wow! the realism is off the chart, I couldn't expect less from autodesk and chaosgroup

BTW, did you model that car yourself?
Realism is not art. Realism can be boring. Composition everything.
Just expressing my view on what seemes to be creeping in here, on this thread......the tendency for 'certain beings' to subtly denigrate Blender.

Lord have mercy! this looks just like my friend's brother. We are gettin there....really!
How do u cope with environ modelling and with xter?

Kazuna finding it trifling at best. Hope you will turn out a generalist....its d best way to be a CG impressionae.
keep up the good work Yinskey....

I am still trying hard with my Monsters development, hope before this year runs out, I'd post some pics of them.

lol.

will keep trying until am comfortable with it...organic modeling does gives me problem at. times.

lol @"realism can be boring". I thought making your imagination a reality(as real as possible) is what art is suppose to be #myOpinonTho.
I also think nobody or "certain beings" as you said is/are trying to denigrate blender. blender is an awesome software, that's why people like Andrew price, gleo etc are still stuck with blender even tho there are better software(3ds max, Maya, cinema 4D etc) out there.

moving on to more serious issues, is there any compatible yafaray(32bits) for blender 2.71 or 2.66+? or is there any other good external renderer you'd recommend

they are many, such Arnold render, octane render, luxrender, vray etc but if I may ask, why do you still needed external renders when you have cycles, cycles. is like a threat to those renderer.... lol

After jumping on and off blender through the week, I was able to complete the retopology of the model I mentioned earlier. Her name is Glanda grin and here is a link to her blend file for those that might be interested https://www.dropbox.com/s/xkvphxqq9b5o69e/Glanda_Mesh.zip?dl=0 . She is neither rigged nor textured, just base mesh, sculpted mesh and retopo'd mesh. Below is an extended work based on her that I'm currently working on (sorry this is not included in the blend file undecided)

ya cycles this, cycles that. cycles is the slowest, noisiest and most complicated renderer eyes ever seen, I can't even make a glass cup with that stuff. maybe cycles is GPU dependent, then I'd understand, since my GPU is quite old.

there's no need to b such a fanatic mehn...m jst nt a blender fan,YET....but to insinuate that i'm undermining d quality of blender would b totally wrng...d thing is awesome for suh a small package,i mean;modeling, sculpting,vFx,a grt renderer,scripting..etc,all in 1 225mb package is swt...but i dnt knw,y,but it jst dsnt freak me....i dnt have any favorite i jst learn d much i can with all i can for versitility nd besides some cg softwares r better at some tasks than others,so focusing on 1 will b quite limiting..

blender is great...case closed

mean while...abeg,where do u guys get ur tuts from

firstly blender is a 47mb package not 225mb

secondly, which tuts are you talking abt? blender's or 3D max?
for blender, lotta free ebooks and YouTube tuts out there plus sites like blendernation, blender guru, blender cookie and blender artist are host of a lotta tuts.
for 3Dmax, I dunno since I don't use the software

I tried luxrender a while ago, seems pretty complex to me, but for cycles it made my. life easier for its material node support using the node editor .

Soonest blender 3D will be one year in my possession. And I must say that It has been fun all through the 12 months. That been said, I'll make a little presentation of my toils in blender right from abinatio to what I have at the moment. Thanks to Stephen who is the CEO of this wonderful blender community thread though he has decided to be absent for reasons best known to him. Then the Great engineers of the thread, the Blender3D patriots, the MEN!..likes of Shimsh, Ladanski,Kazuma, ncpat, bluemag, also in that same tag we have Yinksay (I love the spirit man) then preboy whom I don't want to believe he is yet to peg his tent in Blender. @Preboy... I want you to know that you can do massively a lot with blender. It is an open software therefore a lot of programmers are workin round the clock for the sake of this software. I started with version 6.8 and is not even a year yet we now have 6.9,7.0 and 7.1.not to mention the previous versions. What does this tell you.. that the blender3D community and programmers are up spot. Like one of us said and I quote
Yinksey:
they are many, such Arnold render, octane render, luxrender, vray etc but if I may ask, why do you still needed external renders when you have cycles, cycles. is like a threat to those renderer.... lol
and not just to these render engines also to other 3D packages. Am not here to convince you, like I said you have your choice so make do with it.
I still believe strongly that soonest we will dive into a short movie. All we need is to make up our minds about it and be enthusiast too...I bet you guys we will achieve it.
For those who would like to derail this thread should resist please...when ever you visit this thread please let's speak one language( blender language) other 3D packages have there own spot so when ever you need to discuss or ask questions on them pls go straight to them.
To my fellow Blender masters God bless and keep up the good work.

Yeah I added some color to her and made her look a bit human wink

And please don't mind her "African Queen" hairstyle grin I'll add hair later
For the skin texture GIMP was used to blend the Ambient Occlusion bake with the base diffuse color and the remaining painting done 100% using Blender's Texture Paint smiley. The Cloth was done in GIMP (not much of a work actually smiley ) still using the same AO diffuse color blending style used above.

Next is to rig her and see how she "moves to the beat" grin but that will be when I get another break from coding cry

@tos87 guy I love open source programs/softwares and I've been been using blender for almost 2 months now, so my loyalty can't be questioned. you of all people should know that I've been on this thread longer than I've owned my PC.

to prove my loyalty, my favorite blender feature is;
€MIT + INDIRECT LIGHTNING ~too bad cycles doesn't support it

HUUUUUU.....am also an adherent of transhumanism.....have ya read Hawking's A brief history of time?
Have you read the thread lately? I meant past posts on our open movie stuff? we ve been tryin up a story but it seems comatose, at least at the moment...I would ve love a story along those transhumanist lines.
Can you help spear this up? You know push thangz towards this open movie project of ours.

you guys have forced cycles on me, now I can't get my textures right. I am unable to input an image as a texture and there is no stucci option unlike blender render.

is there any standalone eBook that focus on the use of cycles? I don't have enough data to watch the Andrew price video

I've been following the thread's discussion of an open movie and I think its a great idea. Coming up with a story along the transhumanism line is not a problem just that we'll have to be sure everyone involve approves of it

For this, you haven't scratched off cycles surface yet. Of course you can use image as texture in cycles. If you are in Lagos..we can arrange for lots of tuts from my blender tut Lib. .
