bushdoc9919: Innovation is good, but all the best innovation in the world without money is nothing but a stillborn. Now let's assume there is someone who has innovative programs and channels like you opined, how will he be able to operate 24/7 in Nigeria where the light is epileptic to say the least, fuel generators constantly, pay exorbitant amount as tax to the govt, pay salaries of his workers, pay for the some of the contents he is airing (football matches, e.t.c) and at the same time charge an amount much lower than DSTV's prices Don't forget that the last statement is really what is at the root of this thread. We are not just looking for someone innovative, we are looking for someone innovative who will charge half of what DSTV is charging while offering comparative contents because by the time the innovative fella adds up the costs and starts charging the same amount as DSTV, it begs the question why I should leave DSTV in the first place. In my humble opinion, it is simply not possible in the Nigeria we are today. 5 Likes |

Dstv is a private company driven by profits and costs. Dstv is in a Oligopoly market, not in a goods market. In Oligopoly...competition is tough..the company that has good strategy, management, good service and quality product will survive. ...and for new companies to enter the market is not simple. It is not a must to have a dstv, if you want to patronize local satellite tv just leave dstv... Where are educated nigerian business people ?? for a country that pride itself as the most educated and resourcefull cant come-up with just one satellite tv company that will give dstv a run for its money, instead of blaming dstv... Quality comes at a price...if you cant afford go local. In SA we have 3 satellite tv compnies, dstv, Toptv( useless) and EtvHD( its free,no subscriptions) and Siyayatv coming next year..no one here or the government is complaning about the pricing. dstv offer the best content... and they are in competition with SABC stations in terms content. I pay R295 for my dstv compact...should I complain NO. that is what I can afford. If I want more I cannot pay R663 for premium,... 6 Likes 1 Share |

GogetterMD:That exactly is what's keeping them ahead. They just monopolise some stations like supersports and makes sure they are the only company who has access or license to show it in Nigeria eg. That was how they chased hitv out of the market. |
