I bought this toyota 2001 camry model through nairaland autos. Its being great for the past 2 years. Last month i decided to change the shocks and the break pad. After i did this my car no longer runs smoothly. The car behaves as if the front tyres have a problem. If i climb a bump i will hear a loud thud, as if the shock is hitting the car. It is really frustrating. Please i will want someone to help me out in this forum.

kiretiv: I have this splendid 2007 Toyota Rav4 just landed late last year infact but my problem is that the hub makes noise as if there is grease needed something like friction and am willing to know how to grease the hub. Though the road I take is quite muddy with lots of sand and pools of water so I can guess the noise but my point is how to grease the wheel or hub as u may call it. Will like responses, Thanks
Where's the noise coming from? Rear or front? If its the latter I guess you might have to change the hub bearing.

I have to say this is by far the biggest issue with using a Toyota in this country. People buy Toyotas hoping to save on maintenance costs but what you get is a lot of parts fabricated in China and the likes. I suspect that the shocks and even possibly the brake parts were purchased from one of the local parts sellers that bring them in from God knows where. You should always try to check that you have genuine parts that was designed for your car. It is also very possible that the shocks weren't installed properly.

You might need to check your shock Absorber PAD. I guess the absorber is Tokunbo? If yes you might have been sold a REFILLED or GASED[as its locally called] shocks. Which most of the time, the pressure is always too much to bear for the pads. But I'll suggest you asked your mechanic to be honest with you. If its the refill uou'll need your mechanic to reduce the pressure or better still take it Ladipo it shouldn't cost more than #700 to reduce it. [speaking from experience though]

Go and check your linkage or stabilizer rod bushings, Ball joints, and tie rods and tie rod endings.
That model of camry always has problems with these and they make a lot of noise when any of them get bad.
They are quite cheap if you are buying new parts. Tie rod and tie rods ends is about 2k for the Pair, ball joints is about 1500 for the pair and linkage is also 1500 for the pair. Bear in mind that these parts are all sub standard parts that fill the market these days so as a result once you start changing them, be sure to do that every 6 months at most.

I don't really have a car for now. In fact, i'm a fresh graduate hunting for job but always happy with toyota users for their choice. I so much love toyota camry especially the latest versions. I believe someday, i'll buy one.

Wow! I made this comment 8 years ago but thank God, job has finally come. My dream of cruising in Camry is becoming feasible day in day out!

.......and I got my dream Camry car on 28th March, 2022. To God be the glory!

[/quote) Thanks. I will do that. Do you think it has anything to do with wheel balancing and alignment? My car has no noise. Just the wavy movement as if the tyres are bad when in motion and the noise from the shock absorber when in contact with a bump. (Tyres are new and did wheel balancing 2 months back)

ameristu: I have this nice Toyota Solara and I must tell you. It is the best Toyota money can buy.
It's handling, torque comfort is second to none. Love my baby. Mine is black.

If its the 1999- 2001 toyota solara its the best toyota so far , I have drive the 1999- 2007 toyota camry/corolla and they lack power/torque ,Even the 2008 toyota camry v6 lack the torque i get from the solara in 5 sec i can reach 120km/hr from a solara, but fuel economy is the problem

timbros: Here, i'll start by posting my car pictures...

MODEL: Camry
YEAR: 1996
A.K.A: Orobo
ENGINE: I4 2.2L

Notice in the interior picture, the CD player's face is missing. It was stolen maybe in the wharf (Just bought the car). The problem is, I dont know the make of CD that it came with so I find it hard to get a replacement. I have searched through Ikokwu (I stay in PH) but couldnt find a replacement. I have been advised to change the CD completely but i'm still hesitant. I really want to see if I can get the face of this "follow come". Any help on where I can look for it? If I know the exact CD that is, I dont mind having someone help me search for it in Ladipo, Lagos.

Any help or advice is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Openup the left rear door... u should see it there...

Comrades, dont forget we have many nairalanders that cant afford you status symbol with all the 2010 - 2012 camry, avalon, honda etc.
Bring us home to talk cars 1996-2004 (Toyota) which are common with most Naija guys and you will be helping us a lot.
For me i have been using Honda since just want to try Toyota but still confused between Corolla 2003 and Camry 2004
The 2003 corolla has speed of 180km/h and most pple say its light especially when driving at 120km/h. you can easily loose control if a tanker/trailer passes you.
the camry 2004, it is big but that's not the problem, my mechanic said you need 200k to change engine, over 100k for gear box. this are the areas i feel one needs to be prepared for since fairly used/toks cars may end up with this problem. in addition, how can buy a car for 1.5million then (God forbid) will have to squeeze out that much to change engine/gear box if faulty.
When i can get opel, smallar honda (academy, halla etc) engine for 50-60k at most.
My heart is with the camry LE 2003 - 2004 but i need somebody to encourage me more (between now and tomorrow) if it is worth the buy.

wow I made front page!

Thanks everyone for commenting. I have read some helpful comments so far and i'll love to see the comments flowing.

N.B: Like the topic says, this is a thread for TOYOTA. So please guys, can we keep the comments based on Toyota only? I believe there is a thread for Honda cars. Please this thread is not for comparing which of the brands is the best. Keep the comments TOYOTA pleaes. Thanks.

dioman: MODEL: Toyota Corrolla
YEAR: 2000

The Car was in a good condition till last week, afta using d AC on Tuesday for a whole day, d car couldnt spark on Wednesday morning. D fault was trace
to the battery of which we replaced with a new 75A battery. After driving a whole day again with AC, d battery was down. I've replaced my alternator cos my electrician complained that it wsnt charging full bt all to no avail. am tired....any help.
The problem may be as a result of a faulty relay that requires a competent electrician to diagnose. To comfirm this, disconnect the battery +ve terminal before retiring to bed and reconnect in d morning. If it starts, continue this practice until u isolate the faulty relay. Had same experience with my benz. Replaced battery and alternator before i figured the root cause. Pls. If it works, update the house. Best of luck.

I bet it that the brake pads are not original. Get original parts and enjoy your car.

It is generally believed that the chassis and engine nos of Toyota Corolla 2005 are the same. Kindly confirm this if you are a user.

I have a camry2001 model, its alwz giving me a virgin problem in d sense dat mechanics may nt hav heard about it before.
The current problem is dat d engine turns off by itself and it starts without problem only to turn off after a couple of minutes and I will start it again till I get to my destination.
It rily gets me so depressed especially when I hear that the model is free from wahala.
