[quote author=prince3009 post=28339408]My mum received a call this morning while lying on her sick bed, it was someone who claimed to be an FRSC official. He claimed that there was someone involved in a ghastly motor accident whom she (my mum) knew and that she should call back...i was already all set for work so i decided to call the number. When i did, the "FRSC" man asked where i was and i told him i was in Abuja. He then said that there was a ghastly motor accident which occurred along the Lokoja/Abuja road and a woman whom we supposedly know was involved.

He said he got my mum's number from the woman's phone and that though she is alive, she is in a very critical condition. According to him, the 3 people sitting down beside her died on the spot and the woman needed urgent medical attention. He further inquired if i knew any Red Cross number and i said no. I told him to simply use the woman's number to call me so that i would be able to ascertain her identity by tallying it with the contacts on my mum's phone or mine so we could know if she was a close relative but he responded by saying that there was no credit in the woman's phone and that he tried the "Call Me Back" method which did not work. He finally broke the camel's back by saying i should send MTN Recharge Card of about N400 to him so he could load the phone and call me back with it. I told him that i would send him just N100 but he insisted it must be N400 or at least N200. That was when it dawned on me. I was so upset cos my mum is a High BP and Diabetic patient which culminated to a stroke months back and was still recovering in my house only for them to spring this up on her. I managed to calm both her and my younger sister down by telling them it was a prank call from a scammer and related my reasons to them.

This is old method now. Early this year I was with a cousin when his phone rang. As he picked the call, he started cursing the person on the line and later hung up. He later explained that the person called him and informed him of an accident using exactly the method you described. He placed call to all his relatives and friend and there was no accident. He still sent recharge of 1000 demanded by the scammer but he failed to call back but rather switched off for 2 days. He called again with the same story probably haven forgotten that my cousin had been treated earlir by him.

Hehehe..my mum had exactly the same experience last two months. Good thing is that we weren't expecting anyone at home..the fake FRSC guy asked for recharge card..and my mum and sisters hurriedly sent me to go buy mtn 200..that was the fastest walk I had ever done in my life..lol..on sending it my mum called back and asked the guy how the woman was doing and all the guy was concerned about was the recharge card we bought saying it wasn't enough. At that point,my mum realized it was scam and started pestering the guy's life with calls..asking him if he had seen the 3k recharge card she sent to him..the guy gave a long hiss, ended the call and didn't pick my mum's call again...the stupid things Nigerians do for money!

Scammer: You won #1,000,000 from our promo

Scammer: You have to send #50,000 to redeem your prize
Me: ok,you sure I won right?
Scammer: Of course, sir ( voice becomes more interesting)
Me: ok,Use #50,000 from the money I won, and send the rest
Scammer: can't hear you
Me: *Repeats myself
Scammer:.....***drops phone

I experienced same about three weeks ago.
A man with a gutteral voice claimed to be calling from FRSC, that he had gotten my number from an accident victim along Lagos Ibadan express way. He said she was in a commercial vehicle and painted a gory picture of dead people and twisted limbs. He requested for an MTN recharge card so he could use the womans phone to call me. Iasked him what name the accident victim used in storing my name he replied Auntie. He became aggressive and told me I was wasting time as the victim was about giving up.
I sent my son to buy 750 MTN recharge card which I sent to him and that was the last I heard from him.
It dawned on me I had been scammed.

A guy called me with a private number teĺling me he is calling from London and ask me to guess who is calling, I told him I dont know and cant guess but he insisted that it is someone I know in London and ask if I dont have anyone in London..I said no..he got frustrated and ended the conversation.

Had it been I mentioned names he would have used it as a starting point to scam me. He just wanted a name and maybe the next he wud say is that he is a friend to that person.

So I am to infer from your statement that being smart translates to defrauding people and possibly killing them prematurely? And furthermore, all other forms of scamming are convenient as long as using of accidents is not done, right?

May God have mercy on your faulty mentality and low moral standards!

This scam na very low-profile one!
Ordinary 400 naira card?
Wetin him wan use am do; na to make call abi na to sell am for N200 because I know say dem no go price am past that amount!
Na wa o! This is poverty and if dem don scam u of only 400 naira, you don't need to cry or complain; take am say u donate that amount to help somebody buy bread and mineral for lunch!

It is a game of quantity.

They are jobless, so obviously they work on the scam all day.

They figure - if they can get maybe 5 gullible people every hour to send them N400

After 10 hours of hard work cheesy - 2k/hr X 10 = 20k

Office hours cheesy : Monday - Friday, 8am - 6pm

Average work week turnover = 100k/ week = 400k+ a month

I know people in Nigeria can sell the balance on their prepaid lines, so when you look at the bigger picture
it is not really about the individual N400. It's how much of it they can aggregate.

That's like saying VISA or MasterCard is a "low-profile" company because they only charge about 2% to merchants
and a $1 swipe of your card only nets them 2 cents.

400*10 people = 4k, *100 = 40k, *1000 = 400k....get the picture?

This one happnd to me on thursday mornin, i jest came out of d ecobank at egbeda(ile-epo alhaji) to make a trabsaction, den i went to d atm to withdraw 20k, but d machine refused to pay me, so i decided to leg down to the first bank along isheri rd. den dis ugly guy(wearing ankara n carryin a skool bag) aproached me, he was asking for direction to oko oloyun dat hez a stranger coming frm ijebu... He was stammering so i culdbt comprehend wat he was trying to say well.. All i knew is dat he was blabbing.. Den i said i dont knw dat he shuld ask someone else dat i only came here to do somfin.. So as i was moving, he was moving wit me, den a guy was moving infront of us (not knowing its his partner in-crime).. He called his attention too and told him d same blabbin he made to me, but d 2nd guy started questionin him agressively dat "wat are yhu looking for dem for, are u a patient or u hav a patient u wanna take there" ?? I was amazed by his reaction towards d poor stranger.. But wetin concern mi, i leav dem two make dem dey drag am, so i borrow leg waka... Den d 1st(stranger walked past me and started moving, den d 2nd guy started moving by me den our chat began.. He said; " it seems dat guy is truly a stranger by his looks, maybe he is a traditional medicine guy looking for an advert company so he can advertise his medicne, and he must have alot of money with him oo, brother dont u think we shuld call him and advice him so e dosent end up in d hands of 419".....
Den i tot within myself... "Isnt dis d guy dat jest answerd dis poor stranger soo agressivly? Why d sudden concern?.. Den i say e no concern mi jare.. Make dem dupe am, dem don dupe me self for computer villesh bfor... So if u like, call him and advice him.. Den i continued my legging... Den dey disapeard.. Den i strted reasoning all d incident, den my metal mind start to tell me say e be like dis guys be scammers, coz i've heard alot of tins like dis, but to clear my doubtS, i turned around n went back usin d other side of d rd dis time..
Wen i got close to d bank, lo n behold, i saw dis 1st guy (stranger at d same spot we met, looking frnt n back at d direction of d bank.. D 2nd guy was opposite d road..i waited patiently for abt 20-30mins to knw whats up... Finally, i saw d 2nd guy signallin to d 1st (stranger) to move quickly to aprehend thier nxt victim, it was a very young boi, around 19 yrs of age i guess... D same process happned.. But dis guy gave dem alot of audience dan i did... He was ready to grant d stranger advice with d 2nd guy(d stage dey failed wit mi), but i was so worried i wuldnt like dem to dupe dis small boi, den i saw two men discussing by d side of d rd, so i narrated evrytin to dem and pointing d guys also, so dis two men calld d young boy to cross over dat dey wanna tell him somfin, immidiately dis guys saw i was wit dem, yhu need to see d Mario B speed dey used to enta d nearest bus...
Pls dis one na true story...

If you are reading this and got a similar call, please share your experience and for those who have not, be wary...IT IS A CHEAP SCAM!

Next time just tell the scammer that you are FRSC officer in the headquarters, that he should identify himself and his unit. He will hang up on you. I have experienced this scamming method more than 5 times.
