culled from Hilary Clinton's memoirs - Hard choices

No country has suffered more from the resource curse than Nigeria.

Nigeria could be a G-20 member and an influential global voice if it made the hard choice to overcome the resource curse.

When I visited in 2009 and 2012, I stressed the urgency of Nigerians tackling corruption and investing revenues to improve millions of lives, not swell personal fortunes.

Nigeria's GDP was $83B in 1983, with all the so called civilian corruption. Two years after Buhari and his mad men took over, Nigeria's GDP dropped to $43B. In 1999 it was $36B, so, the saints from the Nigerian army starting frfom Osama bin Buhari, took our economy from a $83B in 1983 under NPN to $36B in 1999. After 15 years of PDP corruption rule, we are now $522B. I will remain with the PDP corruption rule.

A British writer made exactly the same prediction shortly after independence eons ago. There's a missing part of the jigsaw though; leadership. And the inability of the best to ever rise to the top.

She's right on point with the statement. I've always said that Naija would have been a more powerful country than UK, France and Germany if we had had credible thinking leaders

YES, Nigeria could have been there if HILARY CLINTON had accepted the Nigerian government plea to place Boko-Haram as a terrorist organisation and thus officially stop it's funding and ability to raise/transfer fund legally

YES, If Hilary Clinton's America had agreed to SELL arms to the Nigerian Military

Yes, If CIA had agreed to help Nigeria by sharing important Intelligence reports on TIMELY basis

Even Zmapp, they refused to give Nigeria

dearis God oh! Hilary Clinton

On healthcare, Jonathan gets an F. If a Nigerian gets cancer today and can't afford private treatment, he will die. Even obtaining aspirin in a public hospital can prove impossible.

Education is particularly problematic: tens of millions of Nigerians are illiterate. Most cannot afford an education: without government assistance, thus far feeble, they will remain intellectual invalids. Nigeria's rulers need to understand that a country is not respected because of the number of oil barrels it sells, but because of the quality of citizen it produces: F.

Jonathan's record on corruption is a disgrace. A recent report from the US State Department was spot on when it cited "massive, widespread, and pervasive corruption affecting all levels of government".

Asked to disclose his assets, the man whose parents couldn't afford shoes refused. For emphasis, he said he "doesn't give a damn" what anybody thinks about it. The Council of States, led by Jonathan, meanwhile pardoned his former boss, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, who had been convicted of money-laundering.

On security, Jonathan has dithered. Boko Haram, the Islamist terrorist group, has killed thousands on his watch, while he seems unsure whether to use crushing force or grant "amnesty" (read: bribes), as he has offered. Boko Haram laughed in his face. It is Jonathan's government that should plead for amnesty, it has suggested.

In a country where the rule of law remains a dream, Jonathan's message is terrible: he is, in effect, saying: "Prove to us you are strong enough to make our lives difficult and we'll give you a share of the pie." How can a president expect loyalty from his citizens if he appears to lack the power to protect them?

Adjust your oil price for today's dollar value, what value is $64 in 1983 , , compared to 2013 it is almost $150 per barrel. You need lots of lecture. Get a book and read.

Mr. President has displayed too much incompetence in handling corruption in Nigeria and several of his other responsibilities as president and remarks like the one in Davos, buttresses this point.

It is most unfortunate that our president has a kindergarten understanding of graft and its concomitant effects. He seizes every speaking opportunity to make excuses why he cannot fight corruption. Such prevarication will not help the anti-graft war; they only serve the purpose of encouraging more corruption.

His comments are coming at a time that allegations of corruption against officials of his administration are mounting. The Stella Oduah BMW scandal is still fresh in our memory. With his latest misstatement making national headlines, he reminds us of the fifth presidential media chat of September 29, 2013, where he said that Nigeria’s corruption was merely a perception which is grossly exaggerated.

He has developed a penchant for singing a different tune from realities on ground, same way he has insisted that electricity has improved in spite of citizen reports to the contrary. Deflecting international attention from sleaze is the least expected at a time the country needed a consistent and dogged fight against this monster. The level of corruption in the country demands serious political will to combat, not occasional rhetorical statements like the promise to fight the scourge in his New Year message.
