Glamrock....as you have seen, NL can be a very negative place.

Please checkout skyscrapercity.com

There is a Nigerian secton where you can get positive news/coverage about Nigeria tht is actually uplifting rather than an assault....lol

It will keep you excited about Nigeria and prospects.

I must say I envy your courage op. Inasmuch as Nigeria is not a bed of roses, life in general isn't.
But think critically as this is a very big leap of faith you are about to take; many Nigerians go abroad and despite facing all the factors you listed (and maybe worse in some cases), do not want to return. However, seeing that you already have a plan, I wish you the very best of luck.
Anyway follow your heart and have a successful African integration...

I started out with 15kva turnkey system and gradually upgraded to 20kva then 30kva. It sounds industrial to him because of his level in life. For me, my drive is to, totally stay off the national grid in my lifetime, and I am constantly researching on latest solar and battery technologies. Alternatively, most serviced estates generate energy and connect to homes 24/7 with customized metering system. One doesnt have to worry about the sources of energy, all you know is that there is electricity at your home 24/7, your business is to fund your smart card.

lonnng hisss.

oya, tell us the make and cost of the system in your place, and the contractor who installed it. what make is the 30kva inverter, what voltage and what make are the batteries, and what is the load in your 3 storey mansipn?

lets see what your level, or perhaps the level of your oga is.

Welcome home anytime.

My candid advise:

1. If you have some reasonable cash just come and invest in Nigeria, there are investment opportunities here. With this you won't ever regret your decision.

2. Whatever have advantages also have disadvantages, I don't and will never leave Nigeria to reside permanently anywhere in this world, I can visit and come back again, my country is highly rich. It's only lazy people that complain.

An adage says: whatever did not kill you will make you strong.

Your choice of coming home is nice, come and invest, you can always shuttle the two countries anytime you wish, no law stops you.

Get a nice location to reside e.g Lagos, portharcourt, Abuja, calabar, enugu, imo. And you will get all necessary things needed to live in Nigeria like generating set, good suv car etc. Then you're good to go.

One of the first things you will notice is that Nigerians speak their minds. You will have to develop a very thick skin around Nigerians. Go ahead, say what's on your mind. You might as well practice with us online.

You're an unrepentant liar! An architect designed a 3-storey building for you with internal staircase?
Yes, I'm mentally poor, but you, my friend is an uneducated liar!

I double dare you now, post the address of your 3-storey internal stairased building and I will devout my time to check it out. I will start a thread to apologize for my 'poor and wretched views' when confirmed. You can take an easier option of posting the pix of your 3x2 = 6 staircase here.

I am waiting Mr Billionaire.
Sorry, I cant post my address, and I have nothing to proof to you. You are inconsequential to me.

That is not true reflection of Nigeria, going to a place to read only positive things about Nigeria will not help her course.

nairaland mirrored the actual Nigeria she will experience by the time she visits.

@Glamrock great that you want to embark on this journey, you will learn a lot from the experience. People here have given you some raw materials...both the negative and positive ones are valuable because that is what you will experience when you finally get to Nigeria.

@ OP, U hv to explain the points u put up there. Sadly, frm the comments so far, it's obvious most pple didn't get u correctly. Nevertheless, Nigeria is a good choice. Being an american-born only is enough tn give u wht u wnt here. Jst be good at wht u can do, nd ur ability to learn the local language(s) will be an advantage. Find a responsible guy and marry, nd be part of a family nd community. Honestly, the major problem in nigeria is religious intolerance, especially in the north. For crimes and criminals. America had got much more. *cheers*

this is how we seperate the fluff from the real deal. all these small boys running around on the internet telling technically unfeasible whoppers.

the best this noisemaker can be is the driver/ houseboy to some big man. it shows in the paucity of his thinking and the empty braggadacio over living costs that anyone would be bothered by

Stop lying to the girl, she better go to Ghana or South Africa if she wants to live a decent life. Heck even the Caribbean beautiful place easy jobs decent infrastructure. Nigeria is an all round bad idea some of us wish we had no links to the place self.

There is absolutely nothing positive about it, being a foreigner you'll be taken advantage of at every turn. Someone suggested you find someone to marry, I laugh whoever that is will see you as a lottery ticket! You better not fool yourself, who intentionally attempts to dine with the devil?

Dog wey wan lost no de hear im master whistle. The posters rooting for you to come back don't really like you. Misery likes company. Just this week alone, 3 armed men raked havoc on the streets of lagos weilding automatic rifles for a good twenty minutes. TWENTY MINUTES. No police, no security agents. Nothing. The taste of the pudding is in the eating. Just go and see for yourself. You could be raped, beaten to a pulp and no one will help you. You obviously know the in and outs of NL. Scan through. there is a page, with pictures, about a woman whose breast was cut off for supposedly stealing something. Can you imagine that? No due process, just jungle justice. The reason these posters don't mention things like that is because Nigerians are used to gore and violence. Nothing shocks them anymore. The status quo is absolutely normal. A Nigerian could be taking an evening stroll and see a dead corpse in the middle of the road, and he/she would just pass by as if nothing was there. And this is the social norm you want to live in. I wish you good luck.

How can it be a hyperbole if it is true. Did a woman's breast got cut off this week? Did three armed men hold lagos island to ransom for twenty minutes? Like i said, the reason you don't think it is a big deal is because you are used to the gore and violence. And that is absolutely not normal.

Forgive my english, but things WORSTER than these aforementioned you put up there happen in the U.S and other Western countries in a daily!! You are just blinded by the negative news you must have been reading or hearing about Nigeria lately. Truth is, GOOD THINGS DO HAPPEN HERE TOO!

You just don't come up with bullcrap about a nation and ignore it's positive sides.

I can tell you for a fact that nothing "worster" than what I have described happen in the US. people don't just show up in public with rifles in broad daylight without the police showing up in 5 minutes. And the citizenry don't go about cutting people's breast off for stealing, while onlookers clap and jump for joy. Are you ok? There is nothing positive to say about a country that has no value for human life. To make it worse, people like you think it Is normal. MADNESS.

I never said it was Normal. I just wanted you to atleast point out some positive things about Nigeria amidst the negative ones you posted just to make it fair. But from what you've been saying lately, I don't think you think there's anything positive about Nigeria, Hence the REAL MADNESS!

And you still fail to understand that to saner people in enlightened societies, those points i have mentioned, nullifies what ever positives Nigeria has. "oh, the country has an abundance of natural resource, the weather is relatively stable, there is great opportunity for agriculture, but you have no security and armed men can break into your house at night, rape your wife and daughters, steal all you have and possibly kill you. The police will not come until the armed men are gone and probably ask for money for fuel before they do. why don't you come and live here," you'll like it" NO THANKS.
