Seeing this just made me remember the drug mule caught at the airport; he said he did it to pay bride price for his wedding. 2 Likes 1 Share |

That is just a rubbish talk, any man wanting to get married should be financially stable. The yorubas will not erode igbo culture and values under the pretence of one Nigeria. I bet if we carry out some investigation u will find that no such comments were made. Why must a yoruba owned news paper be the one to report the heavily tribalist story line? Note Yoruba men getting happy over nothing on the front page. Why are igbo men not complaining or commenting on the front page about their marriage rite? Soon they will ask the Bride parents to foot the bill of the marriage as it is yoruba culture. Desperados igbo bride price have been around since forever and is not going anywhere. It is here to stay. 3 Likes |

willibounce1: They are ashawo yet u leave your south west free women to offer your life savings and beg like a slave to marry one? Let me ask u a question, have u ever seen igbo men conduct themselves in that manner? U are all very sick and perverted idiots and we really shouldn't be sharing a country, if not for Luggard. Just see how ur Yoruba brothers are being indiscreet on the first page, obviously we know this is another one of your yoruba gimmick. Stay away from our culture, that one will certainly lead to war. 5 Likes 1 Share |

please dont reduce it, you can equally increase it by 50 percent more than what it used to be, Menopause and bear bear go full their jaw, have you done a survey recently to see how many 35 years and above single igbo ladies are roaming the streets with bears on their chest and jaw? I urge you to find out, learn culture and marriage rights from the Yorubas, they dont collect bride price, they return it and let you know that their daughters are not sold rather they are giving her to you to take very good care of her. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Go and marry your yoruba women and let your wife parents foot the bill as it is your yoruba culture. Afterall, una mama parents paid bride price to your father parents. Anyhow, they are our women and we love them as they are, go and face your own women and stop disgracing yourself, i don dey feel shame for una. 4 Likes |

It's so unfortunate that there are so many ill informed individuals on Nairaland who draw conclusions from speculations. Every ethnic group has their pros and cons. The major reason for delayed marriages in Igboland is not because of money or assumed heavy bride price. It is because the Igbo culture values the marriage institution more than the action hence the longevity of their marriages. Yorubas prefer the action (wedding ceremony and show off) than the institution hence the high rate of multiple marriages in the South West of Nigeria. Igbo men wants to be responsible for their family hence the quest for financial stability before marriage, Yorubas like the Zulus, do not see anything wrong in a lady carrying the financial burden of the home. As for those calling Igbo ladies prostitutes, they are just lying to themselves because prostitution knows no Language. I think I have sounded sane enough, now let me sound like a Nairalander to those who will refuse to be educated. Yoruba boys will soon carry placards in protest of high bride price in Igboland so they can marry igbo ladies and be rest assured that their wives will hardly cheat on them. Bottom line is, we need to learn more about each other and love one another. #OneNigeria Lafia! 2 Likes |

Take note the love we have for them are also the same we have for each other as the igbo family. Brother and Sister. We are too proud to come out and exchange word over any other group of women but our girls, like we will back our brothers up too. That is wat it takes to share a bond. If na yoruba get this thread me I no go comment sef becos i no get interest or care. Yoruba men want to start dieing mysterious death, keep stepping on our toes and one day it will all go down and explosive. 4 Likes |

Everyday on the streets of our beloved country Nigeria, we see so many beautiful ladies ageing helplessly, thousands of them still pounding yam in their father's house every evening at age 34, many still dancing to Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' and watching Telemundo in their father's parlour till they attain menopause. We see all of them! Crying, spending day and night in the church, fasting and praying desperately for a stinkingly rich suitor to come their way. Sad! All because of a tradition? Sad indeed! The fathers get angry that no real man is seeking their daughters hand in marriage, the mothers receive all blames for not teaching their daughters how to attract rich suitors. The kinsmen in turn become more and more impatient and can't wait to share the money. So in all of this, who really has the last laugh? Who is the unhappy one here? A wise man once said 'At the end of the day, once we've had every suitor turned down and driven away, only then would we realise that we can't WED money' 3 Likes |
