My friend, let me lend you my 2 cents! The reason many graduates are jobless is because they keep waiting for the perfect opportunity, yet missing the chance to improve their resume while the search continues. As a fresh graduate you have no experience, no workforce training, you are basically a liability. As an HR manager I would be very reluctant to hire someone without experience when someone with a few years of experience competes for the same job. Try not to look at it from the monetary aspect, I know everybody wants to make money but there are systematic ways of doing things. My first ever job was at a grocery store, it was depressing and unfit for a graduate like me but in the long run it helped me learn valuable skills which propelled me into a wonderful career in another sector. Whenever I hear stories like people searching for a job for 1, 2 or even 3 years I just shake my head, opportunities are there you just have to work towards it.

bros talk true. out of that ya uk menial job wages. mama charlie go take one quarter in taxes. ya council tax go take a huge chunk. ya rent go wipe out the rest. gas and water nko ? if you get tv - ya tv license nko ? you dey drive moto mot and road tax and insurance go mean say you done enter red. abeg no come here come lie to the peoples and dem. e for better make you take that 35k job. at least dey calm body everyday with orijin out of the 35k so ya blood pressure go calm down grin
He didn't lie about earning above #35,000 doing menial jobs. There are a lot of Iranians, Indians, Pakistanis, Afghani, Zimbabweans, South Africans, Gambians, Bangladeshi, Nepalese, Chinese, Namibians, Fijians, Tongans, Samoans, Ghanaians, Eastern Europeans who do care jobs or menial jobs like cleaning, warehouse, sales assistant jobs and have two or three jobs that pay cash-in-hand. They live in shared houses and a room can house 6 occupants. No taxes re paid for cash-in-hand jobs to the best of my knowledge and only the legal renting tenant pas council taxes (in my county, singles council tax is not more than £90. A couple or two occupants could pay £130 or a little more). Who needs a TV set when shared houses comes with lounge TV and the bills are included in the rent?
He was very right when he said he could earn more than that. If the worst comes to worst, he will patch life and save money, then come home and set up his own business...

Why am I not surprised! In a country where labour is cheap and graduates are what you see like flies and mosquitoes, why won't some rag tag company take people for granted!.

These companies are run by rogues who truly want the best hands to slave for them why they rip the fruit of labour they never worked for.

Even in Literature section for see them looking to hire writers where they want to pay one Naira per word! I mean what sort of day light robbery is that!.

This is how little people think of graduates now a days, merely 'a means to an end'.

During my studies, I wasn't paying any bills because I was staying in school hostel and I already paid for that before I got there.

After my graduation, I got a room in a flat with some friends. I was paying 300 pounds per month inclusive of all utility bills + internet for my one room. I never had time to even watch TV because I was always working. All I think about was to make money before going back to Nigeria. The times I had to watch EPL, I had to go use my school library computer to stream online. Other times, I just go out to have fun or stay in my room watching Iroko TV.

Apart from the tax which is already deducted from my pay slip, I virtually pay nothing. I was making really good money. The only negative part is that I was not happy with the kind of jobs because I did not go to school because of that. My consolation was the money. I always get the money to pay for my accommodation working in just a week. The other 3 weeks pay goes straight into my account.
So my guy, 35k naira a month was not an option.
Exactly! Pls tell him that Most shared houses, bedsits, studio apartments and one room come with free Wifi... Even McDonald's has free Wifi. Also hospitals have free Wifi. There re pubs with TV's everywhere and work is enough to keep you from watching TV.

Next time, I beg in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Messiah, don't go to interviews for jobs at such remote locations in Nigeria.
For your safety and security, don't go to anywhere far away from the nearest multinational filling station, police and first generation banks. Please, saving your life is more valuable than getting a job where your life is not safe.

He said he could earn more than that if he were to be in the uk. I read everything! I stand by his words, because he was right. Life here might not be easy, but something must show.
