Soyedele1:Bros na so. Even though there economy isnt that impressive, this country is years ahead of Nigeria in all ramifications. They give you everything you need to succeed. Unfortunately, there standard is too high for African students, especially for Engineering students. If you are coming for Engineering course i will advice you to choose a University but if it is the Polytechnic that has your course, i can provide you some materials to have a head start before you come here to listen to the head cracking mathematics. It hard but not impossible. |

Hi Guys, I am new to this forum but I was hoping you guys can help me out. I got admission to a school in Florence for April 2015. I applied for my visa in January 30th 2015. The documents I took with me were passport, form , letter of sponsorship from my dad, his bank statement, hotel booking, documents from school, birth certificate, copy of my dads visa page, copy of my former schengen visas, copy of my undergrad certificate and transcript and two passport pictures. I went to the consulate on the 30th and I was able to submit and I was told to come on pick up my passport in exactly a week which was the 4th of February. I got the visa which was for a year although I applied for nine months. Now this is my question, I am reading all this stuff here about legalisation and getting things stamped. I am worried because I did none of this. I hope this won't cause an issue later on? Thanks in advance for your help! |

Re: Italian Student Visa-help! by superior1: 11:37am On Feb 17, 2015 |
Mofe22:I did not either, although you will have to do legalization in the nearest future as your school will need it but it doesnt stop your travelling, enrollment or permit of stay. |
Re: Italian Student Visa-help! by newacca: 12:17pm On Feb 17, 2015 |
Mofe22:I thought as much. My wife also studied there, though foundation. If you are going for degree, you may still need it. I'm not sure, that's why I used a bold 'may'. |

Thanks for all the responses so far! Im sure this question has been answered over and over again. But can someone please explain to me what exactly legalisation is? And the process of doing this? Also why is it necessary? Thanks so much! |

Mofe22: That is a very simple question, go back to the first page of this thread and start reading, you wont have to read half before this and further questions you are likely to have are fully treated. 1 Like |

Mofe22:Just a brief rundown of Legalization. It is a way of checking if your Nigerian Certificate is genuine and equivalent to that of Italy. It carries a stamp from the Consulate in Nigeria to show that it has been verified and belongs to the said person. I hope you get an idea of what that means by now. Ciao |

Pelumiv: Thanks for the explanation! My certificate is not from a nigerian institution. I studied my undergraduate degree in the UK. Does this make a difference? |

Mofe22:In your case i don't know if you will need legalization. You already have your Visa right? I dont think you need to bother yourself with that. Just try learn a bit of Italian before you come here. chidexxy007:Chidex, when you are serious, you know where to find me. |
Re: Italian Student Visa-help! by newacca: 12:49pm On Feb 18, 2015 |
@Pelumvic and others, Do you have idea of where one can learn Italian in Lagos? Though, I'm currently using an app to learn basic skill. |
Re: Italian Student Visa-help! by DanIndia(m): 5:12am On Feb 19, 2015 |
Yes, since your degree is from the UK, You'd not need to do the legalization with the Italian Embassy in Nigeria and that's another reason your visa was handed out with no sweat. Your case is far easy as you'll only have to get an Apostille from the British Embassy since the UK is part of the Hague Convention. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostille_Convention). The only reason why people do legalisation in Nigeria is because Nigeria is not part of the Hague Convention hence they have to hire private lawyers to do the verification and that's why the exorbitant amount is associated with the application. This could even be done on your behalf, you could send your degree certificate to the UK and have it attested first by the State Board of Education wherever you studied, and then to the Ministry of External Affairs there in the UK. Once you're done with this, that's all aout it but keep in mind for a DOV, you'll have to translate this attested document to Italian. You won't need the DOV today, nor for Visa Application nor Enrollment but as long as you're in Italy, you'll definitely need it one day. I'll advise you to actually get on with it right away. Don't worry, you have no legalisation to worry about. Just go to the British Embassy, they'll do all this for you. Source: I have an international degree certificate and this is the process I've been told, at the embassy. Best of Luck. Mofe22: 1 Like |

@newacca, I think this App would actually do you much good than learning from an Institute. But you'll have to spend loads of time on youtube and self study. newacca: |
