Mathematics is crucial according to the army website. The OP is assuming that Buhari has Wasc certificate. The jury is still out.

It was not compulsory when I wrote NDA common entrance examination . Only five credits, like JAMB.

CURRENTLY, in the Nigerian Army, even a common recruit must/should have 5'olevel credits including maths and english or other equivalent professional qualification.

To enter the Nigerian Defence Acamdemy as a regular cadet on merit, you must have 5'olevel credits including maths and english plus 3 other subjects depending on the course you want to study at the NDA.

Back in 1961, I don't think Maths was compulsory to be passed before a candidate is considered to be successful.

That being said, there are many wrongs found on the statement of result presented by Buharis school, and in like manners, the court is the place to trash this out.

APC should just stop encouraging violence because from all indications, Buhari will be disqualified with regards lying under oath.

To me, I think he (GMB) and his accomplices came up with that forged wassce result, just to be free from political critics. Because I dnt think the Nigerian army would conduct such corruption as at den to enable him get enrolled in his military life (that is if maths is compulsory in military school). Either ways, he had better come up with tangible explanations.

His principal's letter that recommnended him shows that a credit in Maths was the requirement then. The letter reads: ...." I consider that he will be able to pass WASC with credits in Maths, English and other three subject...". U can deduce from here that, at least, a credit pass in Maths was compusory.

For your knowledge, NDA was not equivalent to University degree not until recent.
They only needed (I think) about 3 credits to gain admission then, while even polythenic was 4 credits at 2 sittings, reason whyit is difficult to equate University and Polytheistic degrees
Depending on your line of study will dictate your subjects combination for admission. Military values Geography more than Mathematics.

I ask this question because Buhari's result have been released to the public and in the result he had an F9 in Mathematics.

Military Officers are meant to be knowledgeable in quantification of military hardwares and other items. For example, a colonel should know the difference between 4 armoured tanks and 1 fighter jet in terms of weight difference, volume difference, etc. The knowledge of such difference will enable the colonel plan the logistics in the transport of such hardwares from one point to another.

Also mathematical terms such a Bearing, Longitude and Lattitude, Projectiles, Trigonometry, Calculus, Matrices, Lagrange Multiplier, Statistics, etc. are common terminologies used in the military. Someone with an F9 in mathematics will definitely not be able to use such mathematical terminologies with dexterity during military warfare.

So I wonder why someone with an F9 in mathematics should be commissioned into the Military.

Perhaps that isn't Buhari's Result after all. I say this because that result appears to be fake and Buhari hasn't made any statement accepting the result as published by the Principal of his almamater. I hereby call on Buhari to either accept or reject the result as published. If he rejects it, he should do us a favour and show us his certificate (#BuhariShowYourCertificate). But If he accepts it, it means our Military actually enlisted Buhari despite failing Mathematics. If they did, was it the right thing to do?

Im sure entry requirement then and now can never be the same. In 1990s Jamb and many tertiary institution accepts Awaiting Result(AR) but im not sure if it is possible now cos WAEC and NECO is very easy now compare to 1990s that most candidates r likely to combine WAEC and GCE to get compulsory 5 credits requirement.

Back in 70's and 80's,those who worked in the banks like First Bank,Union Bank,Savannah Bank and some old defunct banks and some companies got employed with secondary school certificates. All that has changed now as only tertiary school graduates are employed.
Mathematics might not be compulsory to gain admission in NDA but right now,it is.
