@yankison,

About you getting loan in US right from Nigeria.....Just forget it. The only option I could see is if that your US citizen friend or any US rooted person you know with SSN and financial history can borrow it to himself/themselves and then disburse it to you which I guess would be hard to do. Last word..... ''May God help you sha''.

Fully funded you should be fine and may not even have to show proof of funds.

Bros this your case hard oh. Nobody will cosign a $92k loan for you in America... not even your own brother.
Best bet is to find a cheaper school if you cannot afford to pay the difference.

Ileke-IdI:
-Doing assignments/Research and thesis

I'm currently doing one tho, will not expand on that. I'm sure that we have many on higher level who can help with that.  smiley

-Getting a phone line and cheaper plan

So many phone line out there, most do not require contract so its a lot cheaper. Simple Mobile, T-mobile, Metro-PCS, etc. Most of them are around $50/month. I wouldnt suggest getting a "pay by the minute" phones. Lost my phone once, had to get one of those. Your money will disappear like no man's business o shocked

-Getting scholarships

Depends on the school. Each college and department also offers its own scholarships, the state offers their own scholarships too. Try WWW.FASTWEB.COM  many scholarships out there to grab.

Search through your school's engine.

-Owing a used car (if necessary), Getting a bus pass

EXPENSIVE!!!  And used cars comes with used car PROBLEMS. I suggest not. I've had personal experience. Try getting a bike, then maybe after 2 semesters, you can settle down into your school/program. Think about the car expenses, tag expense, registration expense, monthly car insurance expense etc.

Your school should offer you a student ID. That gets you on any city and campus bus for free. Well, may depend on the school. My school uses the RTS Bus program, which charges a standard bus pass amount on our tuition, allows us to ride any bus for free. Ask your school about that.

As a student, I wouldnt worry much about bus pass.

-Getting a licence

1. Go to your state's DMV (each city should have about 10 or more)
2. Ask for a DMV booklet
3. Study the book, study the questions
4. Make an appointment  for the written exam (not exactly written, multiple choice with both road signs and road rules questions)
5. After passing that exam, make another appointment for the driving exam.

The written exams are usually free. Well, the first ones are, additional tests are $5 each. Driving exams are also free (I think). Driver license are $47 in Florida, might be different in your state.

Hard for some, easy for others.

-Making the right friends.

Subjective. All depends on you and the kind of friends you have in mind. What I will say is that making connections is very important. What I see African students doing is settling down in an African organization, waste of precious time. Branch out. You dont know who you will meet in another organization. Go to social events (not just drinking and clubs o).
Go outside. Siddon somewhere. You dont know what you'll meet smiley I've met the craziest best set of people while just riding my bike or while making a decision at a grocery store. Talk to the next person beside you  grin

-Getting a job on campus/off campus

This will be hard because a lot of schools are cutting budget, less money less jobs.
Once again, this is why connection is very important.
Apply to anywhere, even the jobs you dont think you'll get.
Search through your school's database.
Do you like that starbucks coffee, look online if there's any job opening position. Do you hate your student government, go on their website and look for an opening. Do you appreciate free computers your school offers, look for job opening at the IT. Even if you assume you'll suck at a position, you get better as you work.

Yes o!!!!

Please brother, I`m also in Florida, I will like to get some details from you. My email address is stannydon@yahoo.com. please send me yours or your phone no. I`ll like to get some details from you.

well as far as student loans are concerned Sallie mae is the name of the biggest institution that gives students loan in the u.s.
I do in fact have student loans which im still paying because the interest rate is crazy and you just can't pay it off and live comfortably. Like Davidylan said you might benefit from finding a money source in Nigeria because i honestly can't see anyone in this day helping with co-sign for a loan most especially for a foreign student who can easily just default on the loan and go back home. (Not saying that is the type of person you are but that is the thought you might encounter because money is tight everywhere)

@Omega25red

I have heard of Sallie Mae. First question bro, will Sallie Mae loan be given as cash. Why I'm asking this is that I am hopeful of getting GA from my school when I get there but I may need their loan to handle some stuffs. I discovered the University where I got admitted has a credit Union that is affiliated with Sallie Mae. So, lot of student get this. So, I'm planning to take loan from them when I get to US but I checked their form online, they asked for SSN. Can student with F-1 status has SSN?

Thanks sir.

As an F1 student, they will not give you a loan.

i got this from another site:

Employment

Except for on-campus employment of 20 hours a week or less, F-1 students are generally not permitted to work in the U.S. without prior authorization from Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). However, the USCIS may grant work authorization for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT). Students are permitted to work for a total of 14 months towards practical training (eg. internship), which can be distributed between Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT). An interim order was passed on April 8, 2008 allowing students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) to legally work under OPT for 29 months.[3] During the period of OPT, an F-1 student is not permitted to accrue more than 90 days of unemployment.

so to answer you SSN question, there is a chance that you can get one but the F1 visa status will probably kill your chance of getting a loan from Sallie mae because like i mentioned before you can easily default on the loan and return to your country of origin. Also some students will not get a check from them because they would usually pay the money to the institution you applied through.

Phizzle....ssn is not what your friend should be thinking right now!!!!.Officially she has a grace of 5 months to be reinstated back through her school

International Office.Yankee is all about having a plan A and B.Before i came to the states, i knew my money will only last for two semesters(jan-dec) for

tuition. Before the end of my first semester i was in a relationship with a sweet and educated lady and some few weeks before the end of my second semester we were

married. When the spring semester for 2012 started in January of this year, i couldn't register because i owe the school so i called them and told them i was married

and have filed for adjustment of status based on my marriage to a USC.I FILED IN FEBRUARY AND I HAVE MY GREEN CARD NOW.I will be going back to school in fall and

sallie mae already approved my application for student loan.So if your friend lacks fund which is understandable, what she should do is to get married to a USC and file for adjustment of status or else she will receive a Notification To Appear before an immigration judge from ICE!!!!!.I quite understand how your friend feels at the moment coz have been in that situation.

BRov ur story is kinda interesting . Initially did you get any fund from ur skool before you got your visa , and how were able to get the student loan without a co signer since you do not have a credit history yet .

You dont need a credit history nor cosigner as a green card holder to get a student loan.

unfortunately i dont know but i would advice that you reach out to them and ask what they want exactly so you dont end up late with your application because you sent the wrong thing.
