Negotiations are just what we engage in to flavor our animalistic nature. Because a step below that is basically the law of the jungle.

So for example, as a country signs treaties and enacts UN laws, it still maintains a large military to fight off invaders, because the documents countries are signing are not what protects them, but their ability to fight if the other party breaks it.

Or when a bank is giving you a loan, and you both sign documents, but the banks make sure they have collateral worth more than the loan they give, so when you default, they won't lose.

So as you are entering any agreement/negotiations, make sure that when shit hits the fan, you do not lose, and that your strength is in you, not in the documents you are signing.

Real life examples that butress the above.

Russia would not have invaded Ukraine if Ukraine transposed the minsk agreement. Since Ukraine didn't act civilized, then you, the offended will have to go jungle mode. That's how it works.

Hakimi married his wife, but made sure that if that marriage ends, he will not loose, hence he took measures to protect himself, to avoid rewarding a person that breaks the agreements.

Same thing with the police (maybe not Nigerian police lol). They will treat you civil and protect you, but if you fail to be a good citizen , prison awaits you and in some countries, the death penalty.

Agreements/documents doesn't give you any power, it only regulate how brutal you can be. It's just a step above natural law, which is the jungle law. The law of strength and weakness.

This is real life, and you must know how to live well in it. Agreements are meant to be broken. Humans are notoriously selfish, and will destroy any agreements, marriages, truce etc for their selfishness, especially when you can't deal with them.
