Hello @uchetobi, please what are the charges for pediatrician? I called the hospital and they told me that it is already included in the hospital fees if your baby is fine and does not require any further attention. Is it true please? Cos the quote they gave me contains one NICS fees like that and it is meant for well baby.

Hello Newmum0615,

From experience as my wife just registered with dr fagohun and has paid, the 20% discount only applies to dr fees and out patient labs, you have to pay a flat $300 fee for circumcision (this is assumed already discounted as circumcision by NICU at the hospital is $583.44 which is discount by 20% minus hospital charges as the hospital see this as a surgical procedure so you may run up to $1000 if you use the hospital for this) as you would see on his self pay estimates letter that the 20% discount comes just before the line item for circumcision.Am curious to hear from @uchetobi to see if its differnt from what I explained here

Also, pediatrician fees are separate o as they are doctors like fagbohun that offer a service, when you register at the hospital i.e oakbend which my wife also just did, you would get a letter advising you to contact and discuss payments with pediatrician, anesthesiologist, pathology and Xray(only required if the is a sort of need) so note you pay pediatrician fees separately
NICS is the organization/body that provide pediatric services to the hospital patients while on admission and the quotes that gave as right said is for well baby and increases if baby is taken to NICU thus at discharge, you would owe NICU ,a bill for the pediatric services rendered(whether your baby required NICU or not)

Tony,

Dear Nairalanders, happy new year.
I am new on the forum but I have gathered lots of essential information from previous postings. Actually, I intend to have my baby in US in Texas precisely and wish to find out affordable/cheap clinics as I do not have health insurance. All cost will be out of pocket. I wish to know the estimated cost of delivery both normal and CS in the most affordable clinics or hospital centers in Texas. Are they christain non-profit making clinics and say public/community health centers which charge reasonable prices?

I have been doing some research online but the cost of delivery in US is scaring ($20,000on average). How many months can I leave for the US with the pregnancy?

Please, can someone share her experience with possible contacts please!

Thanks & Best Regards

Hospital - Houston Methodist Hospital Sugar Land - Normal Vaginal Delivery $2,536 for 48 hours stay. If its Normal C/S I think its $3,500 or so.

Anesthesia (optional for vaginal delivery, but required for C/S) - $1,500

Dr Fee - Dr. Le - Vaginal Delivery $2,500, includes all Ultrasounds, all prenatal visits, and one post natal visit. He accepted all my tests from Nigeria. If you register later, maybe 37 weeks I think they give some discount, I registered at 34 weeks tho.

Total Prepaid is $6,536.

Additional Fees not yet prepaid:

Paediatrician: (Dr. Sung) -She came to see the baby after delivery, and baby will see her in 2 weeks time. I have not paid this though, but total is to come to about $300 or so.

Circumsition
The Doctor also performs circumcision for additional $200, in his clinic. If u do the circumcision at the hospital they will charge about $800.

Pathology

At the hospital when I came in to deliver, they took blood samples from me, I asked them how much it would cost, because they did not tell me before, the nurse said its part of the package. I'm just waiting to see what will come out of this.

Hospital said final statement will be sent to me in about 7 days so I am hopeful that there will be no surprises...
Tnx Dear! This is really comprehensive. Tnx for your time for answering my questions. Take care of yourself n the baby.

Thanks! Meaning I get to pay 2,800 instead of 3,500(1st visit, outpatient labs, delivery fee & ultrasound)?

Wife and I are now in Houston. POE was Dallas and very quick. At first, the officers around did not send my pregnant wife...lol, until I requested she be let to sit somewhere until it was our turn- only then did a lady pass us through an express lane.

CBP: Why are you here?
Me: For vacation and to have a baby
CBP: Why do you wanna have your baby here?
Me: Because we will get better medical care here than what avails in Nigeria
CBP: Any doctors’ correspondence?
Me: Yes- and we show him the emails and bills breakdown
CBP: How much do you have on you?
Me: $10.5k and about $30 equivalent in naira
He takes our fingerprints, scans and stamps us in for 6 months and then on to secondary inspection.

The next CBP asked what the money was for, we replied vacation and childbirth and she gave me a form to fill. Then our boxes were searched; however, the cash wasn't counted.

In all, it took about 45 minutes, then on to Houston via AA.
However, that emirates flight is looooong and the longer Dubai-Dallas legs was filled with not a single free seat; not good for preggies at all- even I couldn't sleep through the two connecting flights.

I had a girl so no circumcision but be careful with that, if you can get a Naija dr or a Jewish dr to do it better so you dint repeat it in Nigeria.

I paid fagbohoun 1920 then 300 additional for first visit and ultrasound

I paid oakbend 2150, I dint make any arrangement with pediatrician or anesthesiologist, pathology . Fagbohoun has already (confirm with him), I showed up at oakbend for the first time when I was in labor and yet already had all my details.

anesthesiologist was 850 pathology can't remember but less than 200 for my baby and me, pediatrician (nic/) was 606, it would have been 380 of my baby dint go to nicu for jaundice

Please note o @Uchetobi detailed breakdown. When I said Dr fees,I meant Dr delivery fees only as you would still pay flat $150 for initial visit and another flat $150 for Ultrasound.
Out patient labs does also enjoy discount but it doesn't seem to be straightforward coz it depends on which test the Dr accepts and request you to do as he may even request you to perform extra blood work than in his advice email based on his need for more info abt you and the babay. My wife paid $565(discounted fee) even though she took No 1-4 of the test that were mentioned would be accepted if done in Naija and some other Naija mums paid around $550 for out patient labs so I would say estimate around that for out patient labs

I won't advice anyone to take emirates or Qatar air to the USA, if they can. The journey is long enough without detouring to the Middle East

Plus coming back it may be stressful for the baby
