Senate Denies Padding 2024 Budget by InfoGuru118: 2:13am On Mar 10

The Nigerian Senate on Saturday denied reports from some media platforms that it padded the 2024 appropriation budget by well over N4 trillion.

Reacting in a statement made available to Senate Correspondents, Senate Committee Chairman on Media and Publicity, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, questioned the motives of those spreading falsehoods despite the transparent process the budget underwent before being assented to by President Bola Tinubu.

He said the budget document detailing expected revenue and expenditure was already in the public domain, emphasizing that the 10th Senate led by Senator Godswill Akpabio was not aware of any altered version.

The statement read: “There is no budget padding as far as the Senate and the National Assembly are concerned. The National budget is a public document that explicitly states the expected revenue and expenditure of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The Senate, under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio, is not aware of any altered execution of the 2024 appropriation mandate, as approved.

“The budget presentation and approval processes were conducted in the public eye, and the Presidential assent was also part of a public ceremony.

“Any infractions would have been brought before the Senate, if any.

“The general public should rest assured that there is no budget padding anywhere, and we are confident that the 2024 appropriation law shall be strictly executed under strict legislative oversight.”

The monumental hardship being
experienced by Nigerians today are as
a result of the merciless corruption being
perpetrated on us by these rapacious
politicians ...😐😐😐😐

As we have not killed corruption, corruption
is killing us.

Only a change in government as carried out
in those Sahelian West African countries
can stop our journey to total destruction
and eventual anarchy.

We must remember that it was excesses
by the political class of the first Republic
that created the atmosphere which
resulted in the first coup that later cascaded
into civil war 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

I urge the Senate president to compensate those complaining, so the issue will die down as usual.

Of course they will deny it.

As long as the senate is made up of past governors and politicians that have been in the corridor of power since 1999, they are all thieves and capable of padding budget. To them lies come naturally.

This inquiry is directed at tribalists. If the North is intent on destroying Nigeria, why are we not hearing Southern voices in the Senate arguing for good governance?

The true is that corruption has broken our governance. The check to an irresponsible executive has been compromised. How could the Senate have allowed ways and means of 30 trillion without considering the effect of such on inflation and devaluation.

In many ways, Tinubu is not at fault for this terrible situation.
