kinguwem: The Hon. Member may be patriotic but is ignorant about security issues. Nigeria is at war with insurgents/terrorists. Military equipment are expensive. Already lives have been lost. Does he want more lives to be lost because of $1 billion. The legislature does oversight functions, he should tell us how previous defence budgets were spent.

No Jonathan is the C in C and therefore should request the minister of defence and the finance minister who is acting as a default prime minister to investigate what was done with 3trillion. The NAF bosses have directed the bulk of that money to their accounts and GEJ is doing nothing about it to appease them and keep them on his side

YoursGEJ: To be honest I thought the $1 billion loan issue was just a rumor. Somebody please tell me that our retardeen of a president is not actually seeking a loan to fight the terrorists he is funding. When you think Jonathan cannot do anything less stu_pid, he comes up with new gymnastics.

Rather than plugging leaking holes, the goat wants to go and borrow. This is similar to what happened with fuel subsidy where he preferred to have Nigerians pay 3x for petrol while oil marketers were taking billions without doing a single thing.

Ok, what happened to the hundreds of billions from the defence budget? How will he pay back the loan? Will the money generate interest when it is put to work? Where is the proof for a return on investment that will convince a sensible organization to part with that amount of money? Will they even use it for what they claim?
Abi dem go use am to impeach more opposition governors, buy gold-plated iphone and distribute at their next owambe and buy paper to sign MoUs wey no go ever result in anything

And a human being with brain will vote this man in 2015 shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked

[size=18pt]You talk like an illiterate without sense of reasoning?

What do you know about the budgets appropriated for defense in this country? When foreign and local security experts are saying that the money won't be enough. Are you aware that the money that is been given to the army in the last 4 years is not the same as announced by National Assembly. Before the funds even gets to the Army account-a huge chunk of it have been the deducted by lawmakers.

Do you really know how much a fighter jet costs?

Do you really know how much a modern armored tank cost?

Do you know the price of high tech helicopter that can fly in the sky and detect moving objects as far as 2000 feet.

What about compensation for families of chibok and soldiers that have lost their lives?

Do you know that Borno State is almost 91,000 sq km. with the most difficult terrain? Almost X11 of Abuja put together.

We must support Jonathan to fight these dare devil agents BOKO HARAM and stop this unrealistic accusations about stealing the money when you can't prove it. Boko Haram is well equipped and the only way to win this war is to support the military to win it for us not with our dirty comments.

HARDUBUY: since the emergence of Boko haram, GEJ had always buggeted 1Trillion Naira ($6billion) for security per year...yet, nothing to show for, as the situation is growing more pathetic.
He's nothing but a crook...Looking for money to campaigne and rig election with or the one to steal as he'll soon leave office!
what about the missing $20billion?
don't u know that GEJ and his boys in Nigeria military hijacked Boko Haram in order to make cool money. How can a well trained soldiers find it difficult to tackle the amateur Boko haram groups. Just look at the case of armed robberys and Nigeria Police, imagine robberys robbed successfully in nigerian cities without getting arrested. Police always complained about poor tools to tackle sophisticated armed robberys while proffesional army also complained about their poor arms to tackle an amateur boko haram groups.

We should acknowledge the truth irrespective of the source, truth should be sacrosanct just like facts. I will go with Gbajabiamila , Here is the reason. The president after careful analysis said we need $1b, which we don't have. But we have more than that in resources, so we could convince OPEC to give us more quota, Even a 100k barrels per day increase would do, If we are able to achieve that, we then look for seller of high spec machines ( no need to convince them, all of them need crude, sweet crude at that). Assuming we are paying 100kbpd, in a month we would have paid 3mbpd, let's say the value is $100 per barrel, in a month we would have $300m( and 60% of that goes to the govt, while 40% goes to the IOC). 60 % 0f 300m will be 180m. So we pay 180m per month and in one year we would have finished payment of the $1b war equipment. it makes sense to me.

berem: 3trillion Naira allocated to the defence in 3years? LORD HAVE MERCY!!

embarassed embarassed

My dear sister, is this not why some continue to insist that GEJ is literally getting away with murder because Nigeria has never been this divided along ethnic and religious lines. If not for how terribly divided Nigerians are today, along sectional lines, should every single Nigerian not angrily condemn this insanity whereby the GEJ Government has frittered 3 trillion ($18 billion) allocated for defence and security over 3 years only to be insensitively asking for another $1 billion when there is absolutely nothing to show for the massive amount devoted to fighting insecurity under Jonathan? This would spark a revolution in almost any other nation on earth !!! I.e $18 billion devoted to fighting terrorism and insecurity is looted callously by treasonous elements, while the nation becomes far more insecure and significantly greater number of Nigerians are being maimed and killed by terrorist, yet the Government has the nerve to ask for a $1billion loan !!!

All this at a time we are supposed to have healthy 'rainy day' savings facilitated by how oil price per barrel has been significantly higher than budgeting benchmark for the entire time GEJ has been President!!!! Benchmark hovers around $75.00 per barrel yet oil has been above $100 for virtually most of the Presidency of GEJ. Give or take, Nigeria is gaining at least $20 per barrel above benchmark. Given the volume of oil Nigeria sells daily, one does not need to be a rocket scientist to know the sort of savings Nigeria should have put away which means it is insanity for GEJ to now be asking approval to borrow a mere $1 billion we will likely be paying interest on when we this sort of amount should be a small part of what Nigeria has put away in savings for emergency spending !!! This is why I have no doubt $20 billion indeed 'disappeared' as Sanusi revealed.

I am in no doubt that GEJ is running Nigeria like a Ponzi scheme and that Nigeria is indeed broke with brazen deception being the only thing Okonjo-Iweala et al are using to fool the world that the situation is otherwise. The brazen looting GEJ is supervising truly marks him out as inhumanly corrupt. Jonathan , if Nigeria was not so divided currently, should head the queue of leaders to be impeached immediately so that, without any delay, our nation can be rescued from the huge crash she is heading toward at 200 miles per hour!!!! I personally cannot believe, given all we know, that GEJ has the nerve to ask for this loan and I cannot understand why lawmakers should even be considering the request when they should be probing far, far bigger past allocation which appears to now have been embezzled brazenly !!!! How much is the amount Nyako was alleged to have mismanaged, to warrant his 'gra gra' impeachment, in comparison to what was looted n fuel subsidy scam plus the $18 billion pumped into security and defence under GEJ? Is the callous looting of funds meant to keep Nigerians safe and secure not far more grievous and deserving of punishment than anything else? Crazy nation.

Taking u by some of the points u raised: first u claimed that money given to the military in last 4yrs is not as the same as announce by the national assembly, ARE U FOR REAL, how is that suppose to be national assembly responsibility? U claimed that before the funds even get to the army's account a huge chunk of it must have been deducted by the lawmakers, SLOWPOKE u must be taking administrative matter for the story u read in ur comic book right. On ur claim that boko haram is well equipped, u must be thinking as well dat boko haram has access to funds than Nigeria army, maybe u shuld read Ugele's comment on this subject to gain some intelligence and stop venting nuisance on this thread.

We shouldn't have asked the North if they don't need this loan. All that Mr. gej should have done is to call the North to a round table conference and discuss the politics of the North from inside out. The war of boko haram is that of opinion. I don't think gathering of arms and ammunition, and even intelligence can stop the war. The North should choose whether such amount should be used to pursue unending war or for the development of their jobless youths.

Many of their leaders already have multiples of such amount in their custody but don't know how to harness it for development of their region. Mr. Gej should appease them to do the needful for the uplifting of the downtrodden who are perennial nuisance in the region.

Are you minding them? They are like rabid dogs with an uncontrollable instinct to bark senselessly and without thinking. I can say, without fear of contradiction, that Jonathanians are by far the least intelligent members of the politics sector of Nairaland. They add nothing to Nairaland or indeed Nigeria. From how they all talk ignorantly, in a feudalistic and unintelligent manner, it is amply clear that the fans of GEJ are clannish elements only interested in the blind defence of their misruling and destructively corrupt 'messiah'.

These nauseating characters are not at all concerned about the far more important consideration of good governance and this would explain why they would be the only ones who would have a problem with what Gbajabiamila has said. Many of them are like cheerleaders just given lines and placards to read unquestioningly. They are indeed illiterates. Considering that "Birds of a Feather flock together", their m0r0nic support of GEJ is perfectly in order.
