But a thought just came to mind; wat if all these compulsory retirement of these security chiefs is to pave way for what might transpire btw now and May 29.

You know when a politician takes a step or makes a decision in this complicated polity of us...one needs to sieve it thoroughly to make sure it is void of any conspiracy.

But I perish that thought in Jesus Name.

How do they make this people general? Nigerian hasn't won single war, how come you become a general without victory or war-tested?
I WILL RATHER PROMOTE BIAFRA/MASSOB OLD FIGHTERS THAN SOLDIERS THAT LOST TERRITORY BIGGER THAN HOLLAND TO CIVILIANS.

Biafran soldiers lost quite a lot of territory.....especially by 1968.....when they lost all their ports, cross river and akwa ibom and even lost the whole Middle Belt region to boot.

Nigerian Army's problem with Boko is that Boko does not fight war conventionally....which is why I have continuously advocated that we have an improved special forces/unconventional warfare capability.(Some effort is being made in this regard).

these are not recent Cases of retirement..the pulling out ceremony of Retired Generals always come up months or even years after one has retired. Nigerians need more enlightenment on issues like this.

there was no reason for the forced retirement... or have they spent the required number of years in service.

Unlike their civilian counterparts in the civil service...who are likely to stay over by manipulating their records and ages, in the military.....the thin officer corps get paid to manage the large body of troops under their command.....
Upon attainment of the mandatory 35 years, these gentlemen know they are due to go....and only in exceptional circumstances do they stay a day longer than necessary.......
To gullible civilians, ignorant in the ways and noble traditions of the military....they will keep on speculating in their gory state of idleness.....
Bravo....to these army top brass for brazzing it past the tapes unlike some of their contemporaries.......
I will still urge my fellow country to take a far more interest in the workings and dynamics of the agencies of the Nigerian government.... 85% of the comments are indeed really off the cuff and they indeed show the dearth of knowledge on the issue the subject matter of discuss on a leading global forum such as nairaland.

Why hiring and firing when you have fews to go?

GEJ trying to creat problems for the in coming government. I don't see how this man will escape jail.
This will not stop us from investigating the role of the NA top brass in the mess in the NE and how they spent trillions doing nothing.

Head or tail, whoever Buhari picks to replace the top brass bears the outgoing President's loyalty.

It's difficult to place the rationale behind this massive retirement. My theory would be that it is a fallout of the meeting btw GMB n GEJ recently.

Apparently, the top brass of the military was always bound to be sacked by GMB for their alleged partisanship during the certificate saga. GMB has probably negotiated with GEJ for him to wield the hammer instead, so the General won't appear vindictive if he is to do it.

Extend the same hand to your media dogs.......reuben agbaosi, fani werepe and Doyin okugbe.... cool

Why must everything be abt GEJ? Wen u join d military u serve for 35yrs den go on retirement. Sometimes pple retire b4 dat cos of mandatory retirement age cos some joined at 35. So u tink all these Generals offended GEL. A hasty conclusion is a veritable tool for error.

I don't know o, remember how he was among those rubbishing the army, maybe they retired or resign instead of working under him

Obviously GEJ is angry, and will not go down alone ,he will bring down as many people with him as he can, but one thing I have seen in this past few weeks is that, he could really be bold,if he wants to.

should have applied same boldness in governance all the while, corruption n insecurity would have been dealt a dirty blow.
I really doubt his boldness, d only principle is that when u r pushed to d wall, no matter aw weak u are, u gat no choice Dan to face back

Not showing courage when he needed to be decisive was GEJ's undoing! He was afraid of not offending too many interest groups: hence, he acted late when he should have acted sooner.

In any case, too many generals are retiring in one fell swoop. Just too many, I'm afraid!

Atleast, they can all retire with full benefits. Think of it: why just NA, why not NAF & NN too.

It's because you don't know what's going on inside the Army, I can categorically tell you that there are over 70 Major Generals in the NA before this retirement. What is more worrisome is that in some units you have 3 Major Generals reporting to each other, Generals doing the work of Colonel and lower ranks all because they still want to be in the force. The implication is that it is costly to maintain redundant officers and of course that rank are political. Dont be surprised that more will go either now or in the nearest future.

My thoughts Exactly! Me thinks he was jst trying 2 mind sensibilities 4 dem not 2 prevent his election. He wld really hav shown a new side of him had he been electd. He wd hav really effected d change we were seeking n rightd our perceivd wrongs. All he was waiting 4 was getting power first. They all knew this n its why they playd against him.
I Hope GMB wnt spend his first 4 yrs trying 2 reward his supporters at our collective detriment like GEJ did bt I dnt expect anything different. so long as d guys are credible n not as old as he is.
