@OP, it is not as if Anambra is superior to other Igbos but its just that it is regarded as a royal thing sort of to be from anambra. Just as Americans, Britons, Australians are all English speaking and genetically the same people but being from England kinda attaches this prestige to you and your English accent stands you out from all other English speakers. Same applies to Anambra people and Anambra Igbo.

Many things contribute to this fact. History has it that Nri-Igbo Ukwu axis in Anambra is the cradle of the Igbo race, from which other Igbos came from. Many other theories exist that say otherwise anyway. Another thing has to do with the Anambra general dialect. Anambra Igbo is deemed posh, sweet-sounding and classy to speak of all Igbo dialects. When one mentions Anambra general Igbo, one refers specifically to the Onitsha/Awka/Enugwu-Ukwu/Nri Igbo that is used to represent Anambra. When I was growing up I used to follow my dad to many social Igbo gatherings, and I observed that the general Igbo spoken was the anambra dialect, and many non-anambra Igbos all spoke the dialect. This is so because it is somewhat the easiest of Igbo dialects to learn and speak and very easy to understand by all other Igbo groups. The Onitsha man does not need to twist his Igbo for any random Igbo person to understand him. He is easily understood by everyone. On the other hand, an Owerri man or Abakaliki man, in order for an outsider to understand him, has to modify his Igbo to be understood. It has also remained the default dialect in most Igbo speaking movies since the inception of Nollywood till today and non-Anambra Igbos all speak the dialect in the movies. Also, for those Igbos who like to form English-speaking Ajebo and classy chic/guy, they can speak Anambra Igbo and not be regarded as ajepako unlike compared to some concentrated Igbo dialects which when spoken Igbos around you will immediately regard you as 'bush person', i.e 'onye ime obodo'. I did my secondary school in Owerri and my Igbo secondary school teacher was from Anambra and we had 2 Igbo teachers that taught us, the second being from Imo state and each assigned to particular classes. Everybody used to enjoy the Anambra woman's class because of her Igbo and her classes were always very full and students from the other classes assigned to the other Igbo teacher would come to my class during Igbo class time just to listen to the woman speak. Anambra Igbo is admired all over Igboland and when in other states, especially Imo and Abia state, and you speak Anambra Igbo, many would often reply you back in the dialect and want you to speak on so they could enjoy it more. I grew up and also did my NYSC in Owerri, Imo state and countless times have I been admired because of my Anambra Igbo accent. My PPA was Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission(ISOPADEC), a commission in charge of all oil producing activities in Imo state but they drafted we corpers out to special schools to impact positively in terms of education to the students. The moment my students knew I was from Anambra, they wouldn't let me be o everyday I came to work. In class, I must speak Anambra Igbo to them or else they'd start making loud noises. grin I usually told them stories, in Anambra Igbo, and they loved it so much each time I did and they would be going crazy because of the dialect. Some even went out of their way to learn the dialect and once I stepped into class, they'd start speaking it to me...and I'd be like... cheesy. I also remember making a call one day to my distant cousin from the same village, I had just bought credit from the store woman and stood nearby making the call in my dialect, and next thing she and her husband came out of their store, to look for that anambra guy speaking this Anambra Igbo, and when they saw it was me and refused to go inside again o but stood there listening to my conversation. When I noticed what was happening, trust me nau smiley, I even increased my tempo and blasted the thing the more...they just stood there smiling at me. cheesy Once I dropped the call, they walked back inside their store smiling. wink Aha, I just made someone's day.grin Or how many times have I gotten away with great deals and bargains at Owerri main market just because I spoke Anambra Igbo. Immediately they knew i'm from Anambra they'll be like...'nwa anambra!'...and tended to ease up and gave me much better deals. Even my mom was loved greatly at FUTO Owerri where she worked just because she's from Anambra...'nwanyi Anambra' as they would fondly call her.

Anambra people are also known by other Igbos to be hardworking, have money, or good at business and Imolites the ones going to school the most in Igboland. Many high profile Igbo indigenes tend to come from Anambra such as Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie, Cosmas Maduka aka Cosharis, owner of Ekene dili Chukwu Motors, Ifesinachi Motors, owner of Innoson motors, Dora Akunyili, Oby Ezekwesili, Philip Emeagwali(aka father of the Internet), Pete Edochie, Oge Okoye, P Square, Flavour etc are all from Anambra. Last year, one of our family friends from Ebonyi state told me how majority of the real estate properties and high-profile buildings and houses in Abakaliki are owned by Anambra people. It is the desire of many non-anambra girls to marry an Anambra man because they believe they would not suffer financially. Anambra men and women make very good husbands and wives too.

And also, anambra people help each other a lot! We call it, 'ime nwanne' ie 'brotherly relationships'. This is one big difference I noticed between Anambrarians and Imolites. Anambra people tend to be nicer and kinder. It is common to find a selfless person or an averagely rich man/woman in Anambra training orphans, less-priviledged people, distant relations or people not related to him in anyway all through primary, secondary and university, feeding and clothing them in addition. This is quite rare to find in Imo state. In Enugu township(formerly Anambra's state capital and still retains mainly Anambra Igbo, many Anambra people live there, and the Anambra attitude) or Awka(capital of Anambra state), you can literally run out of transport money on the streets and walk up to people to plead for money and before you reach the 3rd person you would have found someone who would give you the money you need in full, however in Imo state you would have to reach the 15th or 20th person to find someone willing to help you out. Being kind is a rarity in Imo state but a normal thing in Enugu or Anambra state.

It is not my intention to extol anambra state or anambra Igbo over other dialects but I am giving you an insider's view, as an Igbo person born and bred in Igboland, of the extra attention given to Anambra state and people in Igboland by other Igbos.

This is the biggest load of horseshyte I've come across in my ENTIRE stay on this planet.
Not only are you a delusional braggart, you're a farking liar-and a bad one at that.I've been to Owerri countless times and I've NEVER heard ANYBODY speak Anambra Igbo for any reason whatsoever;you only wish.Lord knows I can't be caught dead substituting R for L,L for N and H for F,for any reason whatsoever.

Onitsha dialect is not even remotely comprehensible to me.My roomie is from Onitsha and I swear when she goes all Onitsha,I don't understand a frigging word. She speaks the 'general' anambra Igbo and that's fine by me,though I still need some translations here and there.

All the other horseshyte you wrote there is just...
Darn,dude.Delusional much?
The only way people I know treat Anambrians is with WARINESS.
Yup.Wariness.Most people I know wouldn't even touch an Anambra person with a 100 foot pole.
You're a pathetic LIAR.Nobody will ever give you preferential treatment because you're from Anambra. What a big LAUGH cheesy
People called ya mum 'nwanyi anmabra' because she is from Anambra, and not because they were in awe of her,or whatever. Different 'nwayis' exist everywhere - nwayi umuahia, nwayi mbaise, nwayi abriba, nwayi afikpo etc,and when peeps see them, they hail them. That's how igbos ball, generally.

The other things you wrote about receiving better deals JUST because you're from anambra...dream on,my brother. You're a LIAR.

And that ya crazy theory that most non anambra igbo chics dream of marrying an anamra man because of riches?Darned if that's not the most amusing bullcrap I've heard all year.

And ya crazy arssed theory about imo peeps not being helpful?Has it ever happened to you?Have you gone on begging sprees in both states(Imo and Anambra)?
How did you come about that fascinating conclusion,Francöis?

You're delusional, and you need help.Ndi igbo bu ofu.
You've been jumping up and jumping down on this thread, saying you don't mean to extol the virtues of ya state above others.Well, here's some news for ya: THAT'S WHAT YOU ENDED UP DOING.

[b]Insult you?! Tufiakwa..

This thread is an insult to Ndi Anambra. I tried to get that message across in my very first post that this thread is more negative and detrimental to Ndi Igbos in general than anything yet you chose to continue with the baseless attacks on Anambraians. You labelled us supremacists and called our history false. Yet you stand here to say I insulted you. If I did, it can only be described as a reprisal attack.

You asked if you are a Yoruba girl that opened the thread, I guess I got it wrong on that point.. Probably because you share the same sentiments as that 0femm@nu Pig. You have obviously strived very hard at buttressing the point of this thread. The surprising part was even the comments made by Abagworo..

Anyways, I am only supporting the aspertion of superiority that has been ascribed to my people. We are superior, the rest are inferior.. I can live with that. All animals are equal, but some just have to be more equal than others.. Thats the way life has made it.

The thread on its own is an insult to all non Anambras. What exactly is the basis or source of that assertion by the first anambra person that replied her.
What does dialect, royalty, personality have to do with being special and different from the rest of the Igbos.
I have tried to stay away from generialization cos i know that people are not the same. I only trash people with vain supremacist ideas.
To be continued....

I've been to Onitsha twice with my roomie.Went to her house. My first time there, her mum asked me some questions in a dialect that was entirely strange to me.
I just stood there, staring at her with wide innocent puppy dog eyes, not knowing what to say, till she understood and switched to English.
I noticed the same thing with her dad,and her cousins that came over.

I DO understand peeps from Aguata, though.I don't know about the rest.

Now that you all seem to have calmed down, I'll simply place here what I have to say and walk away.

I honestly am beside myself reading through the posts, comments and responses in this thread. The level of bile and ignorance in here is disgusting. We are now well into the post-colonial period; a period in which people actually have the opportunity to learn about the other sub-cultures that comprise "Igbo", rather than regurgitating the misstatements that plagued early Igbo "historical literature". We are at a point where it is no longer necessary to lie and purport "historical" falsehoods simply to maintain the construct that is "nde Igbo". We are at a point where it makes no sense for someone to display ignorance and promote supremacist claims in a period where people really ought to know better.

There is no excuse, no reason whatsoever, for the continued perpetuation of ignorance, especially on the part of Nri folks. It's as if you people are trying so hard to hold on to some impression of yourself, believing that it makes a legitimate historical, cultural and anthropological difference. It's as if you all are blind, deaf and dumb to the fact that significant swathes of communities have no recollection of your authority or presence in their area? From Urata to Ehilihite. Ikwere to Ngwa. Umuahia to Izii. None recognize neither your lineage nor hegemony. There emphatically exists a significant if not complete lack of tradition that even mentions your name. In all sincerity, you only make yourselves out to look like fools, purporting unsubstantiated, supremacist claims in the face of such overwhelming contradiction.

To top it all off, you want to ignore the actual oral traditions neighboring groups have concerning you, as if those don't exist. There is no other way to say this other than that it's almost incomprehensible how dense you people are, especially in this post-colonial period. You want to champion the "Igbo cause", and yet make enemies of "nde Igbo" in the process. It's counter-intuitive.

To the rest of you Anambra haters on th thread, please dont beat yourself up because you are not Anambra Igbo.. There is absolutely nothing you can do about the circumstances of your birth.. Some of us are just more favoured than the other.. cool You can however help your future generations by selecting your spouse wisely. grin

Hahahahaha!! You are a fool. I feel no kinship with you people, none whatsoever. I can NEVER marry from your side...I hear your women are know for dominating their men and killing them for their possessions. Is that true?!
