Chadian aircraft on Saturday bombed the Nigerian town of Gamboru in a raid targeting Islamist extremist group Boko Haram, security sources said.

A raid was carried out around midday by two fighter jets on the town in Nigeria’s far northeast along the Cameroon border, sources from Chad and Cameroon said on condition of anonymity.

Boko Haram overran the town several months ago as part of its campaign to seize territory in the region and create an Islamic state.

The Boko Haram uprising has become a regional crisis, with the four directly affected countries — Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria — agreeing to boost cooperation to contain the threat.

Nigeria’s military said on Thursday that its fighter jets had bombed the northeast town of Malam Fatori, also controlled by Boko Haram.

Witnesses and some media reports said troops and airforce planes from Chad were also involved in that operation on Nigerian soil but Abuja neither confirmed nor denied the claim.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday gave his backing to an African Union proposal to set up a regional five-nation force of 7,500 troops to fight Boko Haram.

I think it's illegal. They are supposed to consult nigerian authority.

I don't blame them. These militants attack their country then come to hide in this town. If Chad attacks them inside Nigeria and distabilizes them, atleast they'll stop killing innocent civilians.

Is patently illegal and in saner climes with a president that knows his left from his right, enough to spark a diplomatic crisis with even the risk of military confrontation.
How dare u invade another country's airspace talkless of carrying out military operations in it.But a situation where u have a president that is as clueless as his face, its going to go down without even a whimper from the Nigerian govt.
He has so neglected Nigerian military in preference to touts like asari and tompolo that even ordinary chad that should be seeking military and financial assistance from us has turned us to a laughing stock.

In the absence of information from the Nigeria military the following is what i think could be happening. Nigeria military hirachy aware of a larger more powerful threat posed by the West, specifically France and America, are intimidated and have chosen to save face by cowering behind the Multinational Joint Task Force mandate. In reality, the mandate has effectively been hijacked by France using Chad as a proxy. Chad, if she chooses to honor the Multinational Joint Task Force mandate, will do so in the loosest possible manner, like a swaggering bully that has his cowardly back covered by bigger thug brothers. As thy bomb and fight on our lands wherever mandated and where not, our military can only smile and pretend they're in agreement, it's all part of the plan.

The Nigeria Military shouldn't be ashamed however for they have fought well constrained as they are by equipment and lack of foresight by those that ruled Nigeria before. Those for me that have lost all respect and creditability are the Americans. The praises Americans heap on Chad, if you read some of their comments on sites like Yahoo answers or CNN, informs that Americans does not give a hoot about Democracy, which they pretend to want to spread in the world- Human rights being part n parcel of that philosophy. France has always been a sinister force in Africa and French west Africans have always been slavish coons and proud of it.

Soon, their fighter jets would fly above abuja in their search for boko haram. We can as well scrap the Nigerian army since they are now useless.

i don't care who does the bombing, anything that will work to end Boko Haram is okay by me. If Nigerian military cannot do the job then we should not be too proud to ask anybody for help including Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Ghana too.
If they can help us to defeat Boko Haram we will always be grateful to them for that.

The most annoying part is that some guys here are even hailing Chadian forces for this illegal operation.

Why won't we hail Chad? In one week they have achieved more than the Nigerian military has done in five years. If Jonathan returns Nigeria will probably have no military again within the next four years.

Nawa o. Everyone concerned in the Nigerian military should just cover their faces in shame. Unfortunately, they know no shame. Worse still, they have apologists who refuse to see that something wrong somewhere.

By the way, for where we come be giant of Africa now? I pray our lost glory is restored from wherever it was missing

In as Much as I am not in agreement of chad "invading" our nation but anything that ends BH i will support it.
But why is the unity force taking so long. And when will we get the support of over 7000 AU forces to combat BH.

AU proposes 7,500-strong force to fight Boko Haram
