Presidential Debate: APC protecting Buhari’s Intellectual Laziness — PDP by menesheh(m): 12:34pm On Jan 31, 2015
The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation said on Friday that the decision by the All Progressives Congress [APC] not to participate in the presidential debate being organized by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) is simply to shield from Nigerians and the international audience its candidate, Muhammadu Buhari’s intellectual laziness.
It also alleged that it was also meant to hide Mr. Buhari’s inability to constructively engage on contemporary national issues in a live television and radio debate.
The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation had announced Thursday that its candidate would not participate in the debate organised by BON because the organisers are supporters of the PDP.
In a statement by the organisation’s Director of Media and Publicity, Femi Fani-Kayode, the organisation said APC knew that its candidate would flunk it if he was subjected to the rigours of debate on issues of national governance and development.
The PDP campaign organisation said it was aware that the APC had already expressed its concerns when approached by an international news channel for a debate, about the intellectual acumen of Mr.Buhari, and had assured the news channel that it was only comfortable with its vice presidential candidate, Yemi Osinbajo, who has capacity to feature brilliantly on the programme.
“We have just read a report in the media credited to the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation that the party would not allow its candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, to participate in the radio and television presidential debate organized by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON,” the statement said.
“The APC accused the organisers of the debate of unhidden bias and campaign of calumny by some key organisers of the programme against the corporate political interest of the party and its candidates.
“Whilst we will not bother ourselves with the many reasons adduced by the APC, we wish to state that we see the APC’s decision as an attempt to shield its presidential candidate from displaying his intellectual laziness and inability to constructively engage contemporary national issues in a live television and radio debate.”
“We had envisaged that the APC would be reluctant to expose Mr. Buhari to the rigours of a live television debate because the opposition party knows that its candidate will flunk it. If the APC truly believes that it is ‘a party of progressive intellectuals’, as it claims it should allow General Buhari to prove that at the debate.”
The organisation said if the APC failed to participate in the debate, it would also show the disdain both the party and its candidate have for the Nigerian people.
It said the opposition would have denied Nigerians the opportunity to make informed choices on the basis of what each candidate will articulate as propositions on issues that will be raised.
It said, “We are convinced that General Buhari does not have what it takes to sustain a coherent argument on germane issues of governance and development.
“We challenge General Buhari to a debate on any national and international medium of mass communication and our candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, will be ready to participate.
“On the other hand, President Jonathan’s running mate, Vice President Namadi Sambo, is also ready to participate in the debate and any other debate.
“Our presidential candidate and his running mate will not raise flimsy and escapist excuses such as “unhidden bias” and the like, since we believe that they are well-rounded intellectuals who have been prepared by their experience in office to answer any question under the sun on the governance of our nation.”
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of the United Progressives Party, UPP, Chekwas Okorie, has pleaded with Mr. Buhari to reconsider his decision not to attend the debate.
“The news that the APC presidential candidate, General Buhari, will not participate in the scheduled debates is a great disappointment,” Mr. Okorie said in a statement Friday.
The UPP flag-bearer said he was looking forward to the debate because “the match-up was consistent with independent poling around the country that identified President Jonathan’s PDP, General Buhari’s APC, and Chief Okorie’s UPP as the three most serious contenders in the highly anticipated general elections to choose Nigeria’s next president for a four-year term.”
He therefore said he did not find the rationale given by the APC for withdrawing from the debates convincing.

Mr Okorie added, “My Vice Presidential candidate, Barrister Bello Umar (SAN) and I are ready for the debates. I urge my compatriot, General Buhari, to reject his advisors’ voices and show up for the debates. That is what the nation and the international community expect of him.”

Laziness at its highest level

Obj foresaw the changing sphere of the modern society in future Nigeria to compare what is obtainable in their time then decided to go back to school to upgrade his cert and knowledge in order to adjust to the changes to come as of today.

But our dear general kept to his comfort zone and wanted to perform magic, where will the change come from.

I think for APC to return to the part of intergrity, they should just do the needful by allowing GMB attend the debate. They should not pile up mediocrity after the Certificate saga which put their candidate in bad stand.
For posterity, and good governance the debate should go on.

What a life

PDP is pleading for a debate like a bankrupt championship boxer, all in an effort to collect a part of the purse.

APC should deny them a chance of collecting an appearance fee.

There is nothing more to hear from them.

Their last card has been played..... the AIT misadventure... odium for PDP and thrn the AIT poll returned adverse results.

MUCH ADO ABOUT PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE!

Presidential Debate will not produce our missing N20b, debate will not handover Meina to the police, debate will not stop insurgence, debate will not stop corruption, it will not stop the senseless killings in the nation, debate would not restore a much compromised and corrupt military, debate cannot fund the EFCC and the ICPC. How much answer does it have to oil subsidy fraud? How does it address the failed state of the Nigerian education system? Is the debate going to invalidate the chieftaincy titles conferred on people whose major achievement was looting and pillaging our common wealth, and walking through our streets like colossus?

If GEJ needs debate, let him go back to the school. Let him consider this topic: PDP has been a plague to Nigeria!

A podium should be made available for Buhari. It is up to him to show up or not

What image wud dis project Nigeria 2 de outside world?

My candid advice 2 APC is dat der shd allow dis man 2 go n try is best. Atleast defend his integrity particularly the certificate saga.

Any offer should be scrutinized and confirmed that the body organizing it (local or foreign) is reputable. Would the PDP accept an invitation from many of the media that are labelled APC-friendly?

As clueless and slowpoke as I am, I know that boycoting a debate is not good for a high profile person, filled with intergrity and epic cluefullness like GMB.
Things are rapidly changing you know. Gone are the times when certificates mean nothing to contestants, now, they are important. People have started asking questions. So it is with political debates too. It will come to a point in our history when ordinary village youth elections will be highly credible involving document scrutiny and high intellectual debate.

We owe it to GEJ

GMB has debated before and he will do it again but not in a debate organised by both Omole of NTA and Dokpesi of AIT. Can Jonathan also present himself in a debate organised by saharareporters, preniumtimes, Thenation and their likes. Stop being hyprocritical and think straight please

Dont be deceive. Things could be changing but we are yet to get to that stage where debates swing votes in Nigeria. Vast majority of would be voters have already made up their mind and no amount of propaganda can change it.
This so called debate wont determine who will eventually get the peoples nod.

We owe it to GEJ

The same way we owe it to Jonathan for bringing facebook to Nigeria.

JANUARY 20, 2015 BY NAN
The Nigeria Elections Debate Group on Monday in Abuja said the 2015 presidential debates would hold between January 28 and February 5.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NEDG, Mr Sola Omole, disclosed this to newsmen after a meeting of the board, hosted by the former Chairman of Daar Communications Plc, Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

Omole said that the Directors-General of the Presidential Campaign Organisations of the 14 participating political parties would open the floor on January 28.

A debate planned and organised by Omole of NTA inside Dokpesi bedroom can never be fair.
Dokpesi the debtor (a well-known Jonathan cocck sucker) will surely leak the questions to Jonathan.
Apc made the right call.
