It is safer outside..bt if at all its in your kitchen
1.make sure your gas regulator is not leaking.
2.make sure your gas valve is not leaking.you can put water on it to detect leakage. if it is leaking you can take a bar soap and your regulator to stop the leakage by simply cutting small bar soap in the valve and use the pointed part of the regulator to press it.this will stop the leakage.
While in the kitchen make sure your cooker or table top is not near your cylinder.you can place the cylinder inside a cupboard.and make sure the kitchen window is open always.

Finaly you should always be careful.

A couple died in my city few weeks ago because of gas fire. Was told to relocate the gas cylinder in our house out side with immediate effect.

mstik: It's better to keep it outside the kitchen. Gas leaks can occur, and it will be disastrous if it happens when the burner is on.

Choices are limited if subject lives in a multistorey building.

TundeCole: Hi Nlanders! Just curious. Is it advisable to place your gas cylinder filled with gas right in the kitchen where you cook? Especially a not too big kitchen.

12.5kg cylinders and amaller go inside while anything bigger is placed outside.

Cylinders don't jus explode. Turn off while not in use. Tighten tthe hose to prevent leakage. Ull be safe.

All while I was growing up my parents had the gas cylinder in the kitchen.
Mine has been in my kitchen for 5 years now.
Just be cautious.

No! its not mandatory to put your gas cylinder outside your kitchen, The effect of Heat from the sun causes the gas pipe to soften hereby you can still have a gas leak, Our cylinder has been in our kitchen right from the time i was a kid, no gas palaver, ensure you are just careful thats all
PS: Even kerosine explosion occurs in a situation where you end up being careless
Re: Is It Safe To Place Your Gas Cylynder In The Kitchen by newacca: 10:43am On Aug 03, 2014
laudate: Hi, put the cylinder far away from your cooker when it is being used, and please ensure that your kitchen is well ventilated always (i.e. windows are always open). You can also install a small gas detector in your kitchen which can detect gas leaks, and give off an alarm if gas escapes from the cylinder or cooker. undecided

Always ensure your valves are properly fitted and the pipe/hose does not leak. Get a technician to service your burner like once a quarter to ensure that all the soot and grime is removed from the burner so that nothing disturbs the free flow of air.

Finally, get a good fire extinguisher in your kitchen with a clear indicator gauge showing the level of foam or extinguisher material in the cylinder, and learn how to use it in case of an emergency! wink
Thank you. smiley

Gas cylinders are meant to be outside the kitchen. As someone earlier posted,it is advised to install gas leak detector or smoke detector in the kitchen. One of the reasons I posted on a thread that "our govt is not proactive" is that it should be made mandatory for every landlord to have atleast two fire extinguisher cylinders as it is for every car owner to have a fire extinguisher cylinder.

As gas cylinders are meant to be placed outside so is fire extinguisher, near kitchen entrance.

Though I have not witness gas explosion but I believe it is more dangerous than kerosene. Sun heat can only soften hose when it is use for gas outside the kitchen. If a gas cylinder is not place outside, then it must have a small room of its own.
It is not mandatory but it is safe to use copper pipe for gas to reduce risk of leakage.

My friend and Colleague... She died of gas explosion in her kitchen on the 12th March 2014. What better way to warn us. She kept her cylinder in kitchen. On that fateful day like any other day she went in to cook and immediately she lit her burner everything exploded on her.
Honestly it is environmentally wrong, health wise and so many other reasons why our cylinders should be kept outside our kitchen. Atleast for our safety. KEEP IT OUTSIDE.
I just dey round in circles sef! I no know wetin to write again.
Continue to RIP my dear friend.

For the past 30 years, our gas cylinder has been in the kitchen right beside the cooker. Not a single accident has been recorded by God's grace.

My gas bottle has been in my kitchen for 2years now, just below the cooker and beside the freezer, but I always lock the cylinder head after cooking.

A gas cylinder is pressurised. U can put it right next to ur cooker. Grew up with this nd been doin it personally for 14 years. Derez nothing bad. I didn't know that people actually put the cylinder outside. The danger of keeping a gas cylinder near the cooker is the same as storing fuel in a car

Well just learnt this in my Plastic surgery Class about burns.. I learnt is best to place d cylinder outside the kitchen for best reason
1) Incase there is a leak, the gas wud diffuse into the air and reduce the concentration as compared to if its in d kitchen wch is often small with little ventilation.
2) If there is leakage along the hose d same principle of diffusion applies
3) Even if explosion occurs, d cylinder is in an open space

Why dont you buy the plastic transparent type, its much safer and in an event of fire outbreak,it only melts as against the metal ones that explode.
