I am wondering why no one recommended coolant in this vehicle? Was it your inability to afford it or just forgetfulness.

So many things you have pointed out that no one informed me about. This is what professionalism is about. Always keeping the client informed so he or she makes an informed decision.

Probably the reason why you are very different. You think of everything. For this I am eternally grateful.

It was a simple yes or No questions. It wouldn't have taken any thing from him if he just answered. No body sabi pass mr PA.

Which PA?? You don’t even know how and why this thread is progressing...

I opened this thread in 2015, basically to keep clients informed on repairs and procedures used on vehicles in our custody.

Stopped updating it for a while now, because of the volume of work and basically got lazy cheesy

Any way we have a special vehicle in the house and we would like to documents it's repairs, it will be fun and educational.

Thread is not for requests, iv got other threads for that so kindly find them, feel free to ask questions related to the posts or topics.

As usual, I will not tolerate derailing or insults, if you have nothing to say, just read and pass, derailers WILL receive a very long ban.

Enjoy as you read and watch.

JUST": A Toyota Camry, 2008 model.

TLDR;

I took my car to their service with the hope of having all my car problems(mostly mechanical problems) fixed. But as i type this review, i've listed my car on a car sales site to have it sold due to the problems that arose from taking it to JD autos.
I would say that JD autos is really good when it comes to body painting and interior change, but for mechanical issues, they aren't more than the regular road side mechanic.

Read below for more on my experience.

It all started about a month and 2 weeks ago, just a few weeks after the ban on going out due to Covid in Lagos. I took my car to their workshop at Lekki, 16 Ibekwe Avenue.
Major Problems my car had that they messed up:
- Car ignition not starting every time
- Ac doesn't work
- Key cover change

Quote: 564k
plus other fixes from me coming back to complain: 35k + 15k

Car ignition:
- They fixed it, but not well, now it takes about 2-3seconds before the car starts. "Their comment: it' will definitely start it's not a problem"

Some days after they fixed all the issues "they claim they fixed" the first time, i drove the car to the mainland(long distance drive), then i heard some squealing, i took it back, and that was fixed for N35,000

Ac doesn't work:
- The first time i took the car there, they fixed the AC properly, but after the second fix, i took it for a drive again, i came back to them later about some squealing(sound) i noticed about 4 days later, after i took it back, they fixed the noise now the AC stopped working, lead to overheating and damaged a few parts.
I had to take the car to a road side mechanic, who noticed a few rookie mistakes, like bolts were not properly bolted, water reserve tank wasn't properly keyed.

Key cover change:
- I had my remote key cover changed because it wasn't closing well,, JD autos changed the key alright, but the key wasn't opening my boot remotely anymore. I complained about it, but that was swept under the carpet. They also misplaced my key to manually open my car when the remote is dead, but at the point i noticed i was too saddened and frustrated to say anything to them.

Advice to Jd autos:
- Either hire more and highly experienced engineers
- Perform a deep QA before returning cars
- Improve on your communication skills
- And pick a struggle, either stick to painting cars/interior work or be better at mechanical works.

Also my car was just: "JUST": A Toyota Camry, 2008 model.

Please stay away from them!

Pathetic!! Inexperienced mechanics and poor customer services. Regretted patronising them. Expensive but not a good value for money service. Had to correct/still correcting everything they charged me for, including repainting the car after their painting which started washing off in 8days. #alwaysuseyourknownmechanic

HERE'S A REPLY
Thank you for your reply.

Kindly see this review as a wakeup call for you to CONSTANTLY APPRAISE your team premised on my negative experience at your workshop.

Painting a clearer picture of that episode will be a negative publicity to your brand (which unfortunately has become the case). Remember, that I had discussions with you and even your workshop manager at separate occasions to express my worries about your team.

The ugly parts of the whole story were 1. When the front tyre pulled out on motion the VERY NEXT DAY after picking up the car from your workshop. (the roadside mechanic who came to my rescue showed me a part under the car that was NOT PROPERLY KNOTTED by whoever fixed it in the first place.) This, I bitterly complained to your workshop manager I drove the vehicle there and he reluctantly apologized after 2hours. Infact, someone matured (name withheld) from your workshop came to me and apologized for your workshop manager’s conduct. 2. How the newly (poorly) sprayed vehicle paint started washing off in less than a week (in fairness, you did ask me to return the car for a respray but I just could not trust your painter the second time) 3. The brakes, which I repeated complained about still failed after being assured that it was fixed, I COULD GO ON AND ON. Remember that we are talking about a vehicle that spent over 35days at your workshop!

My frequent visits at the later stage was as a result of a tip off from one of your team member (name withheld) who confided in me that he was no longer comfortable with the ways my vehicle was being abandoned and the repairs not paid attention to in favor of newer and more exotic vehicles brought.

Most of your team were full of apologies for the experience that night I was driving out the vehicle and implored that I return the vehicle but I have had enough after over 35days, with so much money spent. Thereafter, I ended up correcting 80% of what your team did on the car.

PLEASE APPRAISE YOUR WORKMEN.

Considering codes P2647 and P2649

Had some time to take out the vtec oil pressure solenoid and pressure switch.(looking horrible)

Also took out the Engine oil pressure switch.

A little clarification on the word horrible.

On no account should sylicone gum be used on the seals of the VTEC actuator assembly. It is unprofessional and will cause clogging of the strainer in future.

Looking at the pics below on the Toks part you will see there is no gum and it was installed that way with no resulting leaks.

Kindly note we supplied the Engine oil pump assembly and not the actuator assy. Actuator assy to the best of my knowledge came with the car .

Please boss ignore those jealous of your success with the vehicle.

Like I mentioned before, I am very grateful.

PS: You need not talk about the lack of professionalism because I witnessed it first hand.

As agreed Gazzuzz you should have opened a fresh thread for the MDX because

1. It would serve as history to prospective MDX owners for that particular model year

2. Learning curve to both owners and technician of the J35 abi nah J37 engine and vehicles of those years utilizing the engine.

3. Reminder for future reference on fixes related to Honda/Acura product

number 4 isn't too important

4. Severe bashing and derailing of the thread for the fix grin which I was expecting anyway.

Every technician here has followers that rally round them, it's not a crime though because the difference we exhibit in life is what keeps the world balanced.

2. O2 Sensor B1S1 No activity (P0134)

2b. O2 sensor negative Current control B1S1

3. Rocker Arm actuator Bank1 (P2647)

4. Transmission Range Switch Switch Circuit Open (P1717 )

5. Airbag warning light

6. Engine oil pressure warning Light

7. TPMS Warning Lights

8. Finally Blueish/White Smoke at startup.

I love challenges , I took up this job not because of the monetary gains or fame, but to prove a point that it can be done.

The last issues left to be completed on this vehicle were the VTEC system and smoke at startup.

We had a plan which we tried to follow but unfortunately didn't go with it because parts arrived at different times so we had to do other jobs.

How we solved the VTEC code.

GAZZUZZ:
[color=#550000]Put the car together again and now it throws just one code on the Engine ECU P2649 this code is triggered immediately vehicle is started .

Let's copy and paste again.

P2649 Possible Causes
What does this mean?
Low or overfilled engine oil (nope I just changed oil)
Incorrect engine oil type (used 5w20 mobil1)

Faulty 'A' Rocker Arm Actuator (tested the solenoid it works)
'A' Rocker Arm Actuator harness is open or shorted (harness at the bottom is fine but continuity not checked all the way to engine ecu )
'A' Rocker Arm Actuator circuit poor electrical connection (connections are now firm)

Monday we will take apart the engine harness and trace connections from the solenoid to the engine ecu.

That's as much as we were able to do today.

Meanwhile the SHW light came up caused by a communication code. (Lost communication)

Will be looking at a lot of wires on Monday.

In my last update I said I was going to check the electrical connections , it turned out they were fine.

So I took out the VTEC assembly again, I had an old assy lying around in the shop So i took it apart and started testing all components , also did a pressure test on the switch attached to the assy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CH27jm2tJ1U

When I was sure it was all fine I began putting it together but for some reason I looked at the original one that came out of the car (came with engine From day 1) and noticed something was missing in the old part.

Now look closely at all three assys.

Now look where I placed my screwdriver then look again at the pic with all three.

I always wondered why previous technician was unable to solve the oil pressure light issue, well there you have it, oil was unable to build up pressure because the valve which is suppose to control the vtec lifters was not there at all.

I have installed the part which i refurbished tested and cleaned up,

Started the car and there are no codes on the dashboard .

Usually the oil pressure warning light would come up at idle after reaching operating temperature, but that no longer happens.

Oil pressure warning is solved , VTech codes gone for good.

We now have a clear dashboard.

The active damper system and Daytime running lights are really not an issue but if I am in the mood I will take a look at them.

I will make it my daily driver for a couple of days to be sure there are no more issues.
