Highest scale is about 500,000 Naira a month. Not too bad for a professor to survive with in Nigeria. But in the Western world, that's too poor. 1 Like |

soe:In UK earning over £30000 means 20% income tax. You will also pay council tax. What of rent? You may pay a monthly rent that is almost rubbing shoulders with the average annual rent in Nigeria. As at 2010 a litre of petrol in UK went for £1.05(do the math). In the end what you will have left will make you want to cry. Its not always so beautiful on the other side. 4 Likes |

Following your analysis, you mean a Prof earn N6m/yr? i.e. N500,000/month. Well this salary structure may be true for Lecturers in Private Unis and some states universities. I believe in facts, and I can authoritatively assert that Professors in Delta State University, Abraka earn btw N800,000 - N1,000,000 monthly. I'm speaking based on facts. Mind you, most of these lecturers earn other figures from (I.T supervision, project supervision, visitations, postgraduate/part-time/sandwich, etc). One of my lecturers back then was paid N60,000 for supervising 3 I.T students in the same metropolis. Do you even know the cost of supervising a PhD student? Rumour also posits that Delta State University Lecturers are the highest paid in Nigeria. So next time you're posting figures, endeavour to indicate your source. In addition, all Profs in the school are entitled to at least one official car, a driver, a well furnished house with BQ & other perquisites. All Lecturers do not earn same figures. Some Profs do not earn close to N500k/month, while some earn above N800k. |

soe: When you pay tax, remove house rent, utility bills and co in the UK, the difference is not significant especially when you consider other bonuses naija lecturers get. |

BlackBaron: Gud point. There is nothing attractive about that pay scale above. A lecturer II takes homes btw N125k-N150k a month. And that is, you have a masters degree already, with a PhD in view. 1 Like |

soe:stupid compararism . What is the cost of living in the UK and Nigeria. For example whiile you pay rent or mortgage of £1300 every month for a 3 bed house in the UK, that is even more than one year rent in ife or ibadan |

Acidosis: There is no public University in this country where every professor is entitled to an official car. Guy pls get yor facts right. 2ndly, even if you have been a professor for 15yrs,there is no way your take home per month can hit N800k,.....except of course you have a clinical degree like MBBS which entitles you to call duty allowance, hazard allowance and several others. A university VC earns btw N1.4-N1.8 million per month...... 3 Likes |
