Before you try out anything also try and check up on the internet to substantiate what anyone tells you.. And you also need to get that kid back to the hospital.. See a specialist if possible she shouldn't be using close to that much..

Bin Asthmatic since i was born. In addition to irritants, extreme wether condition triggers mine esp hot. weather. I was always sick as a child infact at a point my parents considered home schoolling .

But these days i barely get attacks. I take medicine only wen i feel an attack coming but inhaler? Dats another story.i'm addicted to the tin, trying to break d addiction now. I use subumol inhaler and ventolin, franol nd prednisone/ predisalone tablets.



Pls what are the withdrawal Symptoms? Sometimes i feel lyk my leg is hanging even when it's placed firmly on the floor. I don't know if that's what they call losing sensation but it started after i took perilon for some days.

please just google for prednisolone. its the active ingredient of perilon tabs. Apart from its nemurous negative side effects. Withdrawal from long term is also problematic. And most users have to taper (reduce dosage gradually) in order to reduce withdrawal symptoms.

I had symptoms of asthma last two years and was placed on duovent inhaler (steroid), before it was confirmed not to be asthma but respiratory infection (inflammation of bronchial walls) treated with antibiotics and got well.

I noticed when I was using d inhaler I added weight tremendously but after it was diagnosed not to be asthma and I stopped using d inhaler, I have been having discomfort in the throat, could it be a side effect of puffing in d duovent Inhaler?

Steroids are immunosuppresants (They suppress your immune system) and that's why they are even effective in asthma because allergies occur when your body treats substances that are not harmful to your body as harmful so they mobilize your body's defense against this unharmful substances causing the classical symptoms of asthma.. In other words the body attacks its own healthy tissues so immunosuppresants like corticosteroids suppress your body's immune system helping your asthma but also predisposing your body to infections and a number of side effects... So taking inhaled steroids will cause immunosuppresion locally in your mouth resulting in over growth of candidas causing oral thrush/ candidiasis. It however resolves in a matter of weeks so its nothing to worry about really.. Yeah a major side effect of using steroids over a long period of time is weight gain although it is much more common with oral therapy.. Some people even use steroids on purpose to add weight..

A pharmacist that was once diagnosed/misdiagnosed with asthma that has taken control of is asthma and is now symptom free.. When I was diagnosed of asthma on a faulty/not-so-perfect basis i took control, augmented school knowledge with research and seminars and got to know all I know..

mhen! asthma is very bad oh. my junior brother is asthmatic. no fried plaintain no fried this no fried that. when he has the attack daddy runs to get ventolin. sometimes he sends me and i'll be like is he the only one. but it is controllable sha if you use the inhaler you will get addicted. when the attack comes you wont know how to control it sometimes people pass out from there. daddy never allowed him to use inhaler. there was a day it got to the peak no medicine and daddy was like just breathe.thnk God he is alive

I'm guessing the blood tests and x-ray was to rule out other conditions(differential diagnosis) that could be wrong with you as their are several conditions that could cause asthma like symptoms.. Get a peak flow meter.. It isn't expensive and ask your pharmacist how to use it..

my ex have it But she is absolutely taking No medications about it and it keep me worrying because den while we were in Skool she is always wanting to stay wit me....and wen d attack comes,gosh I go crazy, Co's nothing I can do But she recover also from it...in fact she has died in my arms one night, it takes d grace of God to bring her back...she just believe Dat it will be OK someday.... missed her though.

I am also asthmatic but I remember a drug a fellow nairalander recommended some years ago which I tried and it has help relieved me from my frequent asthma attacks.

I do av d attack once a while but the drug helped control it, I only stopped cos of its side effects. The name of d drug is BETNELAN

I wasn't diagnosed with asthma till I was 28, then it dawned on me that I'd been alive purely by God's mercy. I remembered the nights I awoke breathless and my mum used all her mummy powers to get me breathing- hot towels, warm beverages, Chinese balm etc....The attacks were rare but severe, probably why I never got looked at by a doctor as a child.
I played basketball thru out high school, played in university and played a lot after uni whilst awaiting nysc, hence my shock at the discovery. Had to get a ventolin inhaler in 2012 though after another rare emergency, my first in more than 30yrs, but I rarely need it.

I was diagnosed years ago and I'm in my mid 30's now. I haven't had a major attack for over 2 years so it came as a surprise wen a month ago I started having severe attacks. I was about crossing into my last trimester. The doctor gave me several intravenous injections bt I only got worse.
He then queried my blood, result came out, I had senior and junior typhoid(high values) , malaria parasite, infections in the blood, low calcium, low blood volume coupled with d stress of pregnancy!!
I was surprised wen I saw the result cause I wasn't really sick as in bed ridden and running a temperature, I just felt fatigued and I attributed it to 3rd trimester o! I was placed on a cocktail of injections and drugs o, special care being taken cos of the baby. I was also given an inhaler, I've attached the pictures. It's been over 3 weeks now and I feel great! So for me the trigger was internal. I haven't had need of the inhaler for about a week now, but I carry it with me just to be safe.

I didn't mean "stuck " literally. I only meant it has become my go to drug for attacks and I recognize the difference between Ventolin and seritide. Having used another preventive drug like bicotide I was trying to point out the effectiveness of the former. About the side effects of steroids, can you highlight any? I've been on this stuff for close to 20years.

Oh.. My bad.. Yeah they are loads.. Weight gain, moon face, muscle wasting, muscle myopathy, adrenal insufficiency due to sudden withdrawal that could cause death, hyperhlycemia, glycosuria and it could precipitate diabetes mellitus in predisposed patients, cushingoid syndrome, immunosupression and susceptibilty to infections, gastric ulcerations, it also affects bone development, oral thrush, mania, activation of tuberculosis in patients under remission and so many more.. Most of the side effects though are due to high doses of steroids over a prolonged period of time.. Nd it is usually with oral steroids so inhaled steroids are relatively safe except for the thrush that can easily be prevented..
