Yes, it happened in Ibadan. Youkay worst! My friend that studied in UK and later moved to Canada about 10 yrs ago is returning to Nigeria. To cut the story short, he is complaining about increase in interest rate on everything. Let's hope Nigeria get a little better under Tinubu and we will see how people will be returning massively. Many Nigerians doing care jobs in UK are earning 9.50pounds. how can person survive with the UK bills under that situation? How many hrs of work has to be done per day to survive when rent is 800pounds/month. Why are they all flooding SM to make video? It's all about side hustle I pity those that sell thier houses in gbanjo to move to UK. let's forget shiny faces, it's not easy anywhere. Japa is good for strugglers though and no one should sell off their properties when they are close to 40 or above tosinhtml: 10 Likes 4 Shares |

Derring: I work two remote jobs currently. i've been working with one of them since 2020. Many people have been laid off during this time but i've been super reliable. So it is possible for him to keep this job for the next 3 years. The point is showing them why you are so much valuable to them. Biuld friendship and good relations etc. He can also keep tabs on other similar companies as a plan B if he is laid off. 8 Likes 1 Share |

Well...you are lucky to have a remote job paying $3000. But like someone said, if you lose it what are the chances of getting another one asap. However, if you are in the abroad, you don't need to lose the job before getting another one with higher pay. While at it, by just sending out your CV, you will get more than 10 organisations inviting you for interview, some may offer you job immediately. Again, without no immediate family as in a wife ,child or children $3000 is alot of money . Since its remote or hybrid job, your net expenses should be less than $500 meaning you should be able to save a minimum of $25000 annually. With good investment decisions in stocks, MM etc you should be able to achieve a minimum of 10% ROI. If you compound this over a three year period, you should have saved over $80000. This is a lot of money. On the japa part, The honest truth is majority of Nigerians are doing better than this, as some are lucky to be earning your 3k USD or more, some are not privilege to earn such. But the difference is that those not earning as you, are earning a minimum wage that is able to make them happy and also they have a good future opportunity to earn as you in a secured safe environment for them as well as their family. But all in all, the final decision is yours to make. Nigeria is so unpredictable that you never know what will be the economic situation in a short, medium or long term. 6 Likes 2 Shares |

You can actually eat your cake and still have it if you follow this my advice. First off invest in Real Estate here in Nigeria for some time, focus on legit ones not the Omo onile type, get all your property documents done, focus on highbrow or medium areas where your neighbours are civilized and will not have village people mindsets and your property will also have high value. Invest in commercial properties too, you can buy shops in major markets anywhere in Nigeria, for rent, get a good estate manager or lawyer who will help you in managing all these properties even if they are two more, you can use your mum as front if possible in liasing with the lawyers and tenants. Then plan to Japa by all means reason is because nothing guarantees you will always have that job, life is not predictable, I don't think it should hinder your work since you work remotely, when you get there still save up and continue to invest in properties back home, go for lekki, Abuja, type of properties, your income may not be worth much over there but it will secure your future here in Nigeria, you will build generational wealth and will not rely on your income alone in your new country, you will be collecting rent from Nigeria and still be in a developed country, 2 Likes 1 Share |

If you're truthful about your earnings, you shouldn't even contemplate leaving the country else it will end in regret and waste of funds. I earn in dollars too and I know what it means. It's the same thing you want to go and seek outside there. 2 Likes |

hazinibones:I am not sure the country you are thinking of relocating to, or the relocation pathway. Because your experience in western countries is to a large extent dependent on the immigration pathway taken. Assuming you are coming to the U.S as a skilled professional or H1-B employee, you need to know that as a software engineer in the U.S, you will make more than $3k per month. If you have an M.Sc from an American university, you should be able to make $100k+ per year in the U.S Yes, it is more expensive to live in the U.S, but you earn more when you live here, and if you are entrepreneurial, you have access to relatively cheap loans to start and build your business ideas. In addition, the life here is way better and easier compared to Nigeria, and this is because of abundance of basic amenities, quality education, sound healthcare, no significant corruption, and food here is so cheap, among other things. 4 Likes |

Middleborn: Hey What do you think about the tech Industry for someone who's just starting? Do you think AI will replace tech guys? I have asked this question a thousand times and anytime I see someone post something like that on Twitter, it sparks my anxiety. |
Re: Is Japa Worth It? by MT: 3:44pm On Jul 25, 2023 |
dreamxhaser: I read an article yesterday, and if i still see it, i will post it here. The future is that AI will replace all jobs, even the ones that involve emotions. However, it is still a long years ahead, so go into tech and still make your cash, if you are good at it. Humans wont work again, machines will be working for them. How the government will sustain that, I do not know. But that was what I read in one of the articles in the US. |

hazinibones: That’s the age you can do some ‘trial and error’ with your life and you tend to get things right before you cross 30. Relocating abroad after 40 without in-demand skill can be frustrating, even though it is better than not relocating. But at ages above 40, be investing (where your mouth is) back home so that after 50/55 years, you can go back and sit down to enjoy your sweat. If you wait till 65 before leaving, na another person go enjoy bulk of it. Not you. |

Sirchiboy: I am not saying it can't work, infact it will work very easily if you really put your mind into it. However, certain questions now become very important such as; -1 Which country? (Is language going to be a challenge) -2 Are you ready to deal with the difficulty associated with relearning and readapting to humble beginnings or possibly hitting the restart button? -3 Reintegration into a different society -4 How long will it take for residency paperwork to become consolidated As someone in his twenties the above questions would land differently due to a lesser gravitational pull on them, however in your thirties those same questions tend to land heavier. |

First, I will like to congratulate on being able to earn in dollars in Nigeria. My japa journey took 7 years. 'Cold feet na normal thing' I have failed multiple times hence I think I know exactly how you feel. I planned Canada,Belgium, Germany, South Africa and they all failed until Uk welcomed me. To be honest there is no right and wrong answer to what you are seeking, some people come here and regret while some others are flourishing in Nigeria. Just this past weekend, I was talking to a guy close to one of Nigerias top skit maker/comedian and was told he makes on average $70,000 monthly with betting companies signing thousands of dollars deal with them. Such a person cannot make that amount anywhere and would be free of tax. On the other hand, I got a software developer working for a company in the abroad and after a while, they felt it was not safe to have a team member have access to sensitive information about the company stay in Nigeria. He was told to leave. Truth be told the stigma against Nigeria is very bad, most people are just waiting to change their passport. I know a good number of Nigerian celebrities that bought passports from caribbean countries just to ease movement and do business without stress. My advice: Keep your job, do it with all your strength for like a year and then consider working for another country outside Nigeria. If you are the only black at the office, trust me,you might have issues with your colleagues. I wish you all the best hazinibones: 1 Like |
