three-paragraph statement by the Director of Defence Information, Col. Chris Jemitola, described the incident as ‘embarrassing and worrisome.’

He expressed the regrets of the Defence Headquarters, saying the assault on the lady had brought odium to the military.

The statement reads, “The Defence Headquarters regrets the embarrassing incident involving a naval convoy and Miss Okere in Lagos on Monday, November 3, 2008.

“The incident is more worrisome especially now that efforts are on to change the poor perception the civil populace have of the military.

“The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Paul Dike, has directed Naval Headquarters to carry out a full and thorough investigation into the incident and report to him immediately as he assures all that the rule of law will be fully observed.”

Uzoma was reportedly beaten and stripped to her underwear by the ratings for allegedly refusing to give way to the convoy of Rear Admiral Harry Arogundade on Muri Okunola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Senate Committee on Navy had on Thursday asked the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Isaiah Ibrahim, to explain the reasons why the ratings assaulted Uzoma.

The Senate committee‘s action was sequel to a petition by the victim‘s father, urging it to look into the matter with the view to bringing his daughter‘s attackers to justice.

The Director of Defence Information had in his initial reaction to the incident claimed that Uzoma provoked the ratings when she allegedly snatched a horsewhip from one of them to beat him.

But Uzoma, at a press conference in Lagos on Sunday, said the naval spokesman was being economical with the truth.

But an associate of Arogundade, Mr. Lanre Osodi, who claimed to have been with the Rear Admiral when the case was reported to him claimed that Uzoma confirmed to the senior officer that she snatched a rating’s horsewhip.

Already, Uzoma has sued Arogundade and the naval ratings for the alleged assault, demanding N100m. She has been offered free legal counsel by the Lagos State Government.

Education / Re: How Do I Improve My Maths? by orisebawo(m): 5:04pm On Oct 31, 2008
@ Poster,

I guess you already have an idea of what you need to do to improve your mathematical skilss, mathematics is like a language and there is a tendency to be scared if you do not understand the language, my advise is not to see mathematics as a subject that needs to be passed but as an every day way of life,go thorugh basic mathematics textbooks and understand it in your own way, this will ofcourse involve trying so many questions and adding your own personal touch to it.

I used to be in your shoes or rather in a worse situation than yours, in the first 4 years of my secondary school at FGC, i NEVER passed mathematics and felt pythagoras theorem was the meanest formular in the world but then when my dad realised i was no good and moved me to a day school in Lagos to start in Class 3 when my mates in FGC where in Class 5, I made up my mind to catch up with my mates and make up for lost ground as i was ashamed of myself. I started to see mathematics in a new light as i wasn't under pressure to pass as my dad had already told me to keep my report cards to myself and i could read almost leisurely, to cut the long story short mathematics became my best subject and my first degree is in mathematics and statistics. The secret is to solve atleast one question a day and before you know it becomes part of you and move with friends who enjoy showing off their maths skills. This was how i overcame the fear of maths and it might not work for everyone but once you remove the element of fear you can do anything. When i saw you post it brought back memories at least you are lucky to get 60%, some of us were getting 33% then (over 20 yrs ago), this is the jet age if you are not sure about the way a textbook has explained or solved a problem go to google scholar and i am sure you will find alternative ways of approaching it.

Mathematics is a skill that will forever be useful to you. I wish you goodluck
Romance / Re: Should A Woman Love Her Man More Than God? by orisebawo(m): 12:02pm On Aug 28, 2008
@ Poster,

I believe the kind of love you have for a man is totally incomparable to the one you have for God,

I believe you cant Love God 100% and love your man 75%, Loving God is simply doing God's will and keeping his commandments, some of which is stated in  Ephesians - Chapter 5:22-24,33

22. Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
23. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savoir.
24. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
33. , and the wife must respect her husband

If you love God you will love your husband but you might love your husband and not love God

Personally i believe it is either you love your man or not as love is not quantifiable

@poster,

It is good to make friends but at all times you need to maintain your dignity and act with integrity.

I have seen a sharp turn in your behavioural pattern in a very short while and in as much as i agree that you have a problem, i am not quite sure it is about your babe living you for another man. i might be wrong but it seems there are bigger issues within yourself that need to be addressed first and very fast too.
Romance / Re: I Need Help, Please by orisebawo(m): 11:51am On Aug 26, 2008
@ Poster,

I think you should be very happy that you experienced this before and not after the marriage, the truth of the matter is that the babe is not for you , so find yourself another woman (believe me you will find a better one)

She is gone and that is history, there isnt any advise we can give other than to encourage you not to see every disappointment as the end of the world.

I understand the pain but life is all about rolling with the blows, i wish you the best of luck in future

Career / Re: My Salary Account Was Credited Twice by orisebawo(m): 12:03pm On Aug 06, 2008
@Poster,

My advise is don't spend the money and the interest that would have accumulated.

If i were in your shoes this is what i will do.

I will write a proper formal report on the shortcomings of the organisations systems and also come up with ways of increasing the integrity of the system, use your experience of being double paid as a case study and advise on ways to prevent such occurence happening in the future (you might need to do some research to come up with a viable solution). In your conclusions state how much you have been overpaid to date and how much has accumulated in interest and make it clear you are going to return the money to the organisation.

Send the report to your head of department and copy the HR department.

The organisation will be most impressed and might decide to retain you based on your integrity and problem solving skills.

In future you can always be assured of a good reference.
Sports / Re: Siasia Picks 26 For Dream Team: No Mikel? by orisebawo(m): 5:19pm On Jul 24, 2008
I hope the eagles do well at the olympics and i think it is a good decision to drop Mikel obi, he is definitely a good player but as part of a team he is very disruptive.

Three years ago my wife and I went to watch the Final between Nigeria and Argentina, we were opportuned to be in the same Hotel as the Flying Eagles, the Argentina, Morrocan and Brazilian teams and it was the first time i came accross Mikel Obi, a light training was scheduled for about 9 am in the morning of the final and while all the other players including Taiye Taiwo, Siasia and the Sports minister where already on the coach, they had to wait an extra half an hour for Mikel obi to come out of the Hotel and he wasn't even apologetic and after the final whistle was blown he had to be restrained by other players as he was really giving it to the referee (very disgraceful)

I feel the team doesn't need such a disruptive person and the Manager should be looking at the team and not one player.

as for me my child will be there to bag his 1st Class too.

For the critics of this outstanding performance, send your children to government schools then they will be back home after spending 8/7 years for a 4-year course and eventually get 3D-Class.

OK!

There is nothing wrong in sending your son anywhere you want and if you decide he must go to CU then good luck but for you to curse the children of those who choose to do otherwise with an overstretched duration of 7/8 years in the university coupled with a 3rd class degree says a lot about the kind of person you are, how could you say such a thing, people like you will step on peoples head to get what they want.

It is obvious a lot of people do not pray for an improvement in our educational system for their own selfish reasons.

No one is stopping you from being rich but you dont need to curse the poor.
Education / Re: Covenant University: 3rd Convocation Ceremony by orisebawo(m): 10:48am On Jun 19, 2008
The university is different from a secondary school where all you have to do is read and pass, even well established universities like cambridge and oxford dont produce as many first class. The more first class you have the lesser the value of the certificate.

I am happy for the CU first class graduants and i wish them success in the future, my only fear is that they might not be ready for the real world as they have been well protected by CU from outside influences.

The first class candidate from a federal university in most cases would have battled against so many distractions and influences and would be able to survive better in the outside world.

that is quite true i heard that in their third year or earlier students are expected to start taking proffessional exams in line with their courses and most of them by the they are graduating already are members of proffesional bodies or about to be certified i know of the IT college.

You cannot become a member of a professional body by just passing exams, the 20 graduants with first class honours will have to wait at least another 3 years before they can become a member of any chartered accountancy body because one of the requirement is that you have 36 months of supervised working experience which should be verified by a member of the body.

A lot of people make the mistake of calling affiliates (just passed exams) members just because they have passed their exams.
Religion / Re: Can You Suspend Tithing To Pay Off Your Debts? by orisebawo(m): 3:08pm On Jun 18, 2008
when a man gets N100 a month

Pays
N50 in rent
N10 in bills
N30 in Transportation to work
N10 for food
N20 for maintenance of loan.

How much tithes does he pay if we agree he has to pay 10% of his earnings, from the above example this guy has not earned anything and his in debt of N20 every month, does he then increase his debt to N30 or does he wait until such a time where his income is higher than his expenditure.

In most cases where all your bills are on direct debit and they go out on the same day your salary comes in, and leaves you with a net balance of N30 overdraft, how do you pay your tithes? and if you decide to pay it at all cost and incure additional debt, then how do you pay off the debt.

Take up a voluntary part time employment with an African caterer/restaurant, that will place you in a proper african womans kitchen where you can learn the way things are done properly.
